Petrino is the next coach at

I don't believe that this could have possibly been done for two weeks, and I'm still not convinced any administrator would take the risks associated with a Petrino hire. If you're right, kudos on breaking a story literally no-one has had any info on. If you're wrong, you deserve a ban for inflammatory posting.

    LOL. OK.

And many other people have spoken about the risks involved with hiring Petrino too.

What are these risks that come from hiring Petrino? That he might take us to a BCS bowl and then leave for a new job. Where the hell do we sign?

I could care less about the motorcycle/girlfriend thing at Arkansas. They were fools to fire him for that. Look at the mess Rick Pitino had in his personal life, and Louisville stayed the course with him. The result is a #2 ranked team following another Final 4 season under him. Arkansas could have competed for a national championship this year if they kept Petrino. I say, "Their loss, hopefully our gain".

I sure hope footballcat65 is right about his prediction. I'll believe it when I see it, though. Nothing against him, I've just seen so many internet predictions go down in flames that combined they could probably cook a 100,000 pound cow. I won't hold my breathe waiting, but if Petrino is announced as our coach I'll probably be able to be heard celebrating in all corners of Kentucky.

Not doubting you personally, but I have to ask why it hasn't been announced yet since Petrino isn't at another job right now. Why the delay, when we need the next coach on the recruiting trail asap?

I can see waiting until after the UT game, but if it is true we should hear something Monday.

I've been over this too many times to do it again. But since you conveniently mentioned Arkansas, I'll just respond with a question:

With all of the on field success that Petrino saw at Arkansas, do you honestly believe that he was fired impulsively? He was fired because the University of Arkansas literally had no other option.

Petrino is not unhireable, but there are significant legal risks attached to his hiring at any university. I'll be extremely surprised if any major state university (including UK) hires Petrino. He's a good coach and has had success at two prior stops. Is that enough to overcome the risk? I guess we'll know before January.

  • I would think we will hear something after the game Saturday, if we do in fact have a coach signed. The best day to announce it would be this Saturday, when everyone around the country is already watching college football. This would allow us to get some free advertising on all of the pre and post game shows.

Then they could do the official press conference and introduction Monday.

Enough! You tell the biggest lies of anyone I've ever seen. There are no legal problems against Petrino that could effect UK. Please quit!

Again, I don't see much risk. It's not like he's going to make the mistake of hiring his girlfriend again. I'd bet that he never felt comfortable with the situation he put himself in with her to begin with. Love can make a person do stupid things. When I talk about risk of hiring a coach, I'm concerned with NCAA probation and things of that sort.

By the way, I think he was ultimately fired at Arkansas because they just didn't think they needed him to win. Then they found out the hard way just how wrong they were. I would argue that Pitino was in a worse situation at Louisville, but they weren't forced to fire him because of it. It was certainly more embarrassing to the University. I mean, legal statements about a sexual encounter with explicit and graphic details, a blackmail of the head coach by another Athletic Department employee, and an FBI investigation and show trial. Good lord! Petrino's relationship with his girlfriend was part of his private life, in my opinion and as far as I'm concerned. Did he get her hired in the Arkansas offices, yes, but I've seen and heard about that happening many times before, even in the corporate world. I think Arkansas' AD only fired him because he didn't want to take any heat himself. He was spineless and he panicked. All he had to do was stonewall the media and let Petrino take all of the heat himself. If he did that they probably wouldn't be looking for a coach right now, and possibly could be in the hunt for a national championship. I've never seen a better example of just how good a head coach must be than how disoriented Arkansas has been without Petrino. I think that example, more than any other, has shown just how good he is at leading a football team. I'd love to see what he can do with the Kentucky program.

You really need to work on your reading comprehension.
He did not say there are legal problems against Petrino that could affect UK and he did not imply there are.
He is stating that Petrino is a proven liability waiting to happen.

Apparently not. "but there are significant legal risks attached to his hiring at any university". Now who needs to learn how to read. Note the aforementioned word ATTACHED. How many lawyers work for you?

