I never really expected us to get him, but a full day of news of UK's recruits choosing other schools gets tiring. Oh well, I guess a lot of people who were freaking out over the number of JUCO recruits can rest easy now. We got one and lost out on everyone else (so far).

I didn't care about losing the JUCO WR, because I feel we can get another good one to come in that is in HS.
But it sucks that we lost Burton. I woudn't mind that we lost him to West Virgnina (they were recruiting him the longest) or Flordia (they are the big name) but to Ole Miss. Come on Man.

Ole Miss did lose two of their top 4 OTs. I guess he sees a better chance at playing right away there.

Sometimes being that bad opens up plenty of opportunities for recruits to come in get early PT. Same thing UK sold the year they signed Peters, Johnson, Goode, Paris and Minton in 2006 after a 3-8 season. Plus it's new coaching staff and that creates a spark added to fact Ole Miss has a very nice campus. And some smokin hot southern Belles!

Unfortunately, Goode never made it to campus. At Alabama, he played in 19 games with 59 carries for 272 yards and one touchdown in three seasons. Paris had a heart condition, and Minton could never stay healthy.

I can understand a lot of that. But they did have two back-to-back horrible years and didn't exactly hire a huge name a few weeks ago. I guess I can understand losing Bailey to them. That was more about family. But I thought the Cats may have been able to reel in Burton IF he didn't pick Florida. He wasn't even going to visit Ole Miss about 10 days ago. Amazing for those coaches to get that commitment so fast.

With that philosophy- you'd think high level skill position players on offense would be knocking the doors down to get to UK. Not happening. That rule seems to apply to everywhere except here.

I'm never shocked to see a kid commit to Ole Miss after a visit. I'm shocked when they don't actually. Just go to the Ole Miss campus, stand on any corner and count how many drop dead gorgeous girls walk bye. Have at least one nod and speak with that southern draw and end of said recruitment.

Wow. Our stafff really struggles recruiting against other SEC programs even Vandy and Ole Miss. Very discouraging. I hope they have some surprises up their sleeve come February.

Well, frankly, that will continue until/unless Joker does something next season to quiet the negativity surrounding his future at UK. So long as folks like ESPN are saying he is #2 of all coaches in the country who are on the hot seat going into next year, and so long as the entire fanbase is essentially saying this is his last shot, then yeah....UK is going to continue to struggle to sign new stud recruits and to attract top notch assistant coaches. IF (and that's one HUGE "if") he is able to turn things around this next year, hopefully things will change. But if not, then you can expect to continue to see players more attracted to places like Vandy (who did not have a great year, but has one of the hottest young names in coaching and is attracting great players nearly every week) and Ole Miss (who had a bad year, but now has excitement around the program with another one of the hottest young names in coaching who also happens to be a dynamite recruiter). That's simply the reality of where UK stands right now in the SEC.

Regarding the perception of Joker on the hot seat- Aaron Cordero is now reporting that he spoke with someone at UK who told him that Joker had Steve Brown's replacement lined up, but that person has now backed out. He also said that Joker has been reaching out to a lot of other assistant coaching candidates and receiving very little interest in the job.
When momentum turns on you with this much force, it's nearly impossible to rebound from it. It can be done, but the task ahead of this staff is beyond immense.

I agree. Joker needs to go big next year. Something like to 8-4 and a big bowl game to change things. It doubt it will happen, but we can hope. There are too many hotshot coaches in this league to let this thing go much further. Let's hope Joker can get it done.
