Petrino to SEC not happening

  • According to ESPN blogger Chris Low, BP won't be coming back to the SEC.

  • Apparently this Steve Spurrier guy at South Carolina is "hot". Maybe we should try to hire him?

  • Paul Finebaum of the Auburn Radio network staes that BP is in consideration for the Auburn job along with 2 other coaches. He seems to be in the position to at least know who people in the Auburn AD office are considering. But like everything else this could be just conjecture not an absolute.

  • Finebaum LOVES to act like he knows what he is talking about but like a lot of members of the media he's just guessing.

  • Finebaum isn't a journalist. He's the Howard Stern of sports journalism. All he he does is stir up trouble to grab ratings and headlines. Anybody remember that Danny Sheridan thing in the summer about Cam Newton's "bagman"?

That's not to say he doesn't have sources but Auburn is going to be getting a proctology exam from the NCAA. I don't think people quite understand what Petrino did and what the opinion of him is. Nobody wants him in the SEC. He's done and he's not coming to Kentucky.

He's too old. We need someone that is young.

For those who continue to be astonished that Petrino isn't getting the looks, you need to go back and hear the story of Mike Price.

Price was fired at Alabama, before he ever coached a game, for going to a strip club in another state. Now he probably banged a stripper, too, but I don't know if that was ever proven. Still, you've got the most storied football program in the south that was struggling to get back on track who put a gun to their season and fired their coach during spring practice.

In the SEC, 10 of 14 teams are the flagship universities in conservative southern states. Their constituency goes a lot further than just the rabid sports fan---they include four and five generations of fans. They have daddys taking their kids to games. There is an undeniable moral component of the sports teams. These are not the type of places where someone with such recent morality issues can assume such an important place in the hearts of the entire state.

Having said all that, I still think Petrino ends up at Auburn. They'd sell their soul to Lucifer to be able to beat Alabama.
