Next seasons team

  • I dont know who the coach will be next year....joker? Maybe. A new head man? Probably. All i know is I truly think next yeara team will be a pretty good team for whoever is coaching it. More seasoned talent for sure. Maybe the fact we should have a bowl caliber team next year will help us get a good coaching hire....

  • Our defense will still be terrible unfortunately.... But yes, we will probably be better. Still may not be able to beat UL, so might only be 2-1 at this point, which we are a point away from this season and the coach is already fired in the fan's eyes... Good luck to the next guy, hope he does not lose a close one early and end up 1-2, he will be fired before he finishes his first season.

    Defense will be better because it will have more experience. How much better no one knows? Another thing, schemes matter. I read an article on JD Harmon he other day, he actually said the defense was actually harder to learn than the offensive plays. That says a lot to me. When you have such a young defense why complicate things so much. Minter should know better with his experience?

  • I guess I do not know as much as I thought about football, but I think our D is terrible because we do not have good players in the right positions, not schemes. I just think they will be forcing the same square pegs in round holes next year, regardless the scheme. I hope I am wrong, because our offense will be very good next year if we can replace the 2 OLineman.

  • But then I look at our Offense, and start to think it's the same old story, and we will be even younger next year:( We will lose our top 2 WR in King and Boyd, and our top 2 OL, and top RB. We may be young on the roster, but not too many are playing much, whereas next year they will be.... I hope they play all the young kids as much as possible as this season progresses, and hopefully win some damn games along the way!!! (maybe 4 in the SEC, it would be a miracle, I know...)

  • I still think this season is not over.... UL is a good team that beat us, and we lost a close one to a good Western team (yes, we should have never gotten so far behind, and it was a bad loss), but I still think we can win the following conference games:

    Miss St.
    @Arkansas
    @Mizzou
    Vandy

    Maybe
    @UT

    These teams would not smash (or maybe even beat) UL or Western IMO.

    Joker's job isn't on the line because of a terrible 1 point loss to Western.

    Very true Nate but it sure as hell didn't help his case. A blow out win would have though.

    No, no it didn't.

  • The schedule looks favorable. I look for Minter's defense to finally click and all of our young guys will have another year under their belt. I'm thinking 9-3.

  • What is funny is the new coach will get all the credit for ALL of the success, where as any hiccups will be blamed on Joker and this staff. I see a funny trend.

    Two out of Five are possible. Remember this is still a very young team. UK is going to take it's licks this season before taking a bigger step forward next season.

    Jmo but i dont think Wr or Rb will be the same ole same ole to replace next yr.
    Sweat, Robinson, Collins, are all playing alot 2 are #1's this weekend, would surprise me at all if these 3 ain't somewhere 1-4 top receivers by yrs end.
    Rb i love Shik and George, running the ball downhill style & Sanders catching the ball out of the back feild.
    I know we have no idea how Clemens will be when he gets back but in my mind hes still our true starting tailback, he will be what red shirt sophomore next yr? And in Sanders will be back slong with DaShawn and Taylor. I dont think thats much of, if any of a drop off at Wr or Rb.
    Sorry not sure what George's class is but if he back as well shit get us a center, guard, and a Defense and next yr should be grate.
    It all boils down to Defense, just like it has in the 1st 3 games.

    Unfortunately that's just how things go.

  • OP. I agree. The only thing that may hold us back is if we totally change schemes, but I do believe we'll be a bowl game team no matter who is coaching.

    QB - All return
    RB - Lose Shik, but still have George, Clemons, Mobley, Sanders, Taylor, etc.
    WR - Loss of King is the only real loss. Sweat, Robinson, Collins, etc will all be back
    TE - All back
    O-line - the left side is back. the biggest concern about next yr's offense is replacing the C, RG.

    DT - All return
    DE - Lose Ukwu and Wyndham, but have a bunch of more talented guys with another yr of experience
    LB - All return and maybe they will actually know their assignments?
    Secondary - will lose some, but we are playing so many young guys now that I hope it couldn't get any worse for next yr.

  • I think next years defense will be fine if we can get better DE and CB play. These LB's, Saf's and DT's will be ok, they are green as hell and a couple have never played the spot. Kids like Miles and Josh were never in the box in HS like Winston. Dupree and Malcom played more of a DE role, Avery played ILB and he will be better but he wasn't ranked in the top 50 MLB's, Khalid will be good once he matures and adjusts to the speed. Rancifer is still a good option as well. Like I said the secret to next years defense IMO will be if we can finally replace Lindley and Warfod... Harmon is big and physical but he lacks recovery speed just like Dixon. I think Harmon will be a good boundary corner with help over the top because he can tackle but we need someone to step up and hold the field corner down, that's a huge concern if Caffey doesn't get his shit together... At the end of the day college teams don't need 1000 pages of defense, Rick has over schemed this defense and it's killed them... Randy and Joker getting away from the run during spring and fall camp to try to get better at passing the ball has also hurt our run defense.

  • If Joker is retained we will be a much improved team next year. If a new coach is hired, the experience that our young guys are getting this year will all be for naught and they will have to start over learning the new coach's system. Some will succeed, some will not, some will leave.

    Suchy500

  • Entirely too early for speculation on next season as noone has any idea what players will still be here a year from now, nor who our coaches will be

    JHB4UK

  • This thread is by far the most decent on here lol...listen, im not saying that I think joker should or should not coach next year, matter of fact im torn in that decision. But, as a fan of uk football I also understand that we as fans have the power to turn our pure speculation into the truth in the eyes of potential recruits. WE must be careful to not shoot ourselves in the foot for any possible recruiting success, which im aware has been limited lol, in the case that joker still has the reins. Im not saying go fill the seats of commonwealth because I for one am not happy either. But let's take a step back and see how the cards fall if were unsuccessful the seats will be empty and things will take care of themselves if not, must have been a hell of a year... GO CATS
