Mitch the Hypo........

  • Matt/Chris,

If he cared about winning he would do exactly what he did at Oregon St and hire the best coach for the job, regardless of baggage! Hell, Erickson had NCAA Vioations on his resume at Miami, recruited criminals, etc but Mitch looked the other way because he wanted to win. Now, you have the same situation and Mitch is allowing his faith and personal feelings above the UK Football Program! Rarely will we ever have a chance to get a coach like Petrino, who's wanting to come here.

Mitch was against Cal the first go around because of baggage and after the Billy experiment, he had to get the best guy regardless of the baggage and hired Cal! There's no excuse to not offer the job and include a moral clause and a 10 million dollar buyout!

I'm amazed that you guys and other local media continue to ignore what happened at Oregon St.......... It's the same situation but this go around Mitch won't do what's best for the football program!

Geez, let's move on from the Petrino lovefest. This sorry excuse for a human showed his true colors at UL, Atlanta, and Arkansas. Just because you go to two BCS games doesn't make you the best fit for UK. There are many good candidates out there including Chris Peterson, Gary Patterson, and even MacIntyre that are good solid people that can also win just as many games as Petrino. Why do alot of fans forget how he was coach at UL and hated UK in every way. Was a douche to Brooks every chance he got.

  • Erickson was desperate for a job when Mitch signed him at Oregon State. Petrino is not. There is no way that Mitch would be able to structure a contract satisfactory to Petrino and his huge ego that would also sufficiently protect UK's interests.

Kentucky was pretty much Cal's dream job, not so much with Petrino.

Aside from the fact that no contract would protect UK from potential vicarious liability, can you point me to the source of information that has definitively said that UK has not offered Petrino a contract similar to what you are referring to?

Or are we still just pretending things have or have not happened and running with that fantasy as fact?

Fact is no one knows. Like the post. I wish we had some idea of what is actually going on with this process. Understand the reason for secrecy, but a total lack of communication is dumbfounding. I tell the team that works for me daily, "communicate with our clients, they need to know where things stand". If you do that, people are on board. This is the hire that determines the culture of UK football for all those of us who have sat thru the rain and the disasters and the triumphs because we love our Blue. Please tell me we will try to match that enthusiasm going forward.

Communication means nothing right now. If its a good hire people will applaud, if not, they will boo. Having a press conference or not plays no role in the outcome.

Though I agree, the real question is... could those two HUGE egos co-exist under the same roof? That may be asking a bit much... even too much for BBN to handle. lol

First of all you are not on the board nor do you have anything to do with UK other than being a fan.

We have no right to be in the mix to help choose a new coach unless you are willing to flip a mill or two to hire one.

This is why we have an AD period.

Cal's ego has nothing to do with UK and who they hire.

His ego proves itself with wins and a NC. Cal wants the football program to win it makes more money for the school. More money to be passed around....

Man with the ego you think he has would nto help to raise money for the poor and the helpless.

I really don't know whether he's a good hire or not, but he is surely not the only hire. I am counting on our AD to make the most informed decision possible with well researched and vetted information to reach the goals he has stated. I hope he is talking to everyone across the nation, picking their brains and digesting this info into an organized process to make the very best decision on what is already a gamble by nature. Haste makes waste.

I agree 100% with this. Those saying he is the only hire and that Mitch should be fired if he doesn't hire Petrino need to have their brains examined. Likewise those who think he doesn't need to be on the list at all are also wrong. He is a "secon tier" type of hire for me.
