Maryland fans are A-Holes!

  • I got constant bombardment from Maryland fans at Barclay Center. They were hardly watching the game, just yelling some pretty mean things and throwing things at us. I heard a few other similar stories, one from Matt Jones (although I think every non UK fan hates him anyway). Anyone else?

  • Didn't go, but I've seen numerous people say they have the worst fans. Bomani Jones said on twitter they were hands down the most obnoxious fans in the ACC. The two North Carolina fans that wrote the book Duke Sucks said the same thing as Jones.

So your experience isn't the least surprising.

....and this is different from the way UK fans feel, how?

  • The MD fans during the Harrison twins saga were just down right maliscious towards KY and Cal on their team site. The things they said I havent heard from even the most radical KY fans so it doesnt surprise me that they were that bad in person. Is it true that there were a lot more MD fans at the game than KY fans? Thats what I read on one the articles about the game.

Yes, much more red than blue. I'd say of the 15,000ish there, it was 10,500 MD fans

  • All you had to do was read my twitter timeline over the last 6 months every time I would tweet out Twins weren't going to Maryland. They would attack me nonstop. Even guys claiming to have tight TX and MD sources were after me. They were awfully quiet when I turned out correct on the whole issue.

Yes, a significant amount more Maryland fans than Kentucky fans. And they were loud as hell too.

  • I definitely knew it would be that way, in the whole Harrison saga, I went over there to talk civil, and got about 10 downvotes if not more, even when I tried to calm them down and be totally neutral. I think it's easy to say they have probably the most rude fan base I have ever seen. I mean, it's not like it's just a few of the dumb ones that they can claim, it's really a good amount of them, I've seen maybe 1 or 2 friendly Maryland fans, the rest, well..... I think has already been explained.

  • Have to understand that outside of Moses Malone, the Harrisons were the biggest recruitment in Maryland basketball history. So it's an understatement to say that was a big deal to them.

And sadly for them, they truly believed they were getting the Harrisons. As one of my Maryland buddies put it, even before that their fans had "battered wife syndrome."

Could have told you beforehand that it was going to be ugly in Brooklyn.

I think it may be Northeasterners in general because my wife and I went up for the UK / UCONN game in 09 and got beer thrown on us and everything literally just for standing and cheering for the Cats.

As you can imagine it made it that much sweeter when Wall took over that game and we got to rub it in their faces...One of the greatest sports memories I have...

I went to the MD site also and tried to be calming in my comments but they were viscious none the less. They really were quite vulgar in the things they said and I also recieved many votes like you did. I gave up trying to calm the storm and didnt go back.I also understand that the Harrisons were a really big deal to them but they took it personally it seemed.

I went to both games as well. I agree, I think there's some element to them both being in that part of the country. My personal experience was that UConn fans around me were a little worse than what I saw personally from Maryland fans....but I would believe anything anybody told me about their experiences at Barclays center. I mean, they boo'd when UK/Cal presented a mil for hurricane victims and boo'd (as in the entire arena) every time they would show a 7 year old fan on the big screen if he had blue on.

  • Maryland fans are classless. I went to a Navy vs Maryland football game in Baltimore a few years ago. When Navy did their famous Brigade of the Midshipmen at the beginning of the game, the Maryland fans booed! You don't boo a midshipman. Sorry.

  • Yea most of them seem to think they are this great big sleeping giant lol, they won't be relevant in the national scene after this year. They have a decent team but again had we rebounded the ball that game it was a blow out and thats the truth. They actually had a few experienced players and the one guy that played well the Terp fans probably don't even know his name. They were all acting as if Cleare and Wells were going to dominate the game and I don't even think they combined for double figures. And as far as the Harrison twins go I made comments about if they wanted to play for a NC then they weren't going to UM and the Terp butt hurts acted like I was crazy. They think they are going to start getting all these great players but truth is they will be mid pack ACC for a long time and I sure hope we run into them again come NCAA and our fanbase will be the ones heard and they will find out what real fans are suppost to be like.
