It's just a rumor. No one really knows. Towles tweeted he doesn't want to play for anyone else nut UK. There are other players to be rumored as well.

I have to just be honest here. These freshman need to bite their tongues and put in their dues. So far, Mobley has had opporunities to run the ball....he doesn't seem to hit the hole as hard as George, Williams, and Sanders do. And he definitely shouldn't be playing in front of those three.......what's he expect? Does he expect to start at another D-1 school? Which one?

Some of these kids need to have a reality check.....

As for Towles....the best decision for him and UK was to RS him this year. It provides separation between he and Smith....and sorry, but Smith is one helluva QB who will likely start over the next 3 years, barring injury (966 yards, 8 TDs, 73% completion rate in three games? That's just plain sick....as a True Soph). Towles' - or his dad - should be able to see that Smith is a great QB (some of our fans should see that as well), and trying to air some "dirty laundry" publicly seems a bit sour grapes to me. Again, just my opinion here.....I think Towles will be a great one, no question. But if he stays at UK, it will happen after Smith graduates.

Before handing the team to a QB who was never recruited, lets see how he does when he actually plays against SEC school. Who cares what he does against the Kent States of the world and the other 2 games he lost.

He is injury prone to say the least and if you think about it for just a minute, UK biggest win last year was against Tennessee and who played QB in that game?

Finally, someone with some sense around here!! ^^^^THis 100% If any frosh are talking smack other than perhaps Sweat..I wouldnt even listen. If they cant make the 2 deep on this Uk team..how the heck can they do it for anyone else? And Max Smith is our starter barring injury..for the next 3 years...(this and 2 more). Anyone that watched the Ole Miss or Ga game last year should have seen Max had that IT factor.

The fact that Max Smith wasn't highly recruited has zero to do with his current ability as a starting QB for UK.

As for his stats....of course it wasn't against SEC competition. (and the fact that you pointed this out is a very predictable - be damned if you do, be damned if you don't, type of response). The very clear point I'm making, is that Towles would not have been able to put those numbers up against those same 3 teams as a True Freshman this fall.

Sorry, but there should be zero QB controversey here. We, as a fanbase, need to understand that there doesn't always have to be a perpetual QB controversey. If we don't get greedy, we could have Smith, Smith, Smith, Towles, Towles for the next 5 seasons. Let that one sink in.

Smith is one helluva QB.....your refusal to acknowledge that is b/c of your blind allegiance to a highly recruited KY kid. Towles will be good when it's his turn....but I guarantee you he's not as good as Smith is right now.

  • I can understand why someone would think of transferring since things are rather ill this yr, but it makes little sense to mention it now. If I were a player I would bite my tongue, apply myself like crazy, and then wait and see. Who knows? You may be looking at a new HC next yr that is right up your alley. Maybe they aren't and you can transfer. Maybe you find an opportunity to make a difference during this season......since its only 1/3rd over!!!!

Reality check: When you sign the scholarship papers you are making a yr long commitment to a program. Like I told my daughter when she plays soccer every yr. If you commit to the season then you honor it. Even if you know that you are ready to move on to something else, then move on after the season........but as of right now.......honor your commitment, do as the coach instructs, be a good teammate, keep your mouth shut, and work your tail off.

  • You know who the best player is on the team? The backup QB. Thats how it is on every team that is struggling. Hell a few years ago you guys were screaming for Newton. Then it was Moss. Last year it was Max.
Towles is sitting at #4. Do you think Joker would RS him if he could help him win? So Joker sits the best QB knowing his job is on the line?
I think Towles has a bright future and I hope its at UK but if he doesn't want to earn it, then he needs to transfer.

I agree they should bite their tongues but some of this is to be expected when the team is getting killed they aren't getting any chances. Like I said I don't agree with it but I can see why its happening.

Again....playing Towles yesterday, so he can sit the bench the rest of the season after Smith comes back next week? You, as a head coach, would have burned Towles' RS against the Gators yesterday? Is that what you're telling me/us?

