Offense further along in 2012

A year ago Randy Sanders attempted to subtly prepare everyone associated with Kentucky's football team the Cats' offense might struggle in 2011. He feels better about 2012.

  • Really sounding positive. We need better receiving this year. Our defense looks to be our strength, and if we can combine that with a good (not great) offense we might be on to something.

  • Last year the oline was thought to be the strength of the offense. It turned out to have a rough year. This year its probably the weakest link. If they can gel and just be a decent oline then this offense can be good. I think there is a lot more weapons this year.

I agree bigblue. If the noise coming out is true about how our wide receivers are doing, it will be a real difference maker. PLUS, we got nothing from our special teams when it came to scoring last year, I truly believe this will be our BIGGEST change with our team now. Just the threat of scoring from our new guys will be a step up and if they can get us some cheap touchdowns in that area, its benefits the offense and defense.

I forgot how terrible the return portion of the ST were.

    Virtually non-existent.

  • Three starting linemen one of which has not played and the other two very, very little! It will help they have two all SEC caliber starters around them. I will say they have the size and look like SEC linemen!

Working on an O-line story. Senior
center Matt Smith says UK better at
picking up blitzes right now than it was

  • As bad as last year was offensively, I was looking back at some stats and we have had a couple worse seasons, but not many in the modern era. I cannot remember the '94 season all that well, but we only mustered 138 points. Last year in one more game, we had 190, so no matter what changes have been made, I am confident our offense is much further along than last year!! It basically has to be, at least for my own personal sanity, lol....

I think the punt return unit averaged 2-3 yards per return. That can not happen. Abysmal!!

That is pretty accurate, and the season long punt return was 11 yards. Our featured return guy on KO's, Mychal Bailey, average 22 yards per return. Given the rule change this season, that is less efficient than a touchback. Yet another part of the game that we have no choice but to improve upon, not really any room to get worse.

  • I hate to run somebody in the ground, so I will say the the addition of one coach on the offensive side of the ball is going to make a huge difference. He will coach WR and the passing game, which was done in terrible fashion last year. However, that coach could recruit well, so we'll see if this guy can make up for the difference in that area as well.........................I feel really good about our QB situation as of now. its August 19

I agree with you that Washington will have a positive impact on the offense in general this year. He is coming from a lot of different offenses, but most recently/importantly Larry Fedora's spread attack. Plus, he is a huge upgrade in coaching ability versus our WR coach last year. If we run 70 plays on average per game this year, I hope we pass 40. That will be fun. Go Big Blue!!!
