New artwork at Nutter...

  • They are having a few of us writers over to Nutter today to check out the new stuff. I'll try to snap some decent pictures.

Once again your agenda misses the point. Hoptown has been saying that our practice facilities are fine, but Commonwealth needs a lot of improvement. The article that you linked takes into consideration the stadium, and possibly could be the biggest factor in the rating.

Also has Mr Low been in Nutter in the last few years. The raquest ball courts were removed a few years when it was under rennovation.

  • I listen to the kids who actually visit and say (almost to a man) that UK has some of the nicest facilities they have seen.

I dont think DA was saying anything bad. That story was released today. DA is one of the "good guys" here.

Yea, Chris Low obviously hasn't been in a few years if he mentions the racquetball courts. But he doesn't say anything negative about them. Since UK has really good facilites, how good are the facilities at the other schools? Yikes.

Dear lord. Take time to read before you post. Low obviously did NO research when putting this together. The Three raquetball courts were removed when they did a massive renovation to the nutter center about 5 years ago. Give it a rest. or at least bring something factual next time.headslap

lol Yeah, hop and prince would certainly disagree with that!

The racquetball court reference in Low's article came directly from UK's description of the Nutter Center on the www.ukathletics.com website which shows (1) Low wrote the article from behind his desk, not by making any visits (if you look at the rankings of of other conferences, the "ranker" often acknowledged it was an impossible task to rank facilities without touring them); and (2) UK has neglected to update the description of the Nutter Center on the www.ukathletics.com website in the almost two years since the racquetball courts were removed.

Just one more "LOD" bit of information before I leave, UofL was ranked No. 1 for football facilities in the Big East.

Ok... I'll bite. I just found the "facilities" portion of the website.

Here's the link. Where is the mention of the raquetball courts.

Would you please post a link to the mention?

    Thanks

In terms of louisville being #1 in facilities in the Big East. That's like being #1 in africa in non-starvation rate.

I think that's inbedded in their old site. If you google it you probably find that. But if you look for it on the website you end up on the new facilities portion of the site. They still need to take that down.

  • I didn't Google it. I went directly to www.ukathletics.com and clicked on the Athletic Department tab at the top of the page and then clicked on "Facilities" in the sub-menu. It then brings up pictures of all the facilities and links. I clicked on "Nutter Center."

IN the SEC they would still only be #12 or 13... Shows what a difference a conference can make

I found the same thing when I checked it out. If those courts no longer exist, it's incumbent on the website administrator or his boss to fix that up. Have you sent an email to them? If not, I will from work tomorrow. Overall though, despite the fact that recruits have recently had very good things to say about our facilities, the SEC is an arms race and we are still way behind.

And although we agree on that, the fact that Andrea Adelson thinks UL has the #1 facilities in the BE has little to no bearing on UK's facilities in the SEC. Even if the list were somehow objectively accurate, it is tempered to a large degree by the fact that #2 on the list is a program that has been playing Division IA ball for a whopping 10 years.

Congratulations, UL. You have better facilities than UCONN, who was Div IAA in 2001.

Edit: I just looked it up, Nutter has 500 more square feet of weight room than UL does, and 80,000 (!) more lbs of free weights. We win the prize!

  • Having obsolete facility information listed on UK's website is the exact attention to detail many are used to football receiving from this Athletic Department. Glad you are going to on your own work on fixing that JDH. Shame that a fan has to bring that to their attention.

Also a shame that this AD didnt quickly and angrily respond to correct Chris Lowe. 13 out of 14 SEC AD's for damn well would have, they would not have let ESPN promote incorrect and damaging information about their football program without correction. Guess Mitch has been on a bus ride with some revenue-subtracting sport, and too busy to do that maybe.

A follow-up question to the kids may be, 'what other schools' facilities have you seen in comparison?'

Maybe JDH can get them to replace Ryan Tydlacka with Demarco Robinson in the stats as the leading receiver in the spring game?

Mitch's response to the ESPN articles was the media tour...

You all may not like the rankings and dispute/deny them, but ESPN has a much broader audience than Catspause and perception is reality - it's just another blackeye for UK and a "win" for UL. So far we're 9th in recruiting budget and 13th in facilities. What else will ESPN rank?

I don't even know who plays football in the big east anymore. UCONN? USF? WVU is gone, which ALWAYS out classed UL in facilities. TCU would have too, but they are in the big 12 now. Rutgers? i mean it is comical.

It was a response though, right? I mean, affirmative action to dispute the perception that UK has poor facilities? Something that was prompt, immediate, and responsive to the assertion?

I didn't see any explosive response from A&M's AD, 11th out of 14, or SC's AD, 12th. Both of those teams were way down the list, but I see far more "Wow, Low doesn't know what he's talking about" posts from their fans.

Why the assumption that Low's list is absolute gospel (or Adelson's for that matter) despite a media tour and comments from recruits who have visited them demonstrating that the facilities are great?

Did you see where I posted that we have a larger weightroom and 5x the free weights in our training facility compared to UL? Are our facilities nicer than any in the BE?
