Offense for 2013.

  • Really excited to see Neal Browns version of the Air raid this fall.Hes made no attempt to hide the fact he will look to run the ball more than in the past.
Max Smith will be our QB barring further injury. Kid is special. Smart, has a strong accurate arm..the job is his to lose IMO. Towles will be pushing him very hard.

Rb will be by commitee again. Clemons, Mobley,Sanders,George..along with Justin Taylor and any 2013 commits will fight for carries. Dont rule out some production from potential walk on Te'Vaughn Hurse..who at 5'7 192..ran a 10.43 100m rehabbing from a broken ankle. I would like for 2 of the rb's to step up and demand more carries..I just think having 2 "top" backs helps with timing and consistency.
Our WR's should be a treat to watch. Sweat,LeGree,Collins,Robinson are all capable playmakers with different skill sets. Im assuming we land Timmons..and RT will bring a ton of speed and make you miss to bear. Javess Blue and Yancey will help as well. IF we get lucky and flip Samples or land Janarion Grant..well..we would then be in pretty good shape at WR.
Look for some production at TE from Shields and the newcomers. Borden and Dowdell.
OL will be key. And I think we are in pretty good shape here. Miller,Mitchell,West,Love,Nared,Watson,Swindle,Meyers are the leftovers..add to that mix some talented incoming frosh and jucos..IU think our Ol will be decent in year one of the Stoops regime!
The offense should be a welcome sight after having to bear watching last years struggles under randy sanders horrible play calling. Up tempo..mix it up..get the ball to your best playmakers in space. I really think something like 425 yards per game and 28 ppg could be "in the ballpark" of how things turn out.

  • I'm pretty excited about the offense as well. We looked to have a solid one last year before Max went down and I fully expect our young guys to flourish in Brown's simple system. If Sweat makes it he, Collins, Blue, Robinson, and possibly Timmons will make life difficult on SEC secondaries.

I know some of our current backs are built for this offense, but they all bring something different to the table and I believe will be very effective on the ground.

Hopefully Stoops and Eliot improve our defense enough to upset some teams next year, beginning with UL.

You read my mind Nate!! I think Neal's systemis just what the doctor ordered. Just get out of your own way..get the ball to your best athletes in space or 1on1..and let it play out from there. Im so darn glad Randy Sanders wont be around to kill drives with his stupid trick plays and head scratching calls.(Like tossing the ball 5 yards behind the LOS on 4th and inches not once but twice vs UT).

  • Thank god we won't have to see Morgan Newton run sweeps anymore.

  • The offense will be even better this year from day 1 than it was last year when Smith was looking really good. The system is easy to learn and by bringing in a full offensive staff who know the system and not having any learning curve among the coaches will make a world of difference in their teaching to the players.

    I know right?

  • I think an improved offense can create a better defense when they know the offense can score points and not have pressure like past few years, plus having an offense that can stay on the field and give the D a break will be a welcomed change.
