I agree with this completely. Have to take a different approach. When you can't recruit on the level of a lot of the other schools, you have to attack it at a different angle.

Have to run something that teams aren't going to see week in and week out.

Of course it's easy for the LSUs and Alabamas to run a pro style offense because they have a ton of pros. UK does not. Makes it harder.

Are we saying C M was a football AD after all ?

  • Sorry, I started another thread that basically said the same thing as this so I'll put my comment here!

UK is about to embark on an exciting brand of football that will be entertaining and competitive. I distinctly remember the first two years of the Hal Mumme era where UK gave as good as it got and introduced a brand of football that had UK fans totally behind the program (and Neal Brown appears to be every bit as adept in putting together a GREAT offense). However, it was fools gold in the long run due to Mumme's unethical approach to recruiting and total disregard for the importance of the defensive side of the ball.

Enter Mark Stoops. By his comments and hires you know he understands the challenges UK faces competing with THE BEST teams in college football week in and out. Coach Stoops knows he won't get the talent that the Alabama's and Florida's of the world get on a regular basis so he has to even the playing field in other ways. You can't compete in the SEC with an offense mired at the bottom of the NCAA due to running a stale and ineffective scheme that tries to ram a square peg in a round hole over and over again. And just as important, you can't win with a defense that toils from mediocre to down right awful. I just can't help but imagine the possibilities of the early Mumme era of an innovative and explosive offense coupled with a commitment to playing a sound defense and doing so in an ethical, sustainable way!!! I don't expect miracles but I do fully expect Coach Stoops to change things significantly enough to have the Cats able to compete every Saturday and to instill a sense of confidence and pride in the program we can all relish! Yes, better days are indeed ahead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For context, I provide this blurb from a press release on Neal Brown's imminent hiring that best sums up what I'm trying to say.
"Adding Brown to the coaching staff means the Wildcats now employ the architect of the nation's No. 2 defense and the No. 12 offense this season. Head coach Mark Stoops' defense at Florida State allowed just 253.4 yards per game this year, while Brown's offense averaged 501.4 yards per game."

    IMAGINE THE POSSIBLITIES!!!
