No matter what Barnhart says right now he's going to get criticized. If he shows moderate support, he'll get blasted. If he rips the situation, he'll get blasted. He needs to worry about how he moves forward, not satisfying people who want blood. Nothing he says right now means much of anything in terms of where they go next. He needs to worry about what the end game is, not what people want to hear on Sept. 16.

Barnhart needs to put the football program first and nothing else. If he had done that from day one the UK fan base would not be out for blood.
The end game is again simple. Put UK into the SEC in a position they can actually win games. His silence now is no difference than what it has been since Joker took controls of the team. Now UK has in one year lost to UL and now Western, a team that only recently started playing D-1 ball. The time for political correctness is over and the time to act is now.
If the point of the excersise is to put fans into the seats of CWS then doing or saying nothing is pure follishness and could only happen at a school that does not want a football program. It took 40 years but finally the UK football fan is feed up and they want changes. Make the changes, hire a coach, support that coach with a recruiting budget that allows him to recruit the best assistant coaches and recruit nationwide and you will see changes overnight.
No more silly excuses.

We aren't good right now. But to compare This to the curry era or even the mid 80's is beyond silly.
Barnhart has done more for football than all Of our other ad's combined. Every one of us was cheering when brooks And Barnhart made joker hciw. It hadn't worked out.
Barnhart has a track record of having very good timing in terms of when to make a move and how to handle the hiring process. He's also man enough to admit when he's made a mistake.

I agree with Matt on this point. It's probably best for Mitch to remain quiet for the time being and allow the season play out. Nothing he can say is going to improve the situation, and it certainly won't quiet disgruntled fans.
And I do not see UK having anything to gain by making a public decision mid-year. IMO, you do that only if there was a logical head coaching candidate on the current staff and you wanted to make him an interim to evaluate him. I don't think there is any such assistant on UK's staff. And regardless, UK would have to wait until after the regular season to begin any sort of interview process.
Assuming this goes the way it's looking right now (i.e., the team continues to struggle and they let Joker go), it's simply a huge hire for Mitch, the athletics department, and the University. IMO, rather than trying to satisfy upset fans with mere words, Mitch needs to spend his time by beginning to gather information on potential candidates. Like many, I truly hope he will lean on good football minds to help with the decision (Jeff Van Note and Rich Brooks are the first two that come to mind).

Nice post!
I would love to see Mitch establish a committee to help with a search (a la Mike Pratt bringing in Coach Cal in basketball).
Yes, I think Jeff Van Note would be a good one for the committee. I can't see Coach Brooks being willing, due to his relationship with Mitch Barnhart. That bridge has been burned.

That’s not entirely true. If he came out publically and said he had made a mistake, but that he planned to begin vetting candidates immediately in order to make a grand slam hire that would propel UK to the next level, most fans, if they believed him, would be satisfied for now. He could also say that we were going to use some of the Big Time SEC contract money we are pulling in, to make an unprecidented commitment to the football program going forward. I’m pretty sure if he said these two things, a whole lot of fans would be ecstatic!
