  • Any word on Mitch's next speaking engagement? I wonder what sort of public comments he will give on the football situation.

  • No matter what Barnhart says right now he's going to get criticized. If he shows moderate support, he'll get blasted. If he rips the situation, he'll get blasted. He needs to worry about how he moves forward, not satisfying people who want blood. Nothing he says right now means much of anything in terms of where they go next. He needs to worry about what the end game is, not what people want to hear on Sept. 16.

This. While unlikely, if joker were somehow able to scrape out 3 or 4 sec wins there is no way he could fire joker. I don't expect a decision until we reach the point that it becomes impossible to get to 5 wins.

Btw. I said all along that joker has to get five wins minimum to keep his job.

Think there are a lot more factors that go into it than just black and white wins/losses.

Yes Chris. However, with losses to both UL & WKU, those other factors will not matter. I think it will take at least 5 wins at this point for Joker to stick around. Likely six. I don't think that's going to happen, but it's still possible. I'll be there cheering for him all the way, but my guess is Mitch will make it official after loss 7 or 8.

Of course there are but if we are only good enough to get 4 wins the that means we are an awful team

Barnhart needs to put the football program first and nothing else. If he had done that from day one the UK fan base would not be out for blood.

The end game is again simple. Put UK into the SEC in a position they can actually win games. His silence now is no difference than what it has been since Joker took controls of the team. Now UK has in one year lost to UL and now Western, a team that only recently started playing D-1 ball. The time for political correctness is over and the time to act is now.

If the point of the excersise is to put fans into the seats of CWS then doing or saying nothing is pure follishness and could only happen at a school that does not want a football program. It took 40 years but finally the UK football fan is feed up and they want changes. Make the changes, hire a coach, support that coach with a recruiting budget that allows him to recruit the best assistant coaches and recruit nationwide and you will see changes overnight.

    No more silly excuses.

We aren't good right now. But to compare
This to the curry era or even the mid 80's is beyond silly.

Barnhart has done more for football than all
Of our other ad's combined. Every one of us was cheering when brooks
And Barnhart made joker hciw. It hadn't worked out.

Barnhart has a track record of having very good timing in terms of when to make a move and how to handle the hiring process. He's also man enough to admit when he's made a mistake.

There you go grandstanding for Mitch again! I scratch my head?????

Mitch went cheap when he got Joker and it is biting him now. To defend Mitch, Coach Brooks did make the recommendation for Joker. I think he was thinking about keeping continuity in the program. Then Joker canned most of Rich's assistant coaches and killed the thought. Might have been one of Coach Brooks' greatest regrets, in hindsight.

I think it would be fair to ask Rich about what Mitch has done for the football program. If it was as good as you are promoting it to be, Rich Brooks would probably still be leading our program and we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now.

Book it Danno.......these are the true facts!

I agree with Matt on this point. It's probably best for Mitch to remain quiet for the time being and allow the season play out. Nothing he can say is going to improve the situation, and it certainly won't quiet disgruntled fans.

And I do not see UK having anything to gain by making a public decision mid-year. IMO, you do that only if there was a logical head coaching candidate on the current staff and you wanted to make him an interim to evaluate him. I don't think there is any such assistant on UK's staff. And regardless, UK would have to wait until after the regular season to begin any sort of interview process.

Assuming this goes the way it's looking right now (i.e., the team continues to struggle and they let Joker go), it's simply a huge hire for Mitch, the athletics department, and the University. IMO, rather than trying to satisfy upset fans with mere words, Mitch needs to spend his time by beginning to gather information on potential candidates. Like many, I truly hope he will lean on good football minds to help with the decision (Jeff Van Note and Rich Brooks are the first two that come to mind).

    Nice post!

I would love to see Mitch establish a committee to help with a search (a la Mike Pratt bringing in Coach Cal in basketball).

Yes, I think Jeff Van Note would be a good one for the committee. I can't see Coach Brooks being willing, due to his relationship with Mitch Barnhart. That bridge has been burned.

That’s not entirely true. If he came out publically and said he had made a mistake, but that he planned to begin vetting candidates immediately in order to make a grand slam hire that would propel UK to the next level, most fans, if they believed him, would be satisfied for now. He could also say that we were going to use some of the Big Time SEC contract money we are pulling in, to make an unprecidented commitment to the football program going forward. I’m pretty sure if he said these two things, a whole lot of fans would be ecstatic!

Mitch’s chance to right all UK football wrongs and make a grand slam hire are here. Will he take the necessary actions to prove his doubters wrong about his commitment to football? Likely not. I want all of you Barnhart defenders to realize that though. The line is drawn in the sand. If he does anything but make a grand slam hire, he is not a good AD, and is not committed to football. Like I said in another thread, I hope he proves me wrong!

yup, burnt and down into the river. Should tell everyone what you need to know about Mitch Barnhart & UK football.

Don't trust Mitch with this hire more than I would my 5 year old with my car keys. Besides former respected players, UK ought to also engage Nike. They pay us a lot of money, I'm sure they have good ideas on candidates to lead entertaining teams to wear their products. Also Mike Slive. He wants what is best for the SEC, so he would assist one of the 14 members in hiring the best candidate who will help the overall strength of the conference.

How often does an employer (IE Mitch) make a public announcement that he is looking for one of his employees replacement when he has has not fired that employee(IE Joker) first?!?!

Matt is right on this one. Mitch is best to stay quiet until he is ready to make is move, rather its to fire or keep Joker. No matter what he says, he will get completely blown up. He would even get blown up if he came out and said he just fired Joker. There are fans on both sides of the fence here folks.

  • The best thought on this subject was posted somewhere and stated that an announcement would probably come after the 7th loss and we were eliminated from bowl consideration. That is looking like the end of October first of November. At that point a buy out could be negotiated and Barnhart could announce that the internal goals for the program had not been met. On the other hand, who knows what Barnhart will do? No one.

    zcats

  • I've said it on here three times. When we get to the point where we can't reach 5 wins that's the point Barnhart accepts joker's resignation.

He's got to win 3 in the sec. Thats a tall task.

    hoptownukfan

  • You think 5 wins keeps Joker at UK even with losses to UL and WKU?

Absolutely. That means we win 3 in the sec. It will take a huge turnaround between now and then but if we get 5 wins that means joker rallied the troops and turned things around this year.

We can't ignore the youth in the program. Consider who made the biggest plays down the stretch against wku. As of today I predict joker will lose his job. I can't see 5 wins if
We continue to turn the ball over.
