Notre Dame to Big 12?

  • Rumors going wild that ND will be joining the B12 in all sports except football.

    Not so fast... ND continues to try and stall and remain an Indy... Will they eventually join a conference in FB or will they continue on their current path raking in millions and becoming more obsolete with pathetic to average football? Their current TV contract isn't over till 2015 so we have a few more years of speculation.

  • would be awesome if they went to the big 12 in football too and kept the dirty birds out. Not that I really care, but I do enjoy watching them squirm.

  • yeah, that would be awesome to have them go to the B12 and keep UL from being able to go. It's funny. The B12 desperately want anyone other than UL it seems. Meanwhile, UL is acting like they are all that and a bag of chips... They are too stupid to realize that they are the closing hour, drunk, last second desperate pickup that you know is a sure thing. lol.

  • Allegedly this move is not so much about the B12 getting ND, but preventing the ACC from getting the Doamers. Then as a result Florida State and maybe another ACC school like Clemson will see that their conference isnt going to get stronger, and look to join the B12 as well.

    UL was considered a long time ago and deemed not worthy by the B12. Very funny how many of their 'insiders' strut around saying it is a done deal that they are going to the B12 when the truth is they could have been invited for almost a year now - and it hasnt happened. Why, because the B12 knows they can do better, and if not just stick at 10 instead of settling for a lesser program.

    How's Charlie & his staff gonna explain them staying in the Big East to ALL the recruits this past class and this upcomming class that the promise of playing Big 12 football rather than CUSA 2.0 they have been spewing was a complete lie?

  • If Texas weren't such raging douches about their business deals the Big 12 would easily be the second best conference. Nebraska would have stuck around (who cares about Missouri, really) and they would be more likely to pull in such big names as Florida State and Miami. And I would love to see that because I grow so unbelievably tired of the Big Ten's academic narcissism.

  • ahem, back to the topic we were discussing....

    Don't think ND to the ACC with no football works based on their TV contract structure. Tier III rights are completely owned by ESPN, for B12 those are free for each school to sell. However it would work quite nicely with the B12, hello Longhorn Network. ND could go to the B12 in everything but football now, or even down the road if they joined they could do their own version of the LHN with their buddies at NBC.

  • Until The Irish man up and join a conference in football, who cares where their other sports compete. If they don't get on board, they will be left behind when the 4 super conferences form.

  • All the commissioners of the other power conferences (SEC, B12, B10, ACC, and PAC) should come together on the Notre Dame football issue. They should all agree that nobody will offer Notre Dame conference affiliation in any other sports unless football is also included. This would leave ND 2 options. Either stay in the Big East in all sports except football, or join a major conference in all sports, including football.

    If that won't/can't happen, then all the conference commissioners should be sure to exclude any independent teams from the new 4 team playoff format. Even further, I'd like to see all the coaches and AP writers refuse to vote for any independent teams in the polls. They should also be excluded from participation in any existing bowls. If Notre Dame, BYU, Army, and Navy want to remain independent they can go form a new bowl just for the top 2 independent teams each year.
