New twist in Phillips' recruitment

Some Kentucky fans may have gotten a little uneasy if they read one of the tweets from UK commitment Reese Phillips on Wednesday afternoon.

  • I am all for kids enjoying high school, but the selfish part of me wants him on campus ASAP. Doing so is HUGE for a player's development, and places like Bama routinely get a good number of their guys to campus early.

  • I wonder if the timing of the other two guys, Maxwell Smith and Patrick Towles, will affect his decision? May not be the best time to come in.

  • From what I can tell from tape..kid has a quick release..strong arm..nice 35 yard bullet ..athletic enough to escape pressure from one side...and his accuaracy and touch are tops..this is the type of kids that works his ass off and turns out to be better than his higher rated teammates.

  • I don't think this article has been posted before. It came out prior to his receiving the offer from UK. Apparently, Brian Adams is not the only high school QB to excell at baseball. I wonder if this will be a factor in his decision as to whether to enroll early. I have heard of no reports that he is considering baseball in college but I am sure he was looking forward to his senior year on the diamond.

Reese Phillips' patience pays off | timesfreepress.com

Reese Phillips has never flinched under center in a football game, but baseball is a different story -- or at least it was once.

  • Good to hear he is still solid.

I agree Jeff. With Smith still around for a couple of more years. I'm not so sure a couple of years between Towles and Phillips would be a bad thing.

Regardless I think we can all agree that the future sure looks bright at QB. Just hope they all stay healthy and continue to improve.

  • I remember last time people were real excited about two QBs coming in to UK. The twists and turns that occur at this position from game to game, year to year etc make it like a "box of chocolates".

  • Really like this kid. Under-the-radar QB due to the system he plays in, ala Maxwell Smith. Phillips has solid QB skills. With good coaching and time in the system, he will be a very solid QB for UK.

I tend to agree with this.

If it was a situation where UK clearly had no QB at all for 2013 and he had a chance to be the starter if he went through spring drills and played well, I think it's a different story. But that's probably not going to be the case. He should enjoy his youth and friends. You only get one shot at that, and all of us long to be able to experience that again to some extent.

Fantastic point. I would give ANYTHING to be 18 and carefree again.

"18 and carefree again", yes, I would do that again......But, only with the stipulation that if I go back, I get to remember everything that got me to 50.

Yeah or else you'd just make the same old mistakes again.
