Petrino to WKU

Great hire by WKU. They hired the best coach they could get for the program not necessarily the best coach for the AD. UK just went to being the third most interesting program in the state again.

For that odd little subset of fans who obsess over Petrino, wherever he lands will be the most interesting program.

Longer term, the ceiling is pretty low in the Sun Belt. Maybe he behaves and does well enough to get back to the major leagues or maybe he doesn't. An article yesterday, I think in SI, compared him to a couple of similar guys--Mike Price and George O'Leary. After they squandered their shot at the big time, they did ok (or are still doing ok) in the non-BCS leagues, probably drawing a decent enough paycheck, but nobody with serious programs ever decided to give them another shot. This seems a much more likely scenario for Petrino than his ever getting back to the SEC.

  • What the hell... I wish both WKU and Petrino lots of luck. (except when they play us of course)

Yes it did, for the sole reason that WKU will continue to beat the Cayuts in football. The Pitino/Petrino mafia will forever hover over the city of Lexington.

Hey acc, did you finally get that trailer door unstuck? Now people won't have to throw you food through the broken window no more. Remember stupidity=ul fans.

We would typically pay a team like Western a pretty penny to come play us. If we paid the buy-out, then what incentive would they have to play us? We'd have to pay somebody else several hundred thousand to come to CWS.

I would assume the game in Nashville last time wasn't as well-attended as hoped, but with renewed interest on both sides, it has the potential for everybody to do well.

Yeah but this game is not played during the week(Thursday) as the last one was, this game is on Saturday where several thousand more UK fans will attend compared to last year's attendence.

It may all blow up but it was genius by Western. Watch them hire several of our former staff and take off. I still like Stoops a lot but has any other BCS program hired a coordinator as HC this year? There are usually several but this year it has been musical chairs for head coaches.

Say what you want but the facts show that he wasn't going to be hired by a major D-1 school. WKY has nothing to lose, they lost the guy that they hoped would take them to the next level, and Petrino was there hanging in the balance. Even if he is screws up again who is going to care out in the public's eye.