I'm not trying to be jerk here at all either....just to be clear about my tone here (which can get lost in translation). I just think if Towles can see the bigger picture here, he'd understand that not playing yesterday was in his best interest.

We don't play Towles b/c Smith will be back next week. And maybe he just isn't ready. Did anyone think about that? Why is it that Whitlow has actually played this year and Towles hasn't?

However, would you rather have 2 years of Towles as a starter beginning his junior season, after Smith graduates? Or just 1 year after Smith graduates, b/c Joker decided to play Towles yesterday?

I'll be if you picked the latter (which you evidently have), you'd be kicking yourself in the tail when Towles only has 1 year to play as UK's starter.....

As for the "future is now" comments....lol. You guys act like Smith is a 5th year senior....the guy has only be in the program about 21 months (Jan. 2011). I'll repeat his stats.....73% completion rate; 966 yards; 8 TDs. 3 games. Sorry, I just don't think Towles puts up those same numbers in those 3 games.

You had me until this post. Our "coaching staff" has proven time and time again they not only are not good at making players ready to play, but they don't know who is ready to play and who isn't. Hell, they haven't even shown they are very good at evaluating the players on their own team and fielding the best ones to win ball games.

  • So the theory goes that the kid that is actually putting up outstanding numbers as a starting QB isn't on the same level as a kid that put up numbers playing D2 football in KY just because he wasn't recruited heavily. Wow just wow.

Max Smith isnt ready to play? (except his injury Sat). I mean, I think his numbers and overall performance speak for themselves......and not to defend our staff, but they have got it right by starting Smith at QB.

  • but Smith is one helluva QB who will likely start over the next 3 years.. Smith is a great QB

Really? "Helluva?" "Great?" I'm not knocking Max in the least - he may turn out to be a great QB, but he's not there yet. He's definitively shown he's better than Morgan, but so has every other D-1 QB. A lot of Smith's yards have come on swing passes and bubble-screens. There are a lot of throws I want to see him make consistently before I start calling him great (and against SEC comp). Not trying to hate on him or be negative in the least - I fully support him and I think there's a decent chance he may be solid or even great with time. Just saying I think there's more to see before we start throwing around such superlatives or hand him the QB reins for the next three years.

I don't know that Patrick Towles will be a "great" either, but he has the protype size and tools for a great QB, he's from KY and I was impressed by what play I saw of his at Highlands last year - I'd at least like to see him go through a Spring Practice and take some snaps before I go proclaiming him Smith's understudy for the next two years (epsecially in a more creative offensive system with better coaching - Ditto Max and Jalen).

Max Smith doesnt have "prototype size"? (He does). He actually also has the tools, and the leadership/moxie you want in a QB as well. But if you cant see that Smith, only a true soph, is a good QB who is going to get even better then there's not much I can do to change your mind. We're obviously on two different zones here....

It seems obvious however, that what this is about is one kid is from KY, and the other kid (who has almost 1000 passing yards in 3 games, 8 TDs, and is 3rd in the nation in completion rate at 73%) is not. Thats all i can think of ...

.Hell Max Smith is among the nation's leading passers so far this year (#1 in SEC passing yards, TDs and again, completion rate) and yet some of you refuse to open your eyes to his ability. I dont give a crap if those passes are bubble screens (very difficult play to hit ur receiver so quickly and accurately btw) or not...Towles would be running the same offense. And he wouldnt be putting up thise numbers. And remember, Tim Couch every UK fan's golden boy, threw these same bubble screens, etc. So dont try and downplay Smith's success in this offense.

So yes, Smith's a "helluva" QB....it's a shame you and other folks cant or refuse to acknowledge that.

  • Smith looked like a helluva quarterback throwing 4 picks against mighty western. I think Smith is a serviceable qb right now with some potential. I think we will be able to tell more about him in the coming weeks against stiffer competition. He's along way from being woodson or couch right now.
