OK, what are you guys hearing about UK Football Season Tickets?

That's very true, but young men are still impressionable. I would trust Joker and Co Far more than Petrino for example. I'm assuming by your username you understand what service to our country can do for a young mans character as well. Joker is genuinely concerned about these young men. There are several other coaches I would probably trust as well, but at my house we wear blue ;)

    Assumption = Confirmed

Congratulations on sporting the Blue attire!!!

Wow Frustration over one losing regular season out the last 6 and you are throwing in the towel. That is a reason to cancel season tickets? ARE YOU A Front runner and a quitter??

You ignore the steady downhill trend since the 8-5 years and choose to dismiss a dismal bowl performance after the 2010 season. Net, u've skewed your data to meet your needs.

I'm neither of your limited options. There are others.

  • Btw, our head football coach was partying last night at the Landmark Inn in Pikeville last night. Wasn't recruiting any football players, thats for sure. The kicker from Pikeville that was going to walk on I believe got a ride to Marshall.

We had no QB last year. Started a guy that couldn't throw a 5 yard slant, and then had to rely on freshman. Of course we got humiliated and struggled.

And who do you hold accountable for that sad state of affairs? Or do you just let the perps off the hook?

We haven't won 8 games in the regular season this decade. The "steady downhill trend" has been from 7 wins (and a bowl win/loss) to 5 wins last year. No-one disputes that the team has taken a step back, but we haven't gone that far downhill. Certainly not taking into account the good things the team has done lately.

You suggesting that someone has "skewed data" to meet "needs" is ridiculous. His statement is legitimate. One regular season under .500. Is that fact somehow skewed?

You say that there are other options, I'm interested to know what you call yourself.

You are wasting your time as well as brain cells trying to find a means of communication on their level in order to explain what the rest of us already know. Hey refuse to accept fact. They refuse to use common sence. All your doin my friend is getting a bit closer to carpatunel on a group of haters simply not worth the time or effort.

Thats about a ridiculous post. It happens period. Your not gonna have a great QB every year. Your not gonna have Hartline as a Senior, or Woodson. We recruited two 4 star QB's and neither panned out. Its just the breaks sometimes. Even the great SEC teams have been through it.

  • Jokers job status being up in the air whether real or imaginary is hurting UK on the recruiting trail.

If Joker is the guy then extend him another 2 years giving him 5 years and allow him to recruit. He is being handcuffed at this point in time.

Word the contract to protect UK and to make sure Joker gets his $$ if he isn't around the length of the deal.

If joker is the guy put him on the same ground as other SEC coaches. UK already screws themselves enough with the bonding issue. Don't let others use your coaches job status against him.

    bigbluemist

  • Here is my 2 cents.

UK is in the SEC and to determine if the program is headed in any direction all you have to do is compare wins and losses against SEC teams. The fact is UK has not had a winning SEC record since the days of Fran Curci which is 30+ years. Now in 2011, the SEC has added Missouri and Texas A&M and it looks like the conference may add a few more teams in the future. To be competitive UK needs to act now and not wait if they do not want the program to always be behind the new teams that are added. The future is now and fans want no more excuses from anyone. That, I think, is way so many people are upset. But that has nothing to do with Joker. I have said on here many times that the deck was stacked against Joker when he was offered the job because no coach will make it at UK without support and that means upgrades to everything football related. Thats means cash, donations, recruiting rooms, film rooms, weight rooms, whatever SEC teams have, UK must have as well. 100's of million of dollars are needed if you want a SEC football team no matter who is the coach. Let me say that again. No matter who is the coach.

Unless some on here are just brain dead, the "only" way to determine success is in wins and losses. Barnhart himself said the same thing so Joker must win to remain at UK. Now how many years he should be allowed to stay is whatever but since UK has not had a winning record in SEC play for so long saying that 2-3 years is enough time is just foolish. Joker or any coach needs time and in my mind that should be 5 years. The coach in waiting was a move that upset a lot of football fans. Putting a first year coach into the SEC in a lot of people's minds was not the way to move the program ahead but like it or not, Joker is the coach of the University of Kentucky. It is not about supporting Joker, or Barnhart, its supporting your state school and if you are an alumni like me, its simple UK is my team, period

As far as season tickets are concerned, if you want them, buy them. If you think that by not going to the games makes your voice heard thats fine, stay home. If you think that by going to the games that you are showing support for Joker thats fine to. My point is that the driving force behind season tickets is probably more personal economics than your opinion or who is coaching at UK.

