New Video Board Specs

  • Hey guys, this might be public knowledge, but I wasn't sure. One thing we can all be thankful for is the fact that UK isn't gonna take the easy and cheap route for the new video boards. In fact, all of the panneling around the screens and current screens will be removed. They will then bring in 2 new screens that will fill up both of the boards currently in CWS. The new boards will be slightly smaller than Miss St's, but much larger than most of the other screens in the SEC. Rest assured, they will look pimp and really stand out since CWS is not that large of a stadium. A new sound system AND the new interactive ribbon board will all be in place by game 1 as well. It's a really good first step to adding "personality" to CWS.

  • No, it's not public knowledge. The plans for the upgrade are state secrets.

  • This sounds nice! It's been a long wait. Cannot wait to stomp the dirty birds in Commonwealth.

  • I love that the new boards are gonna be big but that ribbon board should be the real kicker. If they do it right that should really make CWS stand out. I'm so pumped for this season!

  • Thanks for the information. CWS should be lookin' GOOD this year.

  • They sound great, and we sure needed them badly, but what is a "ribbon board"?

    msdcatfan

  • Its the smaller "scoreboard" that goes around some of the levels at the stadium announcing scores and updates, things like that.

So we are removing the cirlce of honor?

I doubt it will be removed, most likely the names will be located elsewhere within the stadium, possibly at the top, which would seem like the most likely move.

I had wondered about that. They may very well need to be relocated.

They could also put up banners in the concourses surrounding the stadium to give those areas a little more attractive.

Program the boards to show a electronic version. I can't remember, another SEC Stadium has done this. I think Neyland.

That would be great as a default setting. It can show that the entire pregame and whenever they take a break from showing stats and score updates.

Yes, Circle of Honor will be gone. UK is working on some ideas regarding how to honor those guys that are part of the C.O.H.

  • They need to make the open space at the end of Nutter a shrine something like the Yankees have in CF. Maybe not bronze statues but maybe a monument or something of the like. Maybe even a "wall" type thing where they could put a picture and bio or something.

Build a limestone wall "ring" outside the stadium and engrave it with the honorees. Make a video of it and show it on the big boards.

  • That could be pretty cool DA. Don't see anything this grand happening any time soon if ever, but if I was king for a day, I would do this: take up the parking lot between the west end zone and university drive (currently part of the red lot). In the middle, put the limestone ring you speak of. A sidewalk would run from university thru the ring to the west end zone. On either side of the ring would be grassy areas with trees. These area would be open tailgating and for big group tents. The cat walk would run right thru this area, thru the ring. Open tailgate area would be wired with outdoor outlets to accommodate tv's out there. Pre game and post game show could be done in this area. Possibly a space for the band to play pregame. The recruiting room would be built over the middle of the west end zone overlooking this area (including an outdoor patio on the back) so recruits could look west over the cat walk, red lot, and orange lot areas. This area would be rocking before, and assuming the cats win, after big games.

I noticed at the spring game that they had painted around the bottom of the stadium walls, CM Newton field wasn't on there, wonder if they might move the ring of honor down to there?

I agree with everything you said Jeremy. IIRC Joker and Mitch alike have discussed the possibility of a recruiting room overlooking the field. Add the patio area overlooking the tailgating and cat walk, that's golden my friend. Make it happen Joker!

That isn't new. They just cover the walls up on gameday with those god-awful banners that feature multi-colored blue (not Kentucky blue) paintsploshes and white viking horn looking graphics. The walls look much better at the spring game unfortunately, solid UK blue.

I would like for them to give those walls a limestone facade, replicating the many limestone walls/fences you see driving around Central KY, possibly with ivy growing up them. It would be unique, classy, and give much needed character and charm to the place.

I have emailed Mitch about it in the past (at least a year ago) and he actually responded saying they'd keep it in mind. I don't think I mentioned the ivy then though. Either way it would look great.
