Would be great if true. One thing is for sure, not one name of potential coaches that has been mentioned publically would be "higher" than Bobby Petrino.

Sleepy I'll ask again? What college football team has Petrino left in less than 4 years. I'l also give you two names that have hopped from job to job and are considered to be some of the best in the their business. Nick Saban and Larry Brown.

Its really not a question if he will stay more than a few years I just used 2 years as an example because he wont win that quickly. My problem with BP is the history of screwing the people he has worked for in the past and his history of blatant dishonesty. Take Ark. for example, he cheated on his wife in and of itself most people would forgive him but what else related to that act did he do to exacerbate the problem. He lied about so much more than that to the people that trusted him to coach 18 to 22 year olds on the field daily. He has had a pattern of being dishonest to his employers and associates and the fans of the places he has coached at. Would you really want your son to play for this guy? If your answer is yes then by all means support him being hired but being a parent of an ex athlete I would never have permitted him to play for this guy. BP isnt honest and has no integrity.

Hi All, long time lurker feeling compelled to post about the coaching search.

I've noticed several huge news outlets posting stories about how logical it is for Petrino to UK.

I hope with this picking up steam in the national media, that the heat is turned up on our AD, BOT, and Eli to really go all out to get Petrino here.

Links to some of the big outlets:

Why would any person want this yellow belly turd. Why would you want this man coaching your team when he had turned his back on every team he has coached. WHY.

Have you UK fans fell this far behind the ladder to want this turd.

    My god people !!!!!!!!

My would not even talk to him ever. If he called my house lol I would tell him to fuc* off.

He is a crap turd period. He has let every fan base down from the NFL to every school he has coached.

Why would UK want this baggggggaaaaaggggeeeee. Are we now willing to sell our soal's for A new coach.

  • If Bill Clinton and Rick Pitino can get caught cheating & keep their jobs...Why shouldn't UK hire Bobby Petrino (a legit top 5-10 BCS coach) after he's lost his job, was publicly humiliated & personally humbled?

IMO, right now is the PREFECT time to get him...Yeah, he's damaged goods...but DUH, otherwise he'd never be interested in UK!!! And I'd much rather take my chances w/ Bobby, as someone like Fulmer or Cutcliffe or "insert retread". Right now, as far as we know (as fans)...Bobby's as close to a sure thing, home-run hire as UK can get.

(Though personally, I'm still on the Butch Jones bandwagon!)

The problem is that Mitch is mentally unable to separate his personal wishes vs what's best for the UK FB program.

Before the BP's dad broke silence about his interest...It was very unlikely Petrino would even get a look from UK about the job. Now...After all this broke & fans are in an uproar...Mitch is in a VERY sticky situation.

Option A: He can either hire Petrino, knowing he'd have 1 foot out the door...And take the heat for hiring a "slimy" character that's left his last 3 jobs in not-so-nice ways...And hang his job on the line that BP will not screw the pooch....

Option B: He doesn't give Petrino a look & goes another way w/o even talking too him about the job...Allowing BP to do what BP does...potentially at TENN or AUB or even back at UofL (if Chally leaves this yr)...It will come back to bite Mitch in the nuts!!! It will be exponentially worse if Mitch's guy struggles out the gate w/ the transistion to the SEC...The BBN would go balistc & would justifiably be calling for Mitch's head!

So, Don't be surprised when it's option C:...It'll be leaked that UK offered the job & BP turned it down w/o much explanation. Mitch will offer him a deal that no one in their right mind would accept...And then act like he tried to get BP to UK, but no deal could be reached...All as a ruse, an attempt to provide himself cover for not hiring BP & justify going in a different direction from the obvious home run hire!

You know what the worst part is...Either way, UK will be looking for another coach in 3yrs...Just instead of having to replace Petrino, after he's turned UK a 10 game winner & moves on to TX (when Mack Brown retires)..They'll still be be looking for another guy that can turn a 3-9/5-7 UK team into a 10 game winner.

Thats true, so hire Petrino and have a CIW on the staff after he leaves. :(

Put your best players on the field. It's as simple as that. You hire the best available option to get wins, put cheeks in the seats, and get some excitement started at one of the least exciting football programs in the land.

I think BP is our best chance at quick ressurection. I also think there are other coaches that can do the job, but they have their own baggage, like not being proven at an SEC school or as a head coach period. We may or may not hit the jackpot with other options, but BP is a PROVEN winner on the field in the toughest league in the country.

Scheme around BP's shortcomings, if he accepts, awesome. If he doesn't, we tried our best. I think it is a mistake not to dump a pile of cash on his harley, though.

And on a side note I'm sure his Harley could use some repairs. :-)

So the "Ends justify the means" thats what you are saying. So no matter what BP has done its ok so long as he wins. This attitude is so sad and shows the desperation of some KY fans. Well, go ahead and wish, plead, beg or whatever you want to do to get BP because UK may win some games with this guy but UK football will have lost its soul. I dont understand our society today that when a guy can do the things he has done to so many people regardless of the amount of hurt or embarassment that those actions have brought to the people that trusted him people are willing to overlook all of that so we can win some games. I insist we can have a good coach and win but it may take a little while to find that coach but its worth the wait.

Speaking in terms of coaching ability only, how many attainable coaches would be in that group? I'm guessing not many, if any.

If setting his site's higher is Rex Ryan, a guy who's struggling in the NFL, and never been a succesful HC in college, I seriously question his judgement. I'm not even saying that Ryan would be a bad choice, but he is unproven. Petrino is not.

  • I can say that at least one coach with a massive name and success rate had been contacted. No clue if there is mutual interest.

I question if he's really as hot as he seems. His record and coaching ability are exceptional, but the other schools mentioned that might have interest have a lot more to lose than does UK.

The very worst he could do here would be bring negative attention to our program by thinking with the wrong head again. He can't make us lose games any worse than we already have.

At Auburn, they just dealt with a cesspool of media during/after Cam Newton, do they really want to buy the risk? If GC is even let go, I'd rather take Dan Mullen if I were them, and I think that's what will happen there.

Tennessee, Dooley is most likely gone. Gruden is a fantasy. They just got rid of Kiffen (wonder if he deflated game balls there too), who ran a circus there. I also don't think they'll jump on the Petrino bandwagon, for the same reasons as Auburn.

    Arkansas... heh, no.

I don't think the market is as big for Petrino as it seems. Great positions coming up, but I think as far as equations go, Kentucky makes the most sense. We have nothing, absolutely nothing, to lose with his hire.

We hired a BB coach who was in the midst of an NCAA investigation, had vacated games in his past, and is constantly slandered by the national media. It was a risk, but we took it because we wanted the absolute best coach available.

Not to say Auburn or UT won't use the same logic we did for their hire, I just can't rationalize that BP is their best option at this point.

Petrino is a helluva coach. His preparation is legendary. Game plans will be done months in advance. I can tell you that as a UofL fan, it was great to watch his intensity in the sidelines. His talent wasn't always the best but he coached them up. Your AD has to bring him in for an interview. If Strong were to leave UofL, I'd hope Jurich would do the same.

Bill Cower? I've heard behind the scenes he was advising, but not that he was interested as a candidate. Would fit the bill though.

  • I'm sorry guys. At this point it does the program no good to name names. If something changes or once things are finished (takes job or says no thanks) I'll be happy to share. Fisher knows who I'm talking about and has heard the same info I have. Which is "uk has reached out to a major ( big name) but we have no idea if there is interest".

Besides the name, you guys know as much as we do at this point. Suffice to say they Barnhart is not leaking a thing nor should he.
