Ole Miss' rush defense ranked #116

  • Maxwell Smith or Morgan Newton, the gameplan should be pretty simple on Saturday. And the last three running backs that faced Mississippi have been named SEC Offensive player of the week. Ouch.

They will get well this week. Before the season I tried to point out what I thought would be a huge indicator in how bad UK is in the trenches by predicting UK would loose the ypc vs ypca battle by a yard and a half - which is a huge gap - especially against a very weak schedule. It is the most telling stat in football. I got labled a Card for that.

How dare you suggest we can't stop the run blue? We have Cobble and Rumph. They are high level SEC players. You must be a Card fan for suggesting otherwise.

    So where are we?

UK is upside down by 1.1 ypc. A whopping 2.8 in league play. That 1.1 is headed to 1.5 with UM, UGA and VU left on the slate.

  • We missed you last week when we won a game. Good to see you back, though.

I'm sorry I wasn't around. Between the World Series and the big win over the Gamecocks, I was swamped.

Speaking of uneducated, you do realize that we now play a 12 game schedule, right?

2 good teams do not make a schedule. But a bunch of common ones (like the ones that pepper UK's schedule) make a case for a weak one.

Before you pop off, educate yourself and try and be objective.

  • Let's consider some data:

    Pts/game: UK 16.5 Miss 20.9
    Pts/game, allowed: UK 27.4 Miss 30.6
Rushing, Attempts/Yards, both per game: UK 37.3/139.8 Miss 36.4/122.8
Rushing, Allowed, per game: UK 39.9/196.8 Miss 41.4/226.8
Passing, Attempts/Yds per Attempt, per game: UK 28.4/4.4 Miss 25.6/6.3
Passing, Allowed: UK 27.8/7.0 Miss 27.8/7.6

UK Opponents have scored points or attempted a field goal and missed on 36% of all possessions, but Miss Opponents have done so on 50% of all possessions. In contrast, UK has scored or missed a field goal on only 24% of their possessions and Ole Miss has done so on a whopping 28% of their possessions.

These teams are more similar that different. Both are BAD SEC teams. In my opinion, Mississippi is a slightly better offensive team, and a slightly poorer defensive team..

But, to take solace in their poor defensive ranking ignores the fact that UK's defense does not rank much high in the grand scheme of things.

Whoa, easy there big boy. Pop off? Wow. Must have hit a nerve. Anyway UK's schedule is ranked 48 toughest by Saragairight now. Why not as tough as usual it still is not weak by any means of the imagination. That's being objective and not someone being blinded my his dismay for the coaching staff and players.

Haha wow. Hey just to throw some more numbers in there our opponents average ranking defensively against the run is 48 (since you were speaking on defending the run). Not exactly the very weak schedule you are claiming it to be. Is this down from previous years, I don't know. What I do know is that 48 isn't even close to 'Very weak.'. Maybe you should take your own advice and educate yourself and be objective buddy.
