Officials officially blew this game.

  • Yes, we played terrible in second half but they put an 8-12 point swing on the game.

Far too many opportunities to identify abysmal play to blame refs. Kentucky just sucks is going to break a record for all Americans who appeared in the NIT.

  • Officals did not cost uk this game. They got out physicaled, pushed around. Alabama wanted it more.

  • UK is awful..just is what it is..quit blaming the refs.

  • I admit. We played bad in second half.

But the officials called a different game in the second half.

Defense isn't hard when you don't have to worry about a foul being called. They held and body checked wiltjer the entire second half.

While Goodwin was out of control at times they mugged him at the bucket no less than 4 times with no calls.

Then add the goal tend call with the two awful out of bounds calls in the last. 3 minutes and you have the officials swinging the game to the tide.
It's not all about specific calls. It's how they call the game. In the first half they called it tight. Bama couldn't body up. In the second? They allowed everything to go.

I don't agree with Hop much, be he is spot on for this observation. Ton of terrible calls that definitely changed the game. Kentucky didn't play well in the second half, but they played well enough to win if the officiating was consistent and correct.

If we ever learn to shoot foul shots we might win a ballgame. They act like foul shots don't mean anything. They also drive to the basket and throw up too many prayers. The way they shoot they need to attend church more often to have those prayers answered.

  • We had 1 fg in 10:00 in the second half. If I got a lead on us, I would foul every time too if the refs were letting us play. We are so terrible at fts, it is smart to just foul us on every possession that we happen to accidentally get a decent look. It's smart on bamas part. When other teams get us locked down, we literally cannot get a mediocre look, it's like other teams have 7 defenders. And still, during those stretches, when 9 guys are on the shooter, we don't have anyone to get the rebound. This is the 4th time this has happened this year, and once it starts, I know now to just turn the channel, bc they never can get it back. N dame, late Baylor, late a m, and this second half. I don't blame Goodwin down the stretch when this happens in all these games, nobody else can even get inside the three point line, much less get a shot off.

The refs definitely let Bama play rough but Goodwin being stupid is our biggest problem right now. I'm ready for him to get left on the bench and let somebody with a brain in their head play for a while. How much worse could it be with Hood on the floor? At least he will pass the ball, and won't lower his head and go 1 on 5 the whole game. Goodwin is nothing but a disgrace. I will be glad when he leaves cause I am sick of watching him cost us games.

To me, that happens against trained teams when your movement is just horrible. I felt that way often under Tubby and know that exact feeling That there are 10 defenders out there and 20 more guys to just rebound. When one team moves, and you don't unless you're holding the ball, that happens.

The officials did make some bad calls, but if we make foul shots we still win. Also they needed to go Kyle more often. Kyle and Mayes are our best shooters.

The only reason Goodwin gets inside the three point line at that point is because when the defense sees the ball touch his hands they all collapse into the paint cause they know he ain't gonna pass it.

  • The goal tend call was right. It was a goal tend because Noel hit the ball when it started coming down and not because it hit the glass like the announcers were trying to say. The two out of bounds calls were horrible but the first one didn't hurt us because they missed the shot and UK got the rebound.

It would be the same with hood, except he has no way to do anything individually on offense in an offense predicated on slashing to the basket. Goodwin is doing what cal wants in the dribble drive a lot of times, but nobody inside on this team cleans up weak side or attacks the rim for lobs and put backs.. That's the offense, when the help comes to the slasher, just get the ball up on the rim or kick to open shooter. Too many guys stand and watch the slasher when we are stagnant and the other team is playing their best defense and taking the game away from us. Tonight was just a young team getting backed down once they hit some adversity. I thought we really missed Stein tonight. Needed his minutes with poythress being on foul trouble all night. That's where they killed us second half, stein would have given us some more physicality. We are getting some valuable experience from some guys during steins injury, this is not a total loss tonight...

Goodwin's thing is though he has absolutely no intention of passing the ball to an open man even if the help comes to the slasher. Come hell or high water he is gonna throw it toward the rim, and flop on the floor like a dead fish. He is selfish, and that's all there is to it IMO.

  • Maybe, but if you notice, it only appears that way when we lose and are going thru one of our stand around and not do shit stretches and give the game away. At that point, everybody else looks like d2 players, and he just says the hell with it. I definitely think he is out of control often, but I think he gets blamed bc he is the only one that tries to do anything half the time when we are standing around. Plenty of blame in this one, I thought harrow played tired second half. I also hated cals substitution patterns this game. I never felt like he had the right lineup out there, or pulled people at bad times. Everything was just really out of sync second half. But...!!! The defense is improving drastically, just have to eliminate these insane droughts and absence of offense altogether.

