Mississippi State Prediction Thread:

  • MSU 27-7. Really, none of us has any idea because it all depends on how the freshman qb's play. With Smith, I would say something like 27-20.

  • I see that old jim posted, but the last post in the thread is by VA2UK.

    I am confused

  • Miss St plays with a lot more confidence than they used to and they are being coached up..You can really tell the difference in their team. They also have depth and size and talent
and look where they are playing..This is not one of the more scenic places in the SEC...Credit to Mullen and staff for the job they have done..I know that I could not name one coach on their staff..That tells me that a big name is not always the answer, but these guys know their football..Our guys have not been coached up in Joker's 3 years....It is really time for our staff to move on..Maybe not all of them, but most of them..

  • I really thought we would have a good chance to win this one, but I don't like our green QBs vs their experienced D. We could catch them off guard a little, but I just don't see the upset. Hope I am wrong, but..

This team got out scored 31-0 n the 2nd half! USC slept walked the first half and uk got every bounce known to man kind in the first. We will be lucky to score against MSU! It will be ugly.

All we need is the score....

Actually, while Starkville isn't Lexington, things are looking up in our sleepy Southern town. Just this year, we passed Columbus, MS, as the largest "city" in the Golden Triangle. Starkville is now 28,000+, with Mississippi State being a separate incorporated entity at about 14,000 living on campus. So, between campus and the town, we have over 40,000 now. Most of the young men on our football team are from small towns of no more than 5,000, so Starkville actually is a "city" to them. The city of Starkville has been undergoing quite a significant change with the development of the Cotton District with a lot of boutiques and bars. We actually serve alcohol after noon now on Sundays.

As for the football game today, your best chance of winning is finding a way to run the ball. Our defense seems to play to the level of the competition, so that may benefit you. We have played lackluster, uninspired football the last two games, although our first team defense hasn't given up a touchdown this season yet. Our backups are young. Our offense gets ahead by several TD's and Mullen shuts it down. We have played over 70 players each game, except Auburn, and we played over 65 in that game. Tyler Russell is one of the most accurate passers in the SEC. It doesn't help that he has far too many drops in games. His performance against USA was hampered by a sprained wrist. Your defense needs to put a lot of pressure on him, otherwise he can pick you apart. Ladarius Perkins is small...really small...listed at 5-10 190, he is more like 5-7 185, but he is incredibly quick and strong for his size and makes people miss. We have three other RB's that also get snaps, and they all have SEC skills.

Our recruiting is a lot like yours. We have few 4 and 5 stars, in fact, we have NO 5 stars. But, allow me to give you an example, which you have also seen in some of your players. Bernardrick McKinney is a redshirt freshmen from Tunica. He was a 6-4 205 running QB and free safety in high school. He is now a 6-5 245 redshirt freshman and a starting MLB. Johnthan Banks was unknown in high school, a 6-1 160 pound QB/S/WR/PR/KR in high school, growing up 20 miles from Starkville in tiny Maben, MS. I think he was a 2 star. He is now a consensus All American and as a freshman, returned 2 interceptions for TD's against....Tim Tebow in a single game. Our other corner, Darius Slay, was a 2 star "athlete" coming out of Brunswick, GA. He is tied for the lead in interceptions in the SEC with 4. Banks and Slay have 7 interceptions between them. If you look at our recruiting classes, you will see a lot of kids signed as "athletes." Our All SEC candidate at LB, Cam Lawrence, was a 6-2 200 QB at tiny Magnolia Heights in Coldwater, MS. He is now 6-3 235 and one of the smartest LB's in the SEC.

I think our defense will try to stop you from running the ball, and we will force you to throw into what could be the best secondary in the SEC. I think Denico Autry could have a breakout game today for us at DE. My prediction is:

    BlueGhost,

Do you intend to change your prediction, or did you forget about the prediction you made earlier?

I am changing it to your most recent post, but if that is not your intention, repost.

    Thanks
