New Draft Express Mock Draft

  • Of interest to Kentucky fans:

    1. Noel
    15. Alex Poythress
    18. Archie Goodwin

WCS is not included because DraftExpress is not projecting him as entering this year's draft.

  • WCS will make a greater NBA impact more quickly than anyone on UK this year (unless Noel heals very quickly).

If someone finds out whatever happened to poythress and fixes it he'd have a better impact

  • Said in another thread but more appropriate here, especially with Poythress being projected outside the lottery I'd be surprised if Cal encouraged him to leave at the end of the season. Some guys just aren't ready at the end of 1 season and Poy is one of those kids.

  • Guy is a mediocre player at the college level against a mediocre SEC. He can barely ever create a shot inside against college players. He'll be eaten alive in the NBA (Poythress, I mean). He's NOWHERE near ready. Terrence Jones can barely get minutes at all after 2 years of college. Poythress might not even get a roster spot. I'd D League him if he was on my team and hope he makes the team eventually which I'd have small hope for frankly.

WCS could contribute and has potential to be pretty decent backup center, I think. Goodwin needs to get better, but I guess he could become a decent player if he put his mind to it. He's way behind where Teague or Bledsoe were in their freshman year. Nobody else is near ready for NBA.

  • It would be interesting to see where these guys would be projected in a really solid draft top to bottom. In a good/great year they are 2nd rounders.

  • I'm going to just assume all 4 frosh are gone and be pleasantly surprised if any chose to return.

    A. Poythress either enters this year or waits till after his Junior season. He has shown little improvement over his HS days and next year's draft is loaded at the SF (his NBA spot).

    Hermits have no peer pressure.

  • WCS is a physical freak of nature. He certainly has the strength, the body and the motor to be a phenomenal NBA player. If he continues to progress he will be the best of all of them, possibly just as good (if not better) than Anthony Davis. But he's got to have the drive and the work ethic to get there. He's super raw talent. You just don't see athletes like that who are as tall as he is. I would wager that in 5 years he will be the better NBA player when you compare him and Noel. Poythress and Goodwin will get drafted but won't stick around past their initial contracts, IMO. Harrow might as well stay all four years, be a stellar backup and get his degree. He's going the coaching route if he wants to stay in basketball.

  • Matt Jones said today that a "great" source told him that, as of today, ALL freshmen other than Noel will be back next year. Harrow will not be back & we will not sign Wiggins.

I just don't believe that any sources really know to tell ya the truth. Maybe I'm wrong I just don't think these intentions have been known. I doubt the kids even know what they want to do. They won't know til after NBA workouts are done and they've had time to talk it over with their families.

I tend to agree. I am extremely confident Archie Goodwin is leaving for the NBA and it's more than just an opinion. If Jones' source is saying Archie is planning to return, it makes me seriously question every other piece of information he was given.

I really hope Jones is right about all of this stuff, but I'm very skeptical, and at a minimum I think he's making claims about 2 or 3 weeks too early.

I'm sure they all know what they'd *like* to do. They need to get some feedback and see if it's even feasible to consider at this point. I guarantee you that if they are a lottery they are going to go (and rightfully so, it's too much to risk to come back, IMO).

The X factor is Harrow. I don't think he likes Calipari and I don't think he's going to take well to competition at his spot. It would be interesting to think of him leaving, but if he does I think he would have to be done or play at an NAIA school. He's obviously not NBA material.

  • Years of experience proves Jones is an uniformed jacka$$. It would be a reversal of tradition for him to be correct about this.
