Phillips managing expectations

SIMPSONVILLE—UK coach Joker Phillips is using his preseason media opportunities to taper expectations after learning lessons from last year's missteps.

  • Smart move by Joker in light of what came to pass(or failed to, as it were), especially with regard to the offense. Lessons learned the hard way are sometimes the way to true success. Let's hope this turns out to be the case for this edition of Kentucky football.

  • Last year was a major letdown but this year we will surprise everyone and do very well by UK standards. The team is going to rally around Joker and the coaches and get us to a bowl game again. Plus they will continue the streak against TN and make it 2-0!

  • Nice article. I'm hoping this is an early indication of Joker's positive development as a HC. Last year had to be an incredibly humbling experience for him and I sincerely hope the coaches, staff, and players are able to learn from that experience. Tempering expectations is probably best for all involved (fans included) for the sake of the longevity of the program and Joker's tenure.