Beat Louisville is what everyone should be saying instead of talking about season tickets.

  • Question- How far apart were UK and South Carolina in regards to football success just 10-12 years ago?

    MinterWonderlnd

  • You know HotDice at the end of the day it's about talent. Now the chicken or egg theory is where this debate will continue to rage on,

Will new /better facilities get the talent to win in the SEC? Or, does UK need better talent to win games the catch up with the SEC in regards to facilities?

I was listening to a radio show last week and they were congratulating a guy on his new son. As the host said, "may he be healthy and blessed with SEC speed."

  • Its like when I lived in Kentucky. I loved to go grouse hunting and raised Brittany Spanials to hunt them. I must have reared 4-5 dogs before I got the best one who won field trial after field trial when he was 9 months old against much older dogs. He was special for no reason other than he was a natural.

I think recruiting football players is a lot like that for UK. A lot of hit and miss but one day when the stars are alligned. UK will be a SEC team. One day the state of Kentucky will produce the football "unforgetables" and the team will be loved by all Kentuckians. Am I dreaming?

I hope not and hopefully that day is right around the corner.

12 years ago, UK was 2-9 while Hal Dumme was driving the program off the edge of a very steep cliff with crippling probation waiting at the bottom.

12 years ago, South Carolina was beating tO$U like a drum in the Outback Bowl.

I'd say that they were light years apart.

    Now I have a question.

TOBC took the job at Carolina from another HOF coach in Lou Holtz. Why did it take TOBC 7 years before he had a season with less than 5 losses?

  • Bottom line, UK football season ticket sales are obviously having some struggles right now, after 2 straight previous years of a decline in numbers. The "what for's" and "it shouldnt be happening's" doesnt really matter, it is what it is.

Hopefully the team can come out and beat UL on Sept 3rd, and Barnhart has to open up the ticket office on Labor Day for those with renewed optimism and excitement for the program.

  • UK was actually ahead of S. Carolina at that point. In 1998 i think they won 1 game. In Lou Holtz' first year they went winless. But they got a hall of fame head coach and he got the ball rolling a little bit. Not the results they wanted but he made improvements. Then the ole ball coach came along and now they are competing for SEC East championships. So no they wasn't that far apart.

True. We were 5-3 against South Carolina in the first 8 meetings (1992-99)

We won in 1998, then went to Columbia in 1999 and won 30-10, in a game that was not that close (I was there). Next year, 2000, they went from 0-11 to 7-4, and beat us 20-17 in a game that Kentucky controlled but couldn't score in the red zone allowing USC to pull the upset.

But the programs have been going in pretty much opposite directions ever since. No two ways about it.

  • I wonder what Coach Rich Brooks could have done with SC's recruiting base. They obviously pump out a lot more SEC player than Kentucky does. Really wish we could have held on to David Sims.

That would be 14 years instead of 12, which was Minterwonderland's timeline. 12 years ago, UK was a dismal 2-9 and headed for NCAA probation, while Carolina was 8-4 and thumping tO$U in the Outback Bowl, which they would follow up the following year with another Outback Bowl win against tO$U and a 9-3 record. The programs were miles apart.

I will ask again, why did it take a HOF coach like TOBC (who was handed the program by another HOF coach in Lou Holtz) 7 seasons to finally have a season where he lost less than 5 games? I've asked this question elsewhere and no one ever seems to have an answer.

See my post above, after the 2000 season, UK still led USC 5-4 since they joined the SEC, and they barely beat us by three in a game we should have won that year. And we had just been to the Music City Bowl and Outback Bowl in two previous seasons, and produced the no. 1 choice in the NFL draft. So while it may be fair to say that at the end of the 2000 season, they had a very surprising good record, and we had a very disappointing bad record for that one year, there is no way can you seriously say the programs were "miles apart" at that point.

Not sure I can help you with the 2nd question, I don't follow S. Carolina close enough to have an informed opinion.

They have to recruit against an ACC power inside their state over their recruiting base. We struggle to outrecruit our instate CUSA/Big East/Conference-to-be-determined foe.