  • I've seen calls determine outcomes of games. I've seen refs have awful games. The refs in this game did not make us hit 1 FG over 10 minutes. The refs weren't blowing their whistles in the middle of our FT's. The refs weren't making Poythress play like a B___ again. The refs weren't making Harrow play the worst game he has played in a while. The refs didn't make Goodwin flop to the floor for the 110th - 124th times this year without being touched. The refs didn't let Cal's ego get in the way and him refuse to play zone for the first time in his career when Alabama clearly could not shoot and we clearly could not stop the drive.

Just stop it with all the bullshit. This team is not very good. Period. End of discussion. As much as we all hope they can pull it together, this team is not going anywhere but the NIT short of an SEC tourney title, and I do not see that happening unless someone upsets Florida.

Just take this season with a grain of salt and let it be. Unless the players go against Cal's wishes, or the NBA GM's lose their minds, I will happily take one of these seasons every few years to trade it for a shot at a title like we should have next year! There is no one on this team not named Nerlens Noel that will be a lottery pick. I have not heard of any of these players having such dire financial family needs that tells me they will go to the NBA draft even if told they would be a 2nd round pick. Poythress is too soft. Goodwin is too soft. Harrow is as well, though at least he looks like he should be soft. WCS is the wild card but I don't see him being a 1st round pick. If those 4, or 3 of these players, come back then all I can say is look out next year.

Until then, stop trying to make excuses for this mediocre team.

to be honest, I hope Goodwin leaves cause not only am I sick of his selfishness, but I am fed up with his attitude too. Like the other day when Cal was trying to tell him something as he came off the floor and he gave Cal the "talk to the hand" thing while running his mouth.

    mr289

  • Honestly refs never do a good job so we can't blame it on something that you know is bad. We played pretty good in the first half but forgot how to play in the second half.

    UKlaw82

  • Totally agree Goodwin needs to pull up for a jumper or pass out

  • Dan Dakich was complaining today during the Wisconsin game about how close games have been called and how that has brought down scoring. He's a moron.

It's the complete opposite. Look at the Big Ten his own conference for god's sake. They may have the best teams, but they have the most boring basketball. Same goes for teams like UT (Big Ten player as coach) and Bama.

First and foremost the college game needs to adopt the hand check and guard friendly rules of the NBA. That would make the college game much more enjoyable and exciting.

As for this game leave it alone. We lost on our volition, not because the refs sucked even though they did. The college game referees suck and have for years. What is new? That isn't an excuse. Change the damn rules and make those fools implement them.

IN the first half UK was on a fast break Arch had the ball and he could have lobbbbbed the ball to Noel but no he took the shot got missed it was fouled and he went 1 for 2 from the line. He has no pass in his game.

UK did not try to set iso plays for wilt. He had a 6,3 guard on him most of the time. let him work down low and get him the ball for easy hook shots of 5 ft jump shots. But NO not one time in the second half did they do this and that is cal's fault. PERIOD. wins and losses are on the coach when they are games like this.

    dvillepro1

  • I don't know. There were 3 really bad calls that went against us down the stretch. But it ultimately only made about a 3 point difference.

One of the out of bounds calls they didn't score anyways. And another on the goal tend we got called for a foul and they probably would have hit free throws.

Ofcourse the block call on Poythress was pretty iffy.

All of that and I still kind of feel like we gave it away with bad decisions on offense and poor rebounding late. Missed free throws too. Kyle missing the front end of a 1 and 1 trip that could have given us back the lead was huge.

Goodwin and Harrow killed us tonight. Worst game Harrows played in over a month. I knew Goodwin was going to be a roller coaster ride when we signed him. Hopefully they get it together in time to still get a decent seed.

I'm becoming less optimistic however. But there's still a lot of basketball left.

  • Im am wondering if this team will actually make it to the big dance or will be relegated to the end of season NIT. The refs had nothing to do with UK losing this game although there were a few bad calls. This team has done this on several ocassions in coming out for the 2nd half and not having any energy at all. They played the second half like they played the entire first part of the season up to the semester break. No Intensity, no energy and Goodwin putting his head down and charging the rim like a bull in a china shop. The 1st half was just the opposite of the 2nd with Wiltjer playing like he has for the past 3 games and Noel being a beast on defense. I just dont understand what could be wrong with this team considering the talent. But dont be surprised if UKs name isnt called on selection Sunday.
