  • Overall record. 75-26

    Bowl Games 4-2

Gator Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl

Record building a team. Arkansas 2008-5-7
    2009- 8-5
    2010-10-3
    2011-11-2

Anyone who thinks this man can't coach is just foolish. And as far as his problems off the field we tend to forget that America elected a President that got a BJ in the Whitehouse and gave the giver a job and then lied about it on National TV.

Lets all get off the moral horse for a while and have a real football team.

You had me until the Clinton remark...and I'm a conservative.

I would take Petrino if he could start Wednesday.

  • We heard the same moaning from the peanut gallery prior to Calipari being hired. If UK does hire Petrino everyone will settle down in short order once he starts winning. I seriously doubt he would give us the time of day, but still, it's worth a shot.

If the powers that be put their money where their mouthes are he might. He needs a job and we need to win. I'm tired of this crap. Save a couple of cheating Mummy years and some Brooks' years I've grown up with a censored football program. I don't want to relive the Curry days. If that's the road we're going down then I'm finished with college football until that changes.

I just said I think Barhart should be fired in another thread. If he gets to make this hire then he has one last strike in my book and if he messes it up he should never be aloud to step foot in this state again.

  • You do understand that he would leave UK in the middle of the first game in his first season if he could. The guy knows no shame.

  • Petrino is a damn good football coach but It's all irrelevant because he'll likely score a better job anyways.

  • Guys, me best advice is to give this up. Petrino will NOT even get a call from UK if the current president and AD are involved. I know this for a fact. I witnessed a media member ask Mitch "off the record" if he would ever consider Petrino if the UK job were to open up for any reason. Mitch looked at this individual with a completely baffeled look and then started belly laughing and asked "man, are you out of your mind?" . He then went on to say that under no circumstance would Bobby Petrino ever get a phone call as long as he was UK's AD.

He may or may not, but I think the bigger programs may look at the hiring of an unqualified employee with University funds. I don't think the affair is his major problem. I think his misappropriation of funds is the toughest thing to get past. However, if he is truly making changes and can still recruit I think he needs to get a good look by UK.

c'mon, he hired someone he was in or had been in a personal relationship to a job he controlled. Do you know how many coaches all across the country in every sport have hired sons onto their staffs who more than likely were not the most qualified candidates for their positions? How many fathers hired their boys, Bob Knight, Steve Spurrier, Paterno, Beamer, Pitino, Bowden....you going to tell me every one of them were the most qualified and would have been hired if their last name were different?

Oh, and didn't Mitch get into some trouble by the way he attempted to hire his daughter to a graduate assistant position within UKAA last year?

Petrino is the very best coach that UK could ever hire at anytime in our recent history. Heck yeah he has warts, if he didnt there would be zero chance he would consider us. Ask any national college football writer or analyst and they think the match is beyond perfect....think I've heard Bruce Feldman say so already, and Paul Finebaum, and Clay Travis, and Stewart Mandell. A terrible program in need of a great coach, a great coach in need of rehabbing his image and currently unemployed....a logical fit, for everyone but some moralistic UK fans, questionably biased local media, and of course our pious mountain climbing AD.

Popular pressure essentially forced Mitch to hire Calipari. Circumstances can change........

  • Even if you shove aside all the baggage that a Petrino hire brings with it, here is what you have to remember:

He would be on the first flight out of Lexington the second a better job opportunity presented itself and then you're back to square one.

I understand the want and need for a quick fix and instant gratification, but it's just not the way to go.

I've stated why I think Petrino won't be as in-demand as projected, but that is just my opinion.

Another thing you have to take into consideration is the absolute nose-dive that both prior college programs took when BP bolted. UL went from being ranked in the top 10 to 6-6 and missing a bowl game. UA has gone from being in the top 10 to losing to ULM and getting shellacked by 'Bama at home.

So the rebuttal "well, when he leaves, we'll be in a better spot" doesn't really apply in this case, at least not based on historical precedent. UA's meteoric rise to 2012 Fulmer Cup champions can't really be ignored either.

this has been discussed. Large contractual buyout. At Arkansas it was $10 million they would be due if another school wanted to hire him away. And it worked, he was not rumored to be a candidate for other jobs during his 4 1/2 yrs there. If he were not willing to sign similar language then your assertion about his motives of comming to UK would be accurate, and UK doesnt hire him.

He was happy at Arkansas, not chasing other jobs, he loves coaching in the SEC. At UK he could do the same at a program not that much dissimilar from Arkansas....without having to bang heads against LSU and Alabama.

    JHB4UK

  • UK being in the East is a bigger selling point than many of us might think. Coaches with an ego see an SEC east that is wide open today.

Which he is going to have to sign if he ever wants to coach again. And he's going to have to agree to a ton of oversight of all of his actions.

  • If things don't change and we continue to take L's when is the earliest Mitch will fire Joker and start the search? Does anyone know who the top 10-20 legit prospects are?

  • The leaving us thing is complete BS. It just is.

He wanted to leave UL when they were in C-USA for either LSU or Auburn. How exactly is that disloyal? That's called discussing leaving a mid major for two of the best jobs in the country. (I know he did it in backhanded fashion, etc.)

He then left the Falcons mid-way through the season. Punk move through and through.

He then got to Arkansas where they made him sign a contract with a huge buyout and was never rumored to be looking elsewhere his entire time there.

Let's also remember Nick Saban lied about taking the Alabama job while in Miami. I suppose if Nick wanted to coach here the same people would be talking about his morality

  • I personally hope that regardless of the outcome of this season, Joker stays for another year or two to see what he can do with his latest classes. If he can succeed I believe he can get us to a very high level in the SEC. I also think we owe him as a UK guy, a chance to develope the program he loves. I think Mitch should come out as soon as possible and make tis declaration. At the same time I think Mitch should make an announcement of a huge upgrade to the dorms the players will spend their next 4 yrs in. According to USCjr's AD this really helped their recruiting. I would also announce a renovation of CWS and try to get the fans involved, and motivated to donate to the project. Give the fans what they want most for their stadium. Then I would announce that we will have a competitive football program in 5 yrs period.
Get the renovations underway, evaluate the progress of the team after a couple of years. If after a couple of years, Joker has not made strides, at least you have something positive to offer to a new top notch coach.

I actually agree with this, but it won't happen.

I would, however, make one STRONG recommendation to Joker- Get rid of Minter.
