Ok, That Should DO it, Who Is Next?

  • I am not trying to be a smart ^%$, but lets face reality. Time has come. Looking for some intelligent replies.

  • I have been a huge supporter or joker. But after this game it is a water in the face kind of moment.
Joker needs to go. He is the man who hired the D coach who has the uk D playing like chumps.
Sorry Joker but you are who you hire. You are a great recruiter and a great person. But your coaching is lacking. You will get another job and I do hope you learn from this hire and get better.

    dvillepro1

  • I was hoping to see things work out or at least end on a better note than this for Joker but you guys are right its over. Mitch need to release a statement that he supports Joker as a head coach and will evaluate him at the end of the season just like every year unless he's ready to bring in Petrino now which I don't think will happen. We need some damage control so the next coach that gets in here can have some good young talent to start out with. We gotta find a head coach that knows how to develop an SEC caliber D. I don't want some F'ing retread either. I want someone that can excite and unite this fanbase and get butts back in the seats at Commonwealth. I want someone that will demand things be done at UK to truly put us on an SEC level. I want it and I want it now. LOL. Some of us have been extremely patient hoping this thing would work but its clearly over and those people that have been patient are gonna start to get loud. I really hope we can lure a guy like Chris Peterson away from Boise. If that doesn't happen then my bottom line is finding a guy that can create an SEC caliber D and has experience SUCCESSFULLY recruiting the south. Whether that be a guy that is already a head coach at a mid major type school or a top notch coordinator at a big time school. Guys like Kirby Smart or Manny Diaz might fit the bill. But I think that should be after we've put out feelers for big name guys and told no even after offering them anything they might want.

  • Mitch should get his guy now.

This guy needs to be a walk-off, grand slam home run. Not a coordinator at a school that has been playing with Ferrari talent handed to him. We need a guy who was a HC, and won at every stop.

    A guy who built something.

    Lock him down, Mitch.

This coach should be a pied piper for elite recruits.

Once locked down with a multiyear deal.... Pull the plug on Joker.

It has been over since the Pitt game. We all saw that there was no genius in this brain trust. Now it's time to move on.

I want a guy who Spurrier knows will kick his ass.

    1). Bill Cowher
    2.). Tony Dungy
    3.). John Gruden
    4.). Bobby Petrino
5.). Bill Parcells (he ain't that old - Bill Snyder)
    6.). Bobby Petrino
    7.). bobby Petrino
    8.). Boise guy
    9.). TCU guy
    10). Bobby Petrino

  • I am biased... But I cannot for the life of me understand how any Cat fans would want Petrino...

He never had any respect for UK as an institution or a fan base. In fact, he frequently referred to BBN as slapd*cks and little blue smurfs.

With all his baggage and his previous disposition to UK, is that someone you still want. I ain't saying the man can't coach.

  • Coach's say whatever to get their team ready.

Really I don't care if they hire Lucifer as long as he can coach in the SEC, recruit in the SEC, and win in the SEC.

All this misguided Petrino hate is really foolish from any fan who says they want the best coach available.

  • Got to be honest. Barnhart will not hire Petrino in my opinion.

We are not going to be able to get one of those guys. No matter how much money you give them they would not want to coach here. We best bet is that mike leach would leave after one year or we find a coordinator that runs a funky offense.

If I offered you two basketball jobs, UK and Auburn. The second paid more money. Which job would you take?

    truecatfan4life

  • I like the idea of TCU's coach...he is good and hard nosed..We can debate on these boards all day,but we never know what is going
on behind the scenes..Mitch has probably made calls already..I would bet coaches like Petersen have been called or their agents have
been called to see if there is interest..All I know is something good needs to happen soon or this program will be blown up..Good point
above, that this has been over since the Pitt game..Agree fully...

Go get Bud Foster...Make the offer..You just never know..

  • If we don't hire a new coach now, then it is another wasted season

  • 1) I don't want Petrino anywhere near UK.

    2) Just throwing a name out there ... Frank Solich of Ohio U.

He has a name people recognize. BCS conference head coaching experience. In his time at Ohio has steadily improved their team to the point that they've been to three straight bowl games and are the best team in the MAC. They're 3-0 this year and getting votes in the AP Top 25. Averaged 9 wins a year the last three seasons at Ohio and some predictions have Ohio going 12-0 this year. Averaged 9.5 wins/year at Nebraska and won the Big Twelve 3 times in 6 years. Fielded several top-ten ranked defenses at Nebraska and actually has had some top-50 nationally-ranked defenses at Ohio.

