I'd be fine with new uniforms but we have a lot of options as it is now with the uniforms. Let the players wear what they like and excites the recruits. Forget trying to placate to the old timers who want nothing but traditional unis. It's not abou them!

Hey Cobby, a lot of those "old timers" are the big $$ boosters. Don't be so quick to dis them/us. Love your passion & enthusiasm!!

If somebody gives $ based on what a uniform looks like then they aren't a fan/booster...

Please, just get rid of the all-blue smurf look.

Agree, I don't like the all-blue look. Never have. I do like the blue pants/white jersey combo.

If my memory serves me correctly I thought i saw on some of the recruits twitter accounts that they had been shown or told about new GRAY uniforms.

I hope not. Our colors are BLUE and WHITE.

Better get used to it. Stoops will wear what the kids want to wear.

Gray, black, matte gray/black/blue, it's all good to me. Of course, basic royal blue w/white in any combination is all good too! Some of that NASA silver/blue is all good too(like the helmets that Rutgers & Georgia & Oregon have worn!)is fine with me. JMHO, but I think we need to "jazz up" the brand just a bit to draw more attention to the Kentucky name brand.
Anything that can be done to bring us attention with possible recruits should be done. Without delay, and with as much vigor as possible.

Look, I am as about as much of a 'traditionalist' as you will find anywhere. But sometimes change is a good thing. And we ain't Alabama, so all of that goes out the window with the bare-bones basic uniforms because the only real football tradition Kentucky has had up to this point has been finding various & assorted ways of losing to everyone else in the SEC. We have a new Coach & staff, we have a very good class of new recruits coming in, and we have a promise of new & real commitment from the University for the first time in many, many, many moons. So with these changes happening, let's let the genie out of the bottle for a while and see where all of this change takes us. What's it going to hurt?
Let's change some stuff up, alter the appearance of the team just a bit, and most importantly, let's win some damn football games in the SEC for a change!
I'm all in! Let's rock the house and make the college football world see us in a positive way for a change!

  • These "uniform" threads always amaze me. We have a weird segment of our fan-base that is so bizarrely obsessed with uniforms. I can't figure it out.

Its not just UK fans. You can go to message boards for nearly every college and pro team and you will see the subject of new uniforms typically gets people excited or at least willing to engage in discussion. The exceptions are teams whose tradition includes their uniforms, i.e. Bama, TX, ND, Red Sox, Yankees, etc. This subject is FAR from being unique to UK fans.

  • I think with Mark Stoops coming in and starting a new era and doing a ton of things different and having the recruits buy into a new attitude towards UK and having them call this the New UK and Stoops not looking into the past of UK, it makes too much sense to go with new uniforms to cap off that this is a new era. For that reason I think we will see new uniforms or atleast we should see new uniforms....

Like Matt said UK has spend a lot of money on branding to make the interlock "UK" a recongnizable sign for the University so with that said the UK isn't going anywhere. But what I would like to see us do is create our own classic look. I'd say take Auburn's lead who has there own classic uniforms that don't change like the one below... or if not Auburn's then take Texas' lead on classic uniforms for UK like the ones below. Just imagine both designs in Kentucky Blue and White and maybe some black in there.

After all Auburn's and Texas' uniforms are considered some of the better looking ones in the nation. This would be a start to a new tradition for UK Football as the old tradition is a losing one so no need to bring back things of a losing generation.

  • I said for several years that I think the sharpest "traditional" uniforms we could go with would be to mirror the Indianapolis Colts, only with the interlocking UK where the horse shoe is on the helmet. Standard home unis would be white helmet, blue stripe, blue UK on side, gray facemask, blue jersey with double white stripes on the shoulders, white pants with 2 blue stipes down the side, white socks with blue striping, and black shoes. Standard home would be same helmet, white jersey with double blue stipes on shoulder, same white pants with 2 blue stipes down tthe side, same socks and black shoes. THE PROBLEM IS, f*cking Duke beat us to it due to Manning's connection to Cutcliffe, and it pissed me off. See the examples below. Now, if you are a fan of traditional uniforms and want them to be something simple that can be associated with UK forever, that would make for a sweet combo.

HOWEVER, given the Stoops family's connections and understanding of how to recruit and market your program, I don't expect them to be something as simple as what I mention below. I don't expect something as outlandish as what Oregon does, but I also don't expect plain and traditional. I, for one, would like to see us get rid of the checkerboard on the sleeves. I associate it with losing (a lot) and I suspect most everyone else does as well. I know KY is all about its horseracing, but that has nothing to do with the football program.

If we hang onto the current unis for another year or two, I expect to see us use more of the random combos to get the players excited. We had so many possible combinations the last 2 years, yet we used so few of them. What about white/black/white? It looks good. White/white/black and Blue/black/blue look pretty good as well.

  • Per Jeff Drummond's twitter about interviewing Stoops:

    "Jeff Drummond‏@JDrumUK

We'll be rolling out parts of that interview soon. One eye-catcher from his office was a "graphite-type" UK jersey and helmet design"

    BOOM!!!!!!

  • UK and Stoops appear to be on the upswing with recruits so I'm sure Nike is doing their due diligence to be a part of this momentum. Can't recall a time when Nike didn't position itself with the new hot kid on the block. They aren't a multi-billion $ company by not striking while the iron is hot.
