Petrino's Bombinos

  • Looks like the Big Blue Nation is catching the fever. Do you guys think Mitch will feel pressured to go after him, or will he ignore it and do his own thing. My opinion is that if Petrino is the #1 target, he needs to go hard after him before the season ends. If he waits until the season is over, I think our chances of landing him diminish greatly as other jobs open up.

If Bobby Petrino is our #1 target, at the moment a bowl appearance becomes impossible (7 losses) we need to go "all in". We need to have a package prepared that is so tempting that once BP sees it he will have to sit down to keep from falling over. Then we need to have the brass while he is still so shocked to close the deal during the season before other job openings occur.

This will be just another in the long line of visionary, daring and bold moves that Mitch has made while AD at UK...

  • i get what you guys are saying but having him come here feels like we would be making a deal with devil/selling our soul kind of thing.

    maybe its just me.

Not just you. There is a huge downside to Petrino. The bolder move here is to say no and not give in to what short-sighted fans want.

Do any of you think that if he came here, he'd be here to stay?

Were any programs left in better shape than when he found them?

  • Are there any chance we go for Kirby Smart?

  • I think we would have a better chance of keeping Petrino longer than we do Smart. Due to Smart's youth, if he succeeds here, he will be very coveted. We will simply be his caretaker until his Alma Mater Georgia, or Alabama come calling.

He left UL with all kinds of talent and a top ten team! Same with Arkansas! Not his fault the coaches that followed him couldn't coach worth a damn.

Some on here act like they are pure as snow but I bet they're not. I know I've made plenty of mistakes in my life that I'm not proud of. Why people are so quick to judge is beyond me?

  • Atleast we care enough to still be talking about the football program. Most people have already checked out and are looking forward to basketball. If you don't like the thread, don't click on it.

Thank YOU. Petrino is Overated..he leaves programs in messes..has no loyalty to anyone other than himself..just ask Louisville, Arkansas, and his WIFE. I dont want Bobby Petrino anywhere near our program for a number of reasons.1st..hes a headcase..and he will bolt for the 1st team that will pay him more money. UK is set up for great 2013/2014 seasons..we are playing dozens of freshmen and dozens more sophomores..unless someone like Jon Gruden would agree to come..I say stay the course. Brooks started worse than Joker..and JOker is a Kentucky born bred guy..this is his dream job..not a steppingstone. I say let Joker have 5 years..this being #3...and by then..if no improvement..then part ways.
My reasons to keep Joker..based on performance..?
1: He is the only Uk coach to ever defeat Steve Frickin Spurrier!
2: He ended the Tennessee debacle..without a QB.
3: His recruiting..never before has Uk churned out so many NFL players in consecutive years..and nearly all those kids were lightly recruited...Woodyard, Kelley, Jarmon, Locke, Burton, Johnson, Trevathan, Lindley, ect ect. Faced with a less than enviable in-state pool of D1 talent..Uk needs a great evaluater of talent moreso than a top notch recruiter.
4: We beat Georgia between the hedges.
5: Joker cares about this program..he wants to see it succeed. He also runs a clean program..unlike Petrino..
6: Joker is a great offensive mind..other than last year..faced with no QB and the loss of every playmaker we had...Joker has made Uk fun to watch. We were the 13th ranked passing offense in the nation untill last week..when our QB was out.
7: Joker..even faced with the possibility of losing his job..makes the right call..by NOT wasting Towles redshirt. It would have been easy to say..heck..Im probably gone..why not play the kid? Instead..JOker makes the best call for the UK program..unlike Bill Curry..who wasted a full year of Tim Couch's eligability in the exact same position vs the same team. Tim Couch would more than likely own every SEC passing record there is had he got to play an extra season instead of 1 game that year. Throw in an extra 4,000 yards and 35tds and add it up.

I guess no one is paying attention to our new president's ideas for football improvements, if hiring is the same, he will not care about your fever.

  • I would much rather have Smart than Petrino..or even Bud Foster. And as for keeping them..you think IF we did hire Bobby "Old Faithful"Petrino that he wouldnt bolt for the 1st gig that pays more cash?? If you say no...you may wanna have your head checked. Petrino is about as unfaithful and unloyal a person as you can get..even to his wife..why would you want this scumbag near our program??? Im SICK of even hearing his name!

If you wanna talk new coaches..lets at least talk about honest..clean guys that would help our program..not use it as a jumping pad ..or a playground for unloyalty.

You guys really want BPetrino here? Seriously? Kirby Smart, Bud Fster, ..or..dunt dunt taa...Jon Gruden..did he really put an emphasis on Randall Cobb..from Kentucky..on that Monday Night game or was that just me? Also emphasized UK when talking about Wes Woodyard, and Stevie Johnson..and on that halftime spoke of Cobb as being from Ky..like Stevie Johnson..they did it in the SEC. Mabye he could be lured for 5mil a year..and he would be worth every single penny..turned a lame Tampa into the hardest hitting, explosive defense..offense that moves the chains and eats clock team in the NFL. Man..this would be huge. INstant 5 and 4 star recruits saying "Im going to Kentucky." Nasty attacking defense..Mobile and agressive O-line that blocks on the 2nd and 3rd levels..backs that churn up 6 yards a touch..then hits big runs 3 or 4 times. (Mobley,Clemons, Taylor, K.Thomas in his offese? And DJ Warren would become a star.)

And I for one would trade a taste of that BCS pie even if it left us in shambles in a few years...it can't really get any worse than it is right now!

He left neither of those teams in shambles. The coaches that took them over were god awful and ran them into the ground. Know why? Cause coaching matters.

  • Joker got fired?

  • I think people's problem, mine included, with Petrino is that he has had chance, after chance, after chance...and he is still just a douche.

    - Let criminals run U of L, and the program falls apart the second he leaves
    - Was about to leave U of L in the middle of the night for Auburn
    - Left ATL in the middle of the season
    - Didn't have the nuts to look his team in the face and tell him he was leaving
    - Cheats on his wife
    - Mis-appropriates department funds by hiring his mistress

    - Who the heck knows what else.....

If it was one or two of the things above I'd be with you guys, but he is a repeat offender. Three strikes and you're out in my book. Besides, I honestly don't think he'd look twice at UK until AFTER he was turned down at every other SEC opening and maybe some other schools too. We wouldn't be able to hire him until January at best. We can't wait until January.
