Neal Brown

  • How would he not be the next OC at UK? If we get Coley, and he comes as an Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator but NOT the Offensive Coordinator...what would be the reason of hiring him for those positions other than the fact that we already have our guy in mind?

    JCHS02

  • Brown won't be our OC if he's not the guy Stoops wants to hire. If he is, Brown will likely come, but maybe not. Maybe he's happy where he is, or maybe he gets a HC job somewhere. Wait and see at this point.

I think Louisiana Tech may be looking at Brown to replace Dykes.
But, I would really love for us to get Brown as OC and Coley as Assoc Coach/recruiting coord

  • Like I've said...Texas Tech fans aren't too enamored with him and seem to be ready for him to GTFO.

Maybe they're wrong but, again, give me recruiting over gimmicks any day of the week.

  • To win big you have to be able to get tough yards. Their loss to Baylor was a good example of how the mumme system is not well suited for tight games. Ever wonder why la tech keeps losing close games?

I like throwing it around, but to win big you have to be able to run the ball and get tough yards and play physical. Running "yards" or attempts does not equal " physical".

Yeah, with the Air Raid, you have to raise your hell in the open spaces between the 20's and try to score from long distance. Too often in the Red Zone, the spread bogs down when the space gets compressed and the D has to cover less territory - espeically if the spread does not come with a power running game and TE's and FB's are sacrificed. I think that's one of the drawbacks of Brown's version.

Spot on. You have to be able to go ounder center and get tough yards when it counts.

Remember the Uk V. UofL game in Jared Lorenzen's first start? We lost because we didn't go under center and we tried to do the qb sneak from shotgun.

I think what you all are forgetting is that his brother, Bod, runs a modified Air Raid Attack as does Texas A&M. Bottom line is Bob has won a National Title and Texas A&M just beat Alabama. You get that system with great players and it is tough to stop. That is why the combination of Stoops, Coley, Brown, Eliott, and 3 or 4 other big time recruiters makes that system great.

  • I wonder if Josh Heupel is in play for OC. He is Co-OC at Oklahoma and is making under $300k I think. It will be interesting with ties that Stoops has to see what comes of this staff.

I'd take time an educate yourself on what Sumlin's offense is and what OU's offense is before comparing it to mumme's system.

Agree. He has to hire someone he's comfortable with. Given his connections, it's not like he won't have ideas about specific candidates.

As much as I'd like to get a local boy into the fold, this has to be about 99% the head coach's decision.

Is this a message board that includes opinions? I am sorry, I guess this isnt...I am not on payroll here like you are sir since you are a professional so I will stop talking now. I am sorry Coach Stoops for trying to make this decision for you by posting on a message board. I hope you dont come at me with a lawsuit for misrepresenting myself. Mitch, please hold my check, I was not trying to be the head coach at UK. Thanks.

  • We will have a great stable of running backs next year..I hope like heck we can use a power running game to wear people down..We will have plenty of depth at that position.

I think there is a need for education, but it is not usa 1000 who needs the education. ):

Kevin Sumlin's offensive coordinator at Texas A & M is Kliff Kingsbury. The same Kliff Kingsbury who was the record setting quarterback at Texas Tech who played for former UK and Hal Mumme assistant Mike Leach.

Bob Stoops' co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Oklahoma is Josh Heupel. The same Josh Heupel who was the record setting quarterback at Oklahoma who played for former UK and Hal Mumme assistant Mike Leach, his offensive coordinator at Oklahoma in 1999.

Kevin Sumlin learned the spread offensive originally from Joe TIller in his stops as an assistant at Wyoming and Purdue. He was the offensive coordinator at both Texas A & M and Oklahoma were they successfully used the spread offense. Sumlin then had all that success as the head coach at Houston and parlayed that into the head coaching job this season at Texas A & M, where they use the ................spread offense.

Sure every coach has his own little tweets for the spread offense, but t is easy to connect the dots and see that at both Texas A & M and Oklahoma, their offenses have the Hal Mumme spread offense influence all over them.

Ask Texas Tech fans about their opinion of Neal Brown and his offense.

Leach was the coordinator for one year at Oklahoma.

  • Anybody with half a brain knows that what OU does now is not the mumme system. They also know that what OU did in their national title year is not/was not the mumme system.

Anybody with half a brain knows that what A&M does is not the mumme system.

Just because you lineup in the shotgun with 3 or more wide receivers does not make it the mumme system. Just because somebody played for somebody who coached under mumme does not mean that they run the mumme system.

If Neal comes to UK Stoops may significantly alter the offense and allow Neal to run the new offense. Hell, we may run Neal's version of mumme's offense. (It is similar, whereas Sumlin's system and OU's system is not) But I highly doubt that Stoops will run the mumme system as we know it. You can't win a BCS conference title with the offense. that's been proven. It's never won a bcs conference title.

Well you made a statement that sounds like Stoops doesn't have a clue on who to hire, and I guess because I didn't see your background with Bear Bryant, it just seemed a little harsh this early in the hire. I'm so sorry and don't worry there's no charge for good information given to those who lack.

  • I really hope Brown is hired along with Coley. Coley's recruiting along with Brown's system could be deadly along with Stoops defense. I can't wait to see how things unfold. Its gonna take some time but I think we might have the right head guy in place this time.

Clearly you misread my statement. Which is pretty hard to do considering its in black and white. I love when people criticize a post and say "it sounds like"...guess what? It doesnt sound like anything. Its a post. If I wanted to criticize Stoops I would have. I wish I could charge you for wasting my time. But that will be a non issue now because I try to not pay attention to those who have such a lack of intelligence.
