Miami Recruiting Scandal Redux

  • Last week we discussed Allen, a potential unauthorized UM recruiter under Golden who had contact with Bridgewater and Rogers, who eventually committed to UL.

Well today, the rumor is that Allen was recruiting against Miami and that there are phone records showing that Allen contacted Clint Hurtt (UL) and a recruiter from Bama.

If true, this will be something to keep a particularly close eye on in coming months. Hurtt potentially used an unauthorized recruiter to give impermissible benefits to, at the very least, Bridgewater in an attempt to recruit negatively against UM and in UL's favor.

    Interesting...

Nothing is going to happen to anyone involved....at most maybe some reduced scholarships for UM. This all stems from a convicted felon spouting off at the mouth (whether it's true or not). They have nothing concrete on Miami except Hurtt's receipt...(not enough)

Until a player, coach, equipment manager comes forward with an admission nothing major will happen. Shapiro's stuff is weak with no legit paper trail and he's a convicted felon/ponzi schemer.

This is new stuff. Hurtt accused of using Allen once he left Miami and to get Bridgewater and company. Since when is a personal check not a papertrail?

  • Since when did the NCAA need a paper trail?

One personal check is not enough to give major sanctions to a coach or university (it was a personal loan).

"Hurtt accused of using Allen". Accusations are great, but they're not enough to get anyone into trouble. Unless JDHLaw11 knows more than he is letting on, nothing to the minimum will happen.

Now, if he knows something and trying to stoke the flame, that's a different story. But what is being and has been reported is not enough to do anything.

  • Coaches aren't allowed to take personal loans from registered boosters, which Shapiro was at the time. It was either 2 loans or 2 payments of a loan, one of which was a check. And no it isn't just his word against UM's, his is backed by the fact that this is the same info used against him by the Feds in their racketeering charges against him. To which he plead guilty. The same info that the Feds were going to inform the school of themselves, if he didn't. Only thing really in doubt is if the NCAA has enough sense to use the info provided considering the source. Now, in relation to UL, very well may end up that they come out clean and only Hurtt gets hit. But he should be hit with a show/cause penalty. Heck, the money his loan came from was laundered money, which was why the Feds had that piece of evidence.

Select the "Charles Robinson w/ Sileo" interview.

Please take what I said at face value. I'm at work and unable to listen to an interview and get the specifics. I'm going off of what is purported to be the content of the interview, as posted on the UL and UM(FL) sites.

  • Just listened to it. Not sure how much it effects UL except for Hurtt. Hurtt is definitely dirty. Lots of mentions of Bridgewater being in a restaurant on an unofficial with the new UM coaching staff.

But the host said that Allen was calling the UL and Bama staff alot.

    Lots of calls?

Maybe Hurtt was placing an order for takeout...

  • Don't know what, if anything, will come of this, but the UL boards have deleted any reference to this. Hope we get some more information in the near future.

IF (that is a BIG IF) anything comes out of this...and Bridgewater's recruitment possibly affected, you don't see how perhaps Bridgewater's eligibility is affected? (thereby affecting UL).

  • Lets not forget that Hurtt borrowed money from this guy. That along should cause the NCAA investigate him.

  • Compared with PSU, this is nothing. Take away one scholarship and say "naughty & don't do it again". Next.
