NIT bound

  • That was the game we needed to win. I don't see us winning any more in the regular season. Hopefully we can pull out a win at Georgia but that may just be wishful thinking with the way they handled the ball tonight.

Tonight certainly makes the Georgia game a MUST WIN! I know I'm like a lot of other folks who are disappointed this year but understand this is going to happen from time to time with such a high turnover in players. This years group of freshman aren't as good as advertised and there wasn't any experience to fall back on. It happens!

  • UK's guard play is too weak to win big games on road. UK can't overcome the HCA in most cases. That said, Georgia will beat UK by double digits...Florida wins by double digitis at Rupp..UK loses in first round of NIT..Thank God its over..227 days til the Harrison twins come.

Wow, that's a bit over the top! Lets at least play the next two games instead of rolling over and playing dead. Yes today sucked but I still give the cats a punchers chance in the next two games.

  • Wins against UGa and the Gators or a win against UGa, a decent showing against the Gators in a loss and two sEC tourney wins will still get them in. This team will not get further than the round of 32 at best though.

    That's a fair assessment. I don't understand how folks can't see this?????????

    Spot on.

In terms of the tourney. It boils down to matchups and how the game is called. If the game is called tight we can beat anybody. It's when teams are allowed to play so physical that we wilt

    hoptownukfan

  • Yeah it could happen like that and since you guys know this for sure could you help a poor fellow UK fan out and give me the winning lottery numbers. Just kidding but hoptown is correct about one this that is for sure, NCAA or NIT if we play a team that is athletic and physical then it is over.

  • Today could have been a 'make' game but was never a 'break' game. The bubble is too soft. It changes day to day. Losing on the road to a team that is 17-1 at home and already beaten both Florida and Missouri there doesn't make you out. Losing at Georgia would do that. Win at Georgia, don't get demolished against Florida and win at least one game in the SEC Tournament and I still think a 22-11 (12-6) Kentucky team is dancing, at worst in the play-in game.

  • What people fail to factor in is that Kentucky brings the NCAA a TON of money when they get into the field. Compare that to many of the other options and it's a no brainer. I also think that the SEC will still send 4 teams to the field.

Money will have no influence on the selection committee. If we do get in we will be lucky to not have to play somewhere out west. We won't be considered for a venue close to Lexington because we simply just don't deserve that this year. We would have some fans travel, but not near the amount this year due to the fact that we are just an ok team. Everyone that is realistic knows that we are not getting past the first weekend short of a complete team turnaround or a huge upset by someone else helping UK out. People won't spend that amount of money quite as easily on this team.

NO game is a "must win" every year there's a surprise. Maybe we can pull off the sec tournament

I do not think the officating has been very good this year. The charge / block is a big guessing game call to call. However this team with with a tightly called game cannot beat anyone in the the top 25. There are just too many defencies in the way they play. They will not be going anywhere if they get in the field.

  • Hoptown's comment on the officiating and this team was correct and its the reason why our coach and other coaches around the country try to recruit the biggest strongest players possible at every position. Guys simply get beat to death in college basketball and you've got to be able to play through that beating. Its why guys like MKG thrive. And its also why you don't see specific skill players like knock down shooters as much as you used to. They can't hold up. The Harrisons, Dakari Johnson, Wiggins, Randle, and some others should thrive next year. I worry about James Young a little because he has a finesse game. I think he might have some adjusting to do. He's certainly has the tools to adjust though. Bilas was spot on when he said that the college needs to be called more like the pro game. Or maybe just somewhere in the middle so the level of skill can rise a little bit in the college game.

Well lets put it this way, if UK loses at Georgia then they MUST win the SEC tourney to get in the NCAA. So in that light then yes, Thursday is about as must win as it gets!

  • We are a lock to get in simply bc the tourney field is wilting every day. The sec has to at least get 3! Who the hell gets in other than Florida? Surely it's UK and mizzou. Ole miss is cooked, bama won't scratch, and Tennessee lost out yesterday. Arkansas will be one and done in conf tourney. But, we will be a 10 seed, no play in game.

You've got a lot more faith in the selection committee than I do. I look at them the same way I look at espn, if UK is rollin' then they are all big fans, if we are only mediocre then they are haters. The selection committee will be pleased to leave us on the outside looking in.

Outstanding post. This is exactly what I was saying.

Marquis Teague's nickname was "bulldog". Imagine if this team had him? We're a top 10 squad no doubt.

Very good breakdown on the incoming players too.

The Harrison twins are built for games like we saw yesterday. They are tall enough to see over the press and big enough to take the contact. Mays and Harrow just don't have the strength to take the contact.

If we get a fair whistle against uf at home we have a shot. If its the same whistle as yesterday we're cooked.