  • Reality check guys.
Petrino will not be at UK ever.
You can stop naming those big name, elite coaches. Peterson has had better offers. TCU coach is in a better situation so why would he leave?
The only coach is see named in here that might come is the one from Ohio.

If Frank Solich is named head coach of UK be prepared for:
    1. Off field crap similar to BCG.
    2. A WR running some good old trip option.
    3. Three years of steps backward until we do this all again.

Frank was given the keys to big red when it was steam rolling. He was run out of town. I would rather give Randy Sanders a shot then go through another Bill Curry like coach.

    Clever stuff here.

  • Why not Charley Strong???

I mean, he's a defensive minded coach that's very familiar w/ the SEC. He can recruit SEC level talent from all over the south (esp. FLA)...And he's proven he can build it from scratch. (UofL was in worse shape than UK is in right now, talent wise).

Plus, if we were the ones to get him...It helps us & screws the birds. A Win-Win in my book.

I can not see him staying at UofL much longer w/ no real BCS tie-in while stuck in a Conference USA make-over...& I also do not see ARK hiring their 3rd former UofL HC in a row or FLA dumping Muschamp after this yr. So, UK may have a legit shot at gaining his services.

  • I know it's not likely but I make gruden, cower, and dungy tell me no. A great ad would try to sell them on becoming a legacy. Throw money at them and try to sell the future. What they could do and how much they could grow the program. Plus I'd sell dungy on being able to work with and mold young people. Tell him how much he can impact and make a lasting impression on the kids. If that doesn't work I go after petrino with at least 2-3 weeks left in the season. That way he can recruit and start installing his system. Plus we could get in early and maybe not have as much competition.

    jeffries123

  • Not a Petrino fan. Haven't done any research but Gus Malzahn is the first name that comes to my mind.

    stlwildcat

  • This was thoroughly depressing. It's killing me.
I have supported CJP because I an a UK fan and wanted him to be successful. However, as much as some of us didn't want to admit it, I think that we knew what the eventual outcome would be.

I am a UK football fan first. I want to win and win clean.
Someone in the UK Administration (BOD, etc) has got to make this a priority. We need a Mike Pratt voice for football.
Dermotti Dawson, Jeff Van Note, Tim Couch?
    Someone step up, please.

We have to make AN ATTEMPT to get a proven head coach. That will be a monumental task as it certainly appears that there will be several SEC openings (ARK, AU, maybe UT) and other openings at schools with much more tradition and an easier path to success. I don't know what the answer is, I wish I did. I do know that I don't want the typical college HC coach retreads, I don't want coaches with a checkered past or one that has had probation issues.
We need to pony up the money to get into the game as a player, not one sitting on the side afraid to make the play for a proven coach. I agree with others, MAKE THEM SAY NO.

I would go after John Gruden, Chris Peterson, Gary Patterson, and veteran coordinators like Bud Foster among others.
But at least make the effort. My 1st UK game was in 1964 and I'm getting tired of the excuses from coach to coach, same broken record over and over again. Someone has to be able to get the job done here.

    Go Cats!
    cheers

    KickAssCats

  • To summarize the thread: We need
    1) A coach with the experience and name that will attract top talent.
    2) A coach with the football knowledge to win in the SEC
    3) A coach who is willing to undertake this extreme challenge for less than Saban or Miles make..

This tells me that such a coach is one in trouble that has limited his opportunities. I know of only one answer.

Well, 35 years ago I asked a girl out that all my buddies told me was out of my league, I was unrealistic and should shoot for "someone more in my league".
    They all laughed.
I've been married to her 32 years.
Point is if you never ask you can't go on the first date.
    Go Cats!

That's true and UK very well may ask, but in all likelihood, they're not going to be bringing a lot of these girls home at the end of the night, much less marrying them biggrin

  • Lets try a realistic list:

    Tommy Tuberville
The DC at MIchigan State-Pat Narduzzi
    Brent Pease- OC at Florida
    HC of UL Lafayette-Mark Hudspeth
    Mario Cristobal- HC FIU

Why in the world does everyone think Chris Peterson, Bud Foster or for THAT matter Gary Patterson are UNREALISTIC choices? Gruden, Cower, Ok, but these guys are not out of the realm of possibility.

I think Foster is realistic. Maybe Smart from Bama. Really don't think Patterson or Peterson are options. I'm sure they have had better offers. Hell TCU is a better choice than UK. Much larger recruiting base and a weaker conference.
