OK, what are you guys hearing about UK Football Season Tickets?

  • LOTS of stories going around right now about the lack of season ticket renewals with regards to UK Football. What are you guys hearing?

I had 10 tickets under my name that consist of my wife and myself and 4 other couples. Of the 10 tickets, only 3 were renewed (myself, my wife, and one guy who is ditching his wife this Fall). As a result, I've had no less than 4 calls from UK trying to bribe my into renewing. Tactics? The 2nd call a young lady informed me that I've been "upgraded" to be eligible for a parking pass if I renew all 10. I explained that we only wanted 3 this year. After one additional call, the 4th one was the worst. They told me that "we are allowing fans to purchase tickets on a payment plan this Fall." "Put down just $100 today, and you can wait until the season starts to begin making payments on the rest of the tickets."
Never heard anything like that before.

As for our group, we all travel from Louisville and Paducah. The people that decided not to renew are simply overcome with apathy. First time in 12 years they've decided not to renew. Some of the guys make a good point, they'd rather just pick 1 or 2 games a year to attend and be able to stay home and watch great football on TV in the man caves the other weeks.

Anyways, season tickets were down 10% last year compared to the previous season. Rumors have it that this year is looking dramatically worse as of last week. Lets be conservative and just say it's another 10% drop, that's a 20% drop in 2 years. Can and will UK stay the course?

    What are you guys hearing?

  • I didn't renew this year. Will be the first time I haven't had season tickets since 1997 (my sophomore year at UK; I'm counting that since I went to all of the games). I've had 3 tickets and my roommate from UK took my other 1 so that's been 4 for me in the same section since 2003. My reason is not apathy, but the fact that we are having a new baby in the next few weeks with a 2 year old son already. I plan on choosing a couple of games and going this year and then getting tickets again next year after my son will be old enough to go with me. I just can't see leaving my wife this year with 2 little kids while I go watch football. Does that automatically revoke my man card ?
Plus, new baby expenses make paying for all of those tickets and k fund prices this year seem excessive.
I'm part of the statistic this year but not because of apathy.

  • The one bright spot in UK FB that everyone liked to brag about was the top 25 fan base in the country. Guess that won't be the case anymore. So if we were to go 6-6 this year a bowl bid may not be a done deal.

  • My buddies and myself have had 11 seats for several years now, some going back to pre 2000. We decided not to renew this year, and I have had several calls since they are all in my name. Too much money to spend to watch the current product imo. When/if changes are made, we will renew and/or upgrade our seats. Not going to badmouth or even comment on the current situation, but we will wait and see what happens in the future. I don't blame anyone renew/not renew, its their money and their decision.

That's actually the mature reason to not renew, imo. Congrats on the new baby biggrin

  • We get it. You want as much negativity around the program as possible.

  • Thanks!

Maturity is definitely not fun ! Expect for the new baby part!

So, have you tried to get season tickets prior to this year and been told none were available?

What I don't understand is that when you had your season tickets starting in 2000 UK was horrid, I mean UK was just horrid for most of those yrs and now all of a sudden they are not worth watching. lol.
how is UK worst now thanin 2000 ?????????

  • Thanks guys. The more of you that don't renew, the better my chances of finally getting my parking pass.

Don't know about him but yea the season tickets that were available over the past few yrs were not great seats. Now maybe we will be able to move to better seats. so keep up the good work and do not renew. It will help me get better seats. thumbsup

"What are you guys hearing?" Seriously? The guys "here" read the same message boards that you read....and that's what they "hear". Will UK stay the course? It's pretty damn obvious that if the team shows improvement, Joker will be back. If not, he won't. It's really that GD simple, so you can relax and quit worrying about something you have absolutely zero control over.

As for myself, I am counting the days until practice starts. I love football, and look forward to it every year. I don't have season tickets anymore because I have other obligations that only allow me to come to 2-3 games a year. But if I were retired or lived within an hour or so from Lexington, I would have them and you couldn't put a gun to my head to get me to give them up.

As if you were at the bottom of some insurmountable waiting list or something, gimme a break

if you didnt have season tickets before now it was due to yourself not sacking up and getting them, and nothing else

"Sacking up" likely has very little to do with why people don't have season tickets.

Of course, using any other term isn't nearly as derogatory.

And Hoss is exactly right, you're "hearing" the exact same thing everyone else who reads message boards is. Hopefully, someone will be along shortly to call the season ticket holders "sheep" or somehow suggest that buying season tickets will keep UK from winning game this season or in the future.

Personally, I couldn't care less who renews or doesn't renew. I'll be at the games this fall with the folks who want to support the team, and will limit my exposure to those who do not to message boards.

    JDHLaw11

  • Cant speak about anyone else but my group of five is renewing.

I have a hard time understanding why everyone is so angry that they refuse to renew. If you only got tickets from the 07 season on then maybe i can understand. But if you have had tickets since Bill Curry then why give them up now. Last years team was still better than every Curry season except one.

  • I didn't renew but it had nothing to do with the team or coaching staff. I have an on-going health issue and I just don't know when I'll feel like making the trip to Commonwealth (it's a 4+ hour drive one way).

I still plan to take in as many games as I can but just felt the expenditure for season tix when I may not make but a couple of games was just unnecessary.

Cost became an issue with me. $2900 for four tickets, and the home schedule included Western, Samford and Kent State? No, sorry, but no.

I disagree. "People" who do NOT support the program are exactly the ones I expose myself to....as often as possible.

  • BTW....To get back on topic, people have to be dropping their tix. After having season tix for 10 yrs (sans parking pass), the wife and I finally "qualified" for a parking pass this year.

I agree jawjacker, I have two sons who have wanted season tickets forever in a decent spot so I'm sad for those hit by the economy but glad for my kids.

Nope.... never had the income to afford tickets until this year.

    Is that an acceptable answer?
