More on Justin Taylor Recruitment

  • “We trusted the coaches at Kentucky,” Pritchett said. “We felt comfortable with them, and they promised to take care of Justin. I think everything turned out well, ultimately. I wanted him to go to college right now because when you’re the first person in your family to graduate from high school, you don’t need to be sitting out. You never know what might happen in December or next year at Alabama.

    “I wanted Justin to go ahead and get started in college, and I’ve always told him that. But I was going to support him with whatever decision he wanted to make.”

  • According to the article;

    "The Crimson Tide signed 26 players, including eight from the state of Georgia."

    How is Bama getting away with signing 1 more than the SEC limit of 25? Is this a misprint on the article's side?

  • They have 8 enrolled and going through Spring Practice and 18 signed letters of intent. I can only guess that 1 of them is going to count against last years class, like Brown is for ours. That is the only way you would see them losing Taylor and Philon due to numbers.

  • That article is great publicity for UK's coaches. I didn't read all the following comments, but none of the ones I read said anything derogatory about UK and instead focused on Bama and Saban (usually, anything positive about UK football in the AJC is met with derision).

    Also, this is a great quote form (former Gamecock player) Stanley Pritchett: "Taylor ended up picking Kentucky instead of Ole Miss after a whirlwind courtship within the last few days. North Atlanta coach Stanley Pritchett, who is also Taylor’s guardian and a former SEC and NFL running back, was in favor of signing on Wednesday rather than waiting on Alabama’s promises for next year.

    Finally, isn't North Atlanta one of the HS's that Tee worked at briefly while he was in Atlanta?

    Last, and unrelated to this, did anyone notice that Pancho Thomas' coach was Ronnie Cottrell, who was implicated in a Bama cheating scandal a while back?

    that is true. Tee talked about when he used to coach there and having a relationship. So that was one of his stops along the way to UK. Served us VERY well in the end.....

  • Same as UK with 26 including Kory Brown as 2011 holdover/early enrollee. Newspapers just don't do a very good job of explaining that distinction.
