  • Hearing Coach Schlarman will be visiting Logan Cart today at Owensboro Catholic. Apparently Schlarman has been given the freedom to hand pick 2 more OL prospects and the staff likes Cart at the Center position. Thoughts?

  • Sounds good! Our best 3 centers of the past 10 years played Dline at somepoint here. They are: Nick Seitze (recruited as a DT), Matt Smith (played DT his first 2 weeks during August camp), and Eric Scott (moved from TE to DE as a Sophomore). And yes, I would rate them better than Matt McCutchen and Jorge Gonzalez.

    I like the thought of putting a mean, nasty, 6'4" 300lb 18yr old former DT at C. It's a critical position where we need quality 2-deep now and in the future. I wonder if we'll have enough rides and/or if it's a Peterson doesn't fill that spot first.

    There's a lot more to playing center in Brown's offense than being big and nasty. The center makes the calls for the protection in this offense, not exactly an easy task for a newbie to the position. Interesting nonetheless.

    Really? Didn't know that, lol. (sarcasm off) I either worded my post poorly or you interpreted it differently than I intended. I'm not thinking Cart's gonna come in and be our starting C this Fall. Naturally, we're talking future and depth. Like to redshirt all big uglies every year, and as you alluded, you can raise that to the 2nd power for the Center position.

    That being said, I'm assuming that the staff, especially if they offer, believes he must have the aptitude/intangibles to learn to make the calls to project out as an SEC caliber C in the Brown offense. So now that that is assumed or a given, as I mentioned, I like idea of a guy who has a nasty/mean streak in him at C. Don't you?

    I am not certain if he has taken snaps at the C position but he did split time on the O-line this year. From what I understand he has been working on shotgun snaps.

    RV, I've been thinking this all along. I believe with all the JC DT offers out that there could be a couple of position changes for our young defensive linemen.

  • I think most of the Dline stays that way we have depth at the position just not much experience. lol

    Centers probably need to be more intelligent then QBs, I know this, in front of every Great QB, is a GREAT center. Ask Dermontti Dawson?

  • All good offensive lines have centers who can hold their own one on one. Most good Centers are under 6'4 for a reason, good ones must anchor really well and have crazy strong hips to absorb 330# NG's and blitzes at a moments notice.

    Cart has all the tools, his strength levels are equal to or greater than most top centers, he also has solid athleticism. He'll be ready once his number is called.
