Maryland's QB wanting to transfer to Vandy

If you want to go from Auburn, where you are getting NFL exposure to Arkansas State, then by all means. I have no problem with that. He does not have to sit out a year, because he is transferring down in the ranks. DI to DII.

Arkansas State is D-1A (FBS), but point well taken. EKU is D-1AA (FCS) which allows kids to transfer down and not sit out. You can't transfer up and play immediately, b/c some coaches would use FCS schools as JUCO/Prep Schools and recruit away their best players. I am a small government minimal rule guy, but some rules are in place for a good reason.

Could you imagine if it was a free for all for the big schools to continue to recruit players playing at other programs? Alabama, UF, LSU, etc. may say "Mr. Cobb we made a huge mistake in not recruiting you out of high school, but would you like to be part of a BCS championship team this year?" Now, Cobb is a high character guy and probably would say no, but I just used him as an example. Maybe a better example is "Mr. Couch, we know you were loyal to your in-state school, but why don't you quick running the option against us (UF) and come on down to play in a pass happy offense which Coach Curry knows nothing about?"

Arkansas St is a DI program. They are in the Sun-Belt conference, which they won last year. They are the program we stole Jalen Whitlow away from in the last couple of weeks. He is applying for a hardship waiver, saying that a family member is sick and moving closer to home is his reasoning for transfer. I don't believe it has been determined if they have rewarded it to him or not.

  • Then, I stand corrected. Arkansas State is DI? Really? Do we have no standards?

Yes, Arkansas St. is a member of the Sunbelt, and an FBS school. Have been for several years in fact.

  • I guess I am not surprised that they are a DI team, but FBS?

yeah, they are D1. They were the only conference team I believe who hung a L on Western in conference

  • When all else fails, they are DI. Seems like everyone is anymore.

They even made a bowl game last year under Hugh Freeze which they lost to Northern Illinois. They were also the only Sun Belt team to finish higher than WKU.