Legal risks attached is not the same thing as saying there are legal problems against him.

A legal problem against him would be a current suit. That is unknown.

A legal risk attached would be a risk of him acting inappropriately in a manner with legal ramifications based upon past indiscretions. That is a fact.

    Reading comprehension.

  • There is no way this is true. I'm sure we can dig up the archives on the numerous times Footballcat65's sources have been hilariously wrong. I can remember a few being out of left field that he told with absolute certainty. Can't remember the specifics but he clearly shit his pants on this one.

just think of the publicity, good or bad Kentucky football would get this weekend if this descion was made public. This is what we need is people talking about Kentucky Football. We need excitement of some kind around our program. Initially, the hiring will be nothing but a positive vibe around our team. I guarantee he will say and do everything Godlike at first. He will walk a fine line to be accepted. We need the best coach available. Petrino is it. He needs us as well.

Dude - you clearly don't understand how the law works.

Lets say UK hires Petrino. Lets say he hires a "staffer" outside the rules of state hiring requirements...like he did at Arky. Let's say someone sues UK for not properly posting the job.....

UK's potential penalty in theory could be worse since they were put on notice of Petrino's past discretions, yet still hired him.

Lets be clear...this scenario is highly unlikely. But it does present a theoretical "legal risk" to UK.

Well this scenario is highly unlikely too, but theoretically I could be UK's next head football coach.

What you stated is slightly different than what I stated with that difference being important.
So, does that make footballcat65 incorrect for saying there are no legal risks attached to Petrino?
What about his statement that JDHLaw is a liar for stating there are risks attached?

I'm beginning to think the op has serious issues and just wants attention considering the constant flaming and trolling on certain topics.

Yeah, FBCat65 is a huge agenda poster who has been wishing, begging, and pleading for Petrino in ever thread the past month. He hasn't been right on a single thing he has ever said on these forums.

Now, it appears he's started a big forum rumor...best we can hope for is nobody gets their hopes up and he stops posting.

  • I hope the guy is right, but there is a poster OTS with well known connections who says Petrino isn't happening right now, or ever.

Yea I've said this a hundred times Bobby Petrino isn't the man for this job. He just isn't we need a coach that can get the most out of the players we got and BP just isn't the man. If Mitch has struck out he needs to throw another million or mill and a half and try some of them again. I just think if he would throw 3.5 mill. or 4mill at Peterson he should be able to lure him away. And I've been to Boise been by the football field and it is very nice there but its not in the SEC. Can't believe Peterson doesn't want to move forward in his coaching career. Hopefully Mitch will wrap this search up and name a new coach soon because we need whoever the coach will be to come in and maybe boost our recruiting class.

Peterson is in heaven. He is getting great money has no pressure ever and why would he leave that to take a huge chance at UK. There are much bigger and better schools after him each yr.

BigBlueDog12, I completely agree with you and frankly I"GIVE UP" on tring to get across the point I have tried to make about the hiring of BP.Some dont care about what he has done and what he probably will do to KY and some keep bringing up the motorcycle incident, which really doesnt play that much into what Ive said and proven. Some only care about winning and winning is important but at what cost. Another person said "wHAT COST", Ive stated the facts in the thread I started all documented none manufactured like Ive been accused of. So the heck with. I hope those who want BP dont get him but if a bad miracle happens and Mitch losses his mind and hires BP I hope you get exactly what his previous employers got and Im not talking about football game wins. BigBlueDog12 goodluck and fight the fight, because Im through.

  • There is no truth to his post. My daughter works for the UK compliance office and she just left my house for thanks giving. BP is not and has not been contacted by UK not ever.

He will not be at UK unless his new team in the next few yrs plays UK at UK.

He is to much of a risk even for UK. Mitch is not going to put his rep on the line for that idiot.

    Move on people...
And my source is for real.

  • If Peterson was a chase the money or chase the conference kind of guy he would have left the year after he had his first big winning season. He's not that kind of guy and appears to be completely comfortable where he is. He's the Brad Stevens of College Football.
