**Maxwell Smith will start on Saturday**

  • Joker Phillips said today that Maxwell Smith 'looked good' throwing the football today and will start on Saturday. I asked if anything could happen between now and then, like last week, and he said that won't be the case. Said he's 100 percent ready to go.

But, we know how Coach Phillips is on evaluating his players right Matt? lol Just kidding of course. Thanks again for taking the time to chat with me yesterday.

Anytime. I always enjoy a little debate.

  • Let's hope he gets 100% healthy and stays healthy. A seperated shoulder doesn't heal in one week..........just saying. O-line needs to battle and protect him. O-line is playing pretty good right now and need to turn it up another to cover Smith's back.

  • If he had an AC sprain in his shoulder or a 3rd degree tear then he's not 100%. If the AC in the shoulder is the problem then they have to be giving him cortisone shots before the game.... If that's the case then I hope its not a close game in the 4th quarter... That stuff is good for 3 quarters and in the 4th quarter the player feels every bit of the pain.... I sprained my AC joint in my shoulder and lived on cortisone shots for the remainder of the season when I played....

I agree. There's almost no shoulder injury that would keep a QB sidelined one week, but have him be 100% the next? Sounds like a little coach speak to me. I do hope Max can go, but I worry he might make some errors as a result of his condition. Of course, he could probably throw it with his other arm and still look better than last week.

  • If he sprained his ac joint in the western game and was able to play through it it wasn't that bad. I sprained mine in a game in high school and couldn't play the rest of the game. In fact, the md's were convinced it was a broken collerbone. I felt good enough without a shot to play the next week and was healthy within two.

Have we gotten confirmation on what is actually wrong?

  • Ok. The seperation is painful but if he can play through the pain he should be ok.

  • Tough situation for the UK quarterback.

The coaches best have a backup plan. It will be tough for Max Smith to survive the season, IMO. He is having to get a cortisone shot to even practice.

Interesting Q & A on shoulder separations from a leading orthopaedic surgeon in Colorado, discussing a similar injury to 49'er quarterback Alex Smith.

Either he should have played last Sat, or he will not be 100% this Sat. That's all I'm saying.

  • Smith getting hurt two years in a row shows why having great QBs coming off a redshirt is a wonderful plan. Towles will come in on a level playing field for playing time next year because of the injury problems. He will need to get stronger, tougher, and memorize the playbook in the off season, along with workouts with his receivers.

if it was 50-50, would u have risked him playing at fla? Wow!

Did I say that? No. I said either he was good enough to go, or he isn't really 100% by now. Point being, he's not really 100% like Joker said. Why is it that some of you guys only read half of someone's post, and then comment about it?

It's much more than "memorizing" the playbook. These young qb's know the entire playbook. It's having enough reps and understanding defenses that young qb's have to get comfortable with.

  • Smith not 100%. Towles takes off his redshirt, takes over at the start of the second half with UK trailing 17-0. He throws 3 TD passes in the second half to win the game.

He becomes the darling of Kentucky, winning 5 more games and the Outback bowl to resurrect KY football, save Jokers job, and becomes National Player of the Year.

I might be loco but fantasy sure beats reality when it comes to UK football these days.

Heres to hoping Smith is 100% healthy and has a great game and we look competitive.pray

Sanders was quoted in the paper early in fall practice that Towles was very talented but lacked the knowledge of the playbook. Max had the same problem last year.

Maybe you ought to work on explaining your posts better instead of acting like your feelings got hurt.
