  • With the recent findings from the investigation, has Jopa become the most despicable figure in sports history...is it possible even more so than Sandusky? Btw, im not talking about wrong or right but public opinion.

    Also, has there ever been a bigger fall from grace?
    From one extreme perception to another?

    Personally, (be warned...extremely cold and heartless comments coming)....i think death was an easy out for the guy. I kinda wish he had lived long enough to have to answer for his actions.

  • Btw, its pretty surprising to me that with everything going on around Penn St. that they currently have the #15 ranked recruiting class. I guess they are giving a hard sell on creating a "new" Penn St.

  • That whole scandal is despicable. Joe pa didn't turn it in because he didn't want bad publicity. Him and all those other pos could. Have saved a number of kids but football was more important. I hope they all rot in hell. They deserve the death penalty for this. Football isn't a right its a privilege and they put it above everything else.

    It has to be the biggest fall from grace ever. The things that went on and allowed to continue are disgusting. Joe Pa is just as bad as Sandusky in my opinion. I would like for him to still be living so he could give his side and face the music and punishments he had coming.

    PSU is a mess and looks like the NCAA is going to punish them to some degree. They also have the whole Clergy Act thing as well. I think the B10 has expressed that they may hand down some punishment too.

    You are right. Death was the easy way out for that low down POS coward. Terrible person and a terrible institution they are running up there.

  • PSU better get their checkbooks ready. Things are going to get hairy for them. I'm not sure that the NCAA has anything in their rules that would allow them to suspend PSU for a year or two from football, but it should happen.

    Good argument on ESPN 980 in DC radio last week for a basis for "death penalty"--the situation seems to meet the definition in the NCAA rules for lack of institutional control as well as failure to monitor, just not in the way we generally think of it (i.e.--recruiting/paying players/etc.).

  • I would go for that. I'm not sure the NCAA has the cajones to pull the trigger though, and it's obvious corrupt ways will prevent that from happening.

  • Darren Rovell now reporting that Nike is taking Joe Paterno’s name off its childcare center on the Nike campus. Probably the first of many such acts.

    Best thing I've seen this morning was a tweet from SI's Mike Rosenberg:

    @Rosenberg_Mike Penn State should keep the Joe Paterno statue. Just move it so he is looking the other way.

  • It's just to hard to let go of the legend after all he'd done for the university and that's why people continued to show him support. Even I was willing to give Joe the benefit of the doubt UNTIL this report clearly shows that when faced with the greatest test of his integrity and character, he failed in a MASSIVE way.

    I still contend that had PSU shown him the door years ago, then a lot of this would have been avoided. It was clear that Joe was a shell of his former self for some time. Would the JoePa circa 1970's and 80's make the same catastrophic errors in judgement in his later years??? In the end it's entirely immaterial because he was clearly in charge, lied about his involvement and will forever be remembered as just another hypocrite who could not practice what he preached.

    That's amazing to me under the circumstances. I know it's still a great school with a lot to offer, but one had to figure there'd be some fallout for at least a couple of years from all the negativity. Kudos to their new staff. They must be doing a remarkable job.

    It is hard to understand from the outside looking in, but I think it could happen just about anywhere. When you build up that kind of love and devotion for something over 40+ years, you'll go to great lengths to defend/protect it. I think it's just human nature.

    With each additional piece of info that comes out, however, it's getting harder for even the most loyal supporters to reconcile the awful mistakes that were made.

    Somewhat similar but different as well. The Bob Knight implosion watch had been going on for a while and even Knights most ardent defenders probably knew his long term bully antics were true but his winning trumped boorish behavior. Paterno had a 50 plus year career w/ZERO hint of scandal or wrongdoing of any kind and most folks, me included, couldn't bring themselves to believe JoePa would EVER overlook or be a part of an inpropriety much less criminal cover up. The facts of the case now show otherwise and there is no way ANYBODY can ever condone, justify or overlook Joe's actions, or inaction more like it, any longer.

  • Louis Freeh created an easy-to-understand roadmap to institutional culpability. PSU will be rightfully drained of billions of dollars.

    Hope they enjoy the recruiting now, I have a feeling the NCAA will not leave this political arena without wielding their symbolic, unnecessarily-harsh and wickedly undeserving punishment. Why not? Pile on.

    The PSU post-presser Benetton Ad BOTs they trotted out there were highly unimpressive as well. That house needs to be fumigated.

    GOD BLESS THOSE VICTIMS. I hope they find some happiness in their eventual windfall.

  • Obviously there is no precedent for this among universities that I know of, the closest thing I can think of is what the Catholic church had in their sexual abuse cases. I have no idea how you put a monetary figure on something terrible like this. If like the above poster is right and there will be settlement of billions how does a state university pay for something like that. How does a state university not have to file bankruptcy to cover those lawsuits? And would the state of Pennsylvania and taxpayers eventually be on the hook for this? I don't know much about the legal issues or what these types of cases settle for. I am just wondering how this will end.

    I know alot of you will not agree with me. But I have worked in the corp world for a long time. He took what he knew (JOPA) and told them evrything it is there job not his to take further action. What they do is above his pay grade. If he had went around the AD and the Pres he would have been fired.

    He is in no way the police of the AD Dept. He is the head coach. He did not see what had happend it was second hand news to him. The person who saw the act or acts is the one who should have went to the police, if the AD did not do anything. Joe did what every coach would do, turn over what you know to the Ad and let them do what they are paid to do. Yes Joe could have done more based on another persons opinon of what he saw. I have no love for joe none at all.
    But I do know how it works from pay grade to pay grade. My father was a full bird col in the US MCorp.

    You go around your superiors and you get the hammer....

    PSU has just raised the most money ever from doners, ever. PSU has a 3 bill with a B in the bank.
    And this will not hurt there recruiting. WHY because all of this happend what 10 yrs plus ago.

    PSU is PSU in football they will be down for a couple of yrs at most. Hell there recruiting class is what 15 right now lol.

    I do not know you but I know this you have neaver worked in a job or have neaver been in the service, where you have people above your pay grade to step around. You do with no proof you are toast.

    He did not know another person told him what he had herd. He did not see the act he herd the act. You cannot go to the police above your bosses based on what you was told. PERIOD.
    If he did and the man was found not guilty then what you made an ass of yourself and you will neaver coach again. PERIOD. Now if Joe had saw the act then hell yes go over everybody to the po po.
    But guess what he did what I would have done knowing that I did not see it happening and a man is not guilty till proven guilty by my eyes and ears.
