  • I hope it is over, that would mean that the offense has mmoved the ball, controled the clock, and we are probably winning. I am glad Newton has the ability to make some things happen running the ball but I would not call many designed runs for him. He is going to take enough punishment this season without it. It would be different if we had an experienced backup if he goes down.

  • 20 touches could be very possible, but 20 carries is another thing entirely. I would like to see it.

    Clever stuff here.

  • Designed run plays for Newton haven't really been effective. When protection has broken down or when the receivers weren't open, pulling it down and running has worked for Newton.

  • I agree, I really think Joker will run Morgan some but I don't look for him having any more than 10 pre-determined carries. He's our only exp qb. I think Joker is serious to a degree about running Morgan and Morgan has good speed but he isn't agile enough to be that effective against UofL's Deff. We have all been spoiled over the years with all the weapons at the WR position and I would love to be able to throw the ball because it gives the Off much better ods at running the football by only having 6 or 7 guys in the box but at the end of the day I still think Joker and Randy will have a gameplan that looks to create yardage first by looking to set up PA by running Clemons. The next thing to look for will be a lot more screens called and being executed this week. We have not been nearly as effective with screens as in the past, heck we beat GA a few years ago and screened them to death. For us to win this game we are going to have get good O-line play (including our TE's) along with D. Warren getting a little better each game.

Morgan doesn't have game breaker type quickness he does have the ability to make 1 miss and run over db's but he's not going to break any long runs against this Deff or any SEC Deff on qb draws, sweeps or power running plays. He can tuck and run once the play breaks down and do very well though. Anyone that has played or coached against a dual threat qb knows that it takes the best coverages away because 1 to 3 defensive players are effected every snap. Teams playing against qb's similar to Morgan will use a spy (LB actually following his every move) and both DE's will be thinking on every pass rush "don't loose contain"... Joker, Randy and Rick Minter know this. I really think this is more of a scare tactic. A running qb affects the Deff similar to how screens do, they cause the deff to play cautious and a step slower because in the back of their head they know if they make one false move they can get exposed. I look for Randy to call some runs early on to try to get this tactic working so he can get more man to man coverage thus opening up more intermediate passing lanes.

At the end of the day if our Off does play similar to the 2nd half of CM and we have 55 plus OFF plays look for Clemons to get ateast 20 touches (that includes screen plays). He can handle it. That's why we got him. Physically you don't get much more prepared than this kid. If Clemons doesn't get 20 touches and no other RB on the team gets 8 plus carries we are in trouble IMO... I use to coach 7th and 8th grade and no doubt there's a huge difference but if I were Joker or Randy I would look to develope one of the best rushing attacks in school history. We have the best group of Rb's I can remember in Lexington right now. Atleast this year because we are bad need for some difference makers at WR. I really believe D. Collins would have made a big impact... Hopefully his surgery went very well because his injury is often one that can happen again... GO CATS!!!

    On the money.
I think (or maybe I should say hope) the offense finally involves the RBs in the passing game via screens or out in the flats.
Also...GET THE DAMN TES INVOLVED ON THE F'N PASSING GAME...ARGHHHH!

  • May be over, but I'd guess we'll throw 25 and run 25 because about the norm 50 plays will knock us out.
