this has been discussed. Large contractual buyout. At Arkansas it was $10 million they would be due if another school wanted to hire him away. And it worked, he was not rumored to be a candidate for other jobs during his 4 1/2 yrs there. If he were not willing to sign similar language then your assertion about his motives of comming to UK would be accurate, and UK doesnt hire him.
He was happy at Arkansas, not chasing other jobs, he loves coaching in the SEC. At UK he could do the same at a program not that much dissimilar from Arkansas....without having to bang heads against LSU and Alabama.

I know my opinion will be chastised by some, but I am a very conservative person, who concentrates on problem solving using my head instead of my heart. I believe this thing can be handled in a way to give Joker the very best shot possible, because I truly believe it is the most direct path to where everyone wants to get to. I believe the USCjr AD in his statements made available by another poster. I truly believe Mitch wants what we all want but knows it will not happen overnight or with just a new hire. To position this program to where it has the best chance to succeed, an integrated approach is what is needed. I have thought about this to a great degree. If this makes me hilariously delusional then so be it. I tend to believe it makes me wise, patient, and mature. I do not believe in hope and change.

Not that much dissimilar from Arkansas?
Arkansas has a 10% higher all-time winning percentage than UK (58% to 48%). They've been to nearly three times as many bowl games as UK ... with nearly twice as many bowl wins. Arky has 8 times as many all-time conference championships as UK with multiple SEC West championships and multiple appearances in the SEC Championship game. They've had 12 10+ win seasons while UK has had 2.
While Arkansas is not historically an SEC power to the level of the Bamas and LSUs ... their football history and tradition is still immensely better than UK's.

c'mon, he hired someone he was in or had been in a personal relationship to a job he controlled. Do you know how many coaches all across the country in every sport have hired sons onto their staffs who more than likely were not the most qualified candidates for their positions? How many fathers hired their boys, Bob Knight, Steve Spurrier, Paterno, Beamer, Pitino, Bowden....you going to tell me every one of them were the most qualified and would have been hired if their last name were different?
Oh, and didn't Mitch get into some trouble by the way he attempted to hire his daughter to a graduate assistant position within UKAA last year?
Petrino is the very best coach that UK could ever hire at anytime in our recent history. Heck yeah he has warts, if he didnt there would be zero chance he would consider us. Ask any national college football writer or analyst and they think the match is beyond perfect....think I've heard Bruce Feldman say so already, and Paul Finebaum, and Clay Travis, and Stewart Mandell. A terrible program in need of a great coach, a great coach in need of rehabbing his image and currently unemployed....a logical fit, for everyone but some moralistic UK fans, questionably biased local media, and of course our pious mountain climbing AD.
