Neon Deion Jr!!

  • I say lets all PUSH HARD for UK offering the son of one of the NFL's greatest CB's and all time media magnets! Having Deion Sanders Jr on our team would create an instant media boom in Lex. Imagine having the 1 and only Neon at Commonwealth on gamedays! Im positive this would only help our program..in so many ways..recruiting..Deion no doubt would get every shamless UK and Deion Jr plug in on national tv every chance he got! Heck..Deion Sr might even show up in the spring and show our other db's a trick or two..couldnt hurt at all. Kid says he will 100% committ if we offer..my question is...what are we waiting for? WKU and UCF have already offered, im sure the kid can play..I know he isnt the elite cb his dad was..but who knows..could wind up a player. Even if Deion 2 didnt pan out as a everydown starter..his presence alone..and his fathers..would only help our program. Instant PR dream IMHO...what do you guys out there in the BBn think? Offer or no?
    I think Deion Sr would make an excellent PR spokesperson (unoffically of course) for the BBN..we could see huge recruiting benifits..with his contacts and ties..it could wind up helping out in a major way..but the huge increase in media spotlight alone is worth offering a kid whether he becomes a everydown player or not. Agree/disagree?? I say JUMP on this kid.

  • We all see what Michael Jordan's sons did in college. Just because you're the son of a phenomenal athlete, doesn't mean you're guaranteed to be successful in sports.

    OK..tell me how many kids with thier skill level got that much attention...and that was basketball...Deion Jr was a nationally ranked recruit and had offers from some decent schools..and UCF and WKU offered him this time..

  • As for Deion Sanders, Jr...his best offers were from Houston and North Texas. He is 5'7" and runs a 4.6 40. There's a reason he wasn't heavily recruited. If you go to prep school for a year and your best offers are from UCF and WKU, then chances are, you're still not very good.

    Jeffrey Jordan: He received scholarship offers from Valparaiso and Loyola University Chicago, and was actively recruited as a preferred walk-on by Davidson, Penn State, Northwestern, and University of Illinois. He eventually walked on at Illinois before transferring to UCF.

    Marcus Jordan: Played, and was marginally successful at UCF.

    Point being: you don't recruit a kid based on name recognition alone.

    Agree 110% BBD. Their is no such thing as bad press and having Neon at practice will only make the news over and over again and that helps in recruiting.

    Would be a very smart move.

    So, let me get this straight.

    1. We are not using the staff's evaluation of this kid as the selling point for wanting him on campus. Note: I recognize the staff has chosen to offer, which means something IMO, but that is not the selling point being used.

    2. The rankings by recruiting services is not the selling point being used.

    3. His measurables are not being discussed. Nor is how is body type and skill set happen to fit into what our coaches try to do.

    4. The selling point being used is the kid's offer sheet BECAUSE it includes UCF and WKU rather than saying he is better than his offer sheet due to other factors such as measurables, competition, being unknown and the staff's evaluations.

    5. How important his father's celebrity will be to the program if he comes to play here is being judged..

    I think the logic being used reeks of desperation for some sort of magical solution when no such thing exists. Problems need to be fixed. I don't see there being any measurable gain in positive publicity from a quick shot showing Deion on the sideline watching his kid. I don't see this (his father's celebrity status) as fixing anything.

    I think one of the last things we would want would be for a kid of equal talent (with regard to measurables or recruiting service rankings) to be dropped because his father was not Deion. I think that would make things difficult if returning to the same school or are the next rear and looking for a commit. I think the same can be said for wishing to take a kid not as good as we can get in hopes of landing some other high priority player that is a friend or teammate.

    Just give a kid a fair shake by discussing him based upon HIS merits and give him a big hearty welcome to the BBN if he decides to join.

    You are correct, of course..I was merely saying that...on attention brought to our program alone..he would be worth the offer...after the one guy said kid coudnt play. Deion Jr was a All-American game participant coming out of hs..he is very quick..not a 4.3 burner, but fast twitch jitterbug quick..Im just saying having his father as a UK football supporter would be super nice..lots of instant press...help in recruiting mabye..ect ect! I 100% agree with your comments romp!

  • No thanks. As an SEC school, we can and should do better than recruit kids based on their name and attention signing them may bring.

    No..but he has said he would 100% commit if offered. The kid was a All American game participant. I dont expect him to be an everydown corner..but the positive media boom could be huge for Cats.
