Mobley is already beasting!

Minter I think we've talked about this quite a bit, how numerous SEC AD's have hired assistants for their head coaching jobs, even at high profile Universities. So although you may not have heard of it, it has happened quite a bit. See Muschamp at Florida today, or Franklin at Vandy, etc.

Yep I remember the thread clearly. Its Minter time.

Never heard of an SEC AD hiring a football coach to get on the job training for the head coaching gig and allowing multiple years to grow into the job. It sounds good, but that just isn't the reality of SEC football.

Seriously? You are either VERY young, or don't follow football nearly as close as I thought you did. I give you the following:

Alabama - Ray Perkins, Mike Dubose, Mike Shula
Arkansas - Jack Crowe *I add Crowe because his only HC experience was 2 years at West Alabama.
    Auburn - Doug Barfield
Florida - Galen Hall, Ron Zook, Will Muschamp
Georgia - Ray Goff, Mark Richt
UK - John Ray, Guy Morriss, Joker Phillips
LSU - Jerry Stovall, Bill Arnsparger, Mike Archer
Mississippi - Ken Cooper, David Cutcliffe, Ed Orgeron
Mississippi St. - Bob Tyler, Rocky Felker, Sylvester Croom, Dan Mullen
Missouri - Al Onofrio, Woody Widenhoffer
    South Carolina - Brad Scott
UT - Bill Battle, Phillip Fulmer, Lane Kiffin (no college HC experience)
AtM - Gene Stallings, Emory Bellard, Tom Wilson, R.C. Slocum, Mike Sherman
Vandy - Steve Sloan, Gerry DiNardo, James Franklin

What's sad JD, your post will mean nothing and Minter will make the exact same post again within a week.

  • I wish everyone would read the original post in this thread and then read the last 20+ posts in it to see where it gas gone. This shit is getting old, every thread being turned into a debate about the future of the program or Joker. If you don't want to talk about Mobley, take that noise to another, more appropriate thread.....PLEASE!!!

You're absolutely right. I made a post a couple of pages back that we got the best back in the state of Tennessee last year (better than 4* backs Kimbrow & Mathers), but no one seemed interested in discussing that.

UGA (Richt), UF (Muschamp), MSU (Mullen) and Vandy (Franklin) readily come to mind as SEC schools who have done just that in recent years.

    Left out Derek Dooley.

It would be great if 247 had an option to split and merge posts for mods/admin to clean up topics.

  • I just went back and watched some highlights on YouTube and this youngman "was" a stud. And if hes put on that much weight and strength since then, then Beasting may even be a understatement.
I for one cant wait to see what he can do before he leaves UK.

I had only seen him on youtube and local television highlights until his senior year. When I saw UK was interested, I made three trips to see him, and never came away disappointed. Good pad level, good inital burst, good vision, as had a much better top gear than what I originally thought. I'm guessing the only thing that kept him from a higher ranking were some "character issues" as a junior.....but the times I saw him, he went about doing the spectacular with minimal theatrics, and seemed to be well liked by his teammates. More than a couple of people I talked to at the games told me that he would be much better off going away to school, and away from some "influences" in the area.....

And UT hired him after a 4-8 season...huh At least when someone hires Sonny Dykes after this season, he will probably be coming off a really nice season. Of course, I suppose you could argue that Dykes is doing it with talent that Dooley brought in...

  • I too am excited about the abilities Mobley brings to the team. Barring injury, i fully expect him to force his way into the rotation. We have a lot of 'unproven' talent but it's been a long time since I've been this excited about the potential of our running game.

Yup and Auburn hired Chizik after a 2-10 season and a 5-19 career record at Iowa State.

  • Maybe the point that some were trying to make but were clumsy about it, of course SEC programs have hired 1st time head coaches.....but would not use that "young head coach" excuse for very long, and forgive poor win loss records from said 1st time coaches? Pretty sure the Florida folks were disappointed to be 6-6 and expect improvements this upcomming season, and if they dont happen then Muschamp will be firmly on the hotseat going into year 3. LSU wasnt very patient with Mike Archer, nor Ole Miss with Ed Orgeron.

Yeah....and you've got to wonder where Chizik would be if the Barners had been unable to purchase Cam Newton's services. I kind of hated to see them go off the schedule. We flat kicked their ass (a 21-7 win if a FG isn't blocked and took to the house) at Auburn, and if the field is 6 inches wider or Randall Burden gets to the football a split second sooner, that's us lining up to kick the game winning FG and there's no national championship for Auburn.

I fully expected Chizik to flop. Then he gets the break of a lifetime with Cam Newton and wins the big one. Now he's got the momentum.

The good thing about Mobley to put up some of these numbers lifting he must be a hard worker. You don't get that strong this early in life without hard work the vast majority of the time. A lot of these young players we have definitely have the talent to be good ones but they still have to put in work like their life depends on their football career. They have to truly dream about being drafted and playing on Sundays. On the basketball side thats one thing thats been underrated. These top kids that Cal brings in mostly want it bad. They don't take things for granted for the most part and want to be great.

    Orgeron got 3 seasons
    Archer got 4
If Joker takes a step backward in season 3, he will likely be gone as well.

I love how people think they can do things like throw evidently in front of sentences and then say whatever they want. Are people really "getting out of the way" in RECORD numbers? Or, are you just trying to amplify what you say with complete bullshit that has no factual backing whatsoever? What RECORDS have been broken?

To answer you Moss, I was responding to RV who said get on board or outof the way. I don't have any factual evidence about attendance or ticket sales because UK keeps all that information super secret or spins it like crazy. My comment about attendance is based on seeing almost all the games played in Commonwealth Stadium and judging how few people came last year. I could be wrong but I think it was the lowest number of fans in my memory. (Another poster whose family member is a LPD officer stated that the gate count one week was about 35k as I remember.)

As to ticket sales, there has been a steady stream of posters stating they dropped their seats and others who got upgrades or parking passes they have been trying to obtain for years just recently. I believe the UKAA budget projected a 2 million dollar drop in football revenue for this season. It is impossible to give factual information because UK hides the data but there is evidence that support for UKFB is waning. That is why I used the term "evidentially" because there is clear evidence that this program is losing support but that evidence is based on personal observation and heresay. It may not hold up in a court of law but it seems like a logical conclusion to me. We can disagree if you want.

I didnt ignore the negative. The other guy mentioned all the negative I mentioned some of the positive. I acknowledged that joker has to show progress.

You are correct. UK looked very good in Joker's first year at times. Auburn and South Carolina were excellent efforts and games.

Hopefully we see more performances like the USC win and the Auburn tough loss this year. We should have picked off several of Cam's passes in that game against Auburn. That was back when Guy played safety and had absolutely no ball skills. Could have very well won that game. Our offense was pretty damn solid that year. I think this year you'll see more defense and a little less offense but the results could be similar. 6 wins and a bowl berth.

  • Moberly looks like a stud but I wouldn't be so quick to toss George aside. He is not much smaller than Moberly and has looked pretty good when given the opportunity. I am beginng to think that Clemons is going to require a redshirt to get over his knee injury and that should open a lot of carries for the other guys. I absolutely love Williams. If he can stay healthy he could really have a special season. That guy plays full bore all the time.

Man if we could all get on the same page...
Maybe some wins this year will help do just that.
