Name 2 plays from last season

  • Been meaning to post this for a while.

Name the 2 plays that stand out from last season,
    1 good
    1 bad
And how it affected the season.

My bad one was the Demarco Robinson fumble. It took the wind out of our sales and really got the boo birds to chirping. Don't know if we would have won that game, but that was a first down with mo on our side and it exposed the risk of having to play true freshman.

My good one was late in the Tennessee game. I think it was 3rd and long and Danny blitzed but they bottled it up, he read that drifted back out following Bray's eyes and deflected a pass that was going to be for a surefire first down. It showed DT instincts and sealed up the UT game. This gave the team a spark that was sorely needed for the offseason and has give a portion of the fan base some fire as well.

I think I go with the 3rd and 10 when UL threw a 20+ yard TD pass to go up 14. Even though they made a late push, 14 pts was too much for a 4th quarter comeback. After some early season struggles I think UK really had confidence issues,

Late 3rd vs UT and they are in the redzone. UK forces a fumble and IIRC they score to go up 10-0.

    Other big plays:

Early in the 2nd vs UT and UK up 3 they block a FG attempt(Dupree?) and the next drive or one after they hold on 4th down inside the 40. UK was able to shut down UT momentum.

  • Bad: UK up 3-0 and driving against UL. On 3rd down Newton passes to King who picks up first down and more but fumbles. UL recovers and takes the lead for good.

Good: Trailing against CMU, the defense makes a 4th and inches stand giving UK the ball on the right side of the 50. Newton then hits King for a TD.

  • I won't go into the bad, as there were an awful lot of plays to choose from. The good play I think stands out to me is the 38 yard TD pass from Maxwell Smith to King in the Ole Miss game. It was in the 4th qtr, and UK was down 13-10. Smith throws a PERFECT ball over King's shoulder in the corner of the endzone for his first TD as a Wildcat. You could tell that Smith was so relieved to throw that first TD, and then the confidence came. We went on to win 13-30...scored 20 points in the 4th quarter. It showed me the potential he had as a QB, and gave us our first conference win.

I'm excited to see Smith this year, as I think his ability and confidence will dwarf what we saw last year.

  • Good the play where Newton was injured forcing Joker to go to Smith at QB

Bad the rookie WRs fumble on the UofL five yard line in the UofL game when he had picked up the first down and UK would have been five yards away from tieing the game.

A close second would be the numerous times Guy was out of position and allowed runners to get the edge and big gains.

  • The King fumble early against Louisville which absolutely killed us for the bad play.

For the good play when Neloms, got a sack fumble touchdown against CMU which completely changed the momentum of that game.

This is my vote...King's fumble was a momentum changer...we were moving the ball and in place to go up 10-0 and he fumbles. If we get ahead and dictate to UL, we could have won that game and that alone could have changed the complexion on the whole season....hell, we'd have been bowl eligible had we been able to flip that game and beat Ole Miss and UT.

Agree with both PHCD. Other potential Bad was in the UL game -- first series I believe -- when Newton threw a screen pass to Clemons who seemed to have a clear path to the end zone when he was caught from behind by the UF transfer that was starting his first game for UL. The Cats kick a field goal, but the momentum is greater when you get the TD on a play/drive like that.

    That's uncalled for.

Agreed, no need for that at all!

You seriously posted this?!? A student/athlete is injured and you see it as a good thing. This shows complete total ignorance on your part. It shows your true colors. Unbelievable how low people will go. Totally disgusted!!

  • Did we score after Roark dropped the pass in endzone?

  • The sack, fumble, td was against JSU.

  • My bad play was when Newton dropped back to pass against (UL I believe) and stumbled, flailed about and finally fell down without anyone touching him. That play seemed to exemplify the struggles we would have at QB all season long.

Thats what I meant. I just remember thinking that this one play could change our entire season for the better.

This. Big difference in being up 7-0 than 3-0. Then add on King's fumble. UofL had the momentun and UK couldn't get it back. A potential 14-0 lead would have forced UofL into caling a different game.
