Pitino is a douche

  • I think I'm still in a crappy mood becasue of the game last night, but this morning I heard part of an interview with Pitino and cringed. I just hate that guy. He went from all time favorite to worst by going to the Cardinals. Anywhere else would have been fine.
    I think when Rupp gets renovated there should be a statue of all the championship coaches outside of UK except Pitino. There should be a tombstone that says Trader Rick with his birthday and the day he signed with the cards as the DOD.

    He still gave us a championship, and NT runner up. He was main reason for one of the greatest run of all NCAA.

  • Its sad that people can't get over what Pitino did for UK. Get a life. Put in his situation, everyone would have done the same thing. Take off the homer glasses and get over it already.

  • At this point, he's more Louisville's than he's ever been ours. His success was with us, but he's been there longer. I just let it go and be glad we have who we have.

    My only problem, really, is how much pull Rick has with everything that happens with UK due to his ties with the money people. That needs to stop. He put Tubby in here after he left and tried to get Ford in here instead of Cal. I think he wants to see UK do well....but not as well as him. That's just poisonous for us, and the money people don't see it for whatever reason.

    No major problems with him. He made some horrible decisions personally, and he deserves our ribbing when he comes into our house being part of the rival program, but watch the Keightley Memorial, and you'll see he still cares about Kentucky.

  • All in all, things have worked out very well. Pitino came to UK and did a job that nobody could of done better at the time. He left to pursue the NBA again and passed the torch to Tubby. I don't think we win the NC in 98 with Pitino on the bench (can Rick win a NC without 10 future NBA players?), Tubby did a marvelous job coaching that team. Tubby's tenure ran its course - a Bogan's sprained ankle away from a potential 2nd NC. We endured the Clyde debacle, but that set the table for Cal's arrival. Sit tight, the cavalry arrives next season. I'm grateful for Rick's service to the program, and don't hold any animosity for him taking the UL job. For those that do, rest easy - UK has two NC since his departure and UL has zero since 86.

    Excellent post. Rick had the best job in basketball and let his ego persuade him to leave. Things didn't work out in Boston and he took the best job available at the time.

  • I don't have a problem with Rick taking the uofl job. I just think he's a self absorbed scum bag who is a pathological liar that cares about nobody but himself.

  • Pitino is a Card bottom line. You can't deny what he did for this program but in the end he is a Tard. Which just about erases him from my memory. So the '96 team basically played without a coach or a coach I call Pick Ritino. However the coach that didn't put a player on the player taking the ball out of bounds against Duke in '92. Well that was Rick Pitino. lol.

    Barnhart may not, but donors play a big part to the point that Rick's recommendation almost got this job. Mitch only cares about what Mitch wants, so I'll agree with you there. I don't think he cares about what Rick wants, either... but he got pushed out of the way to bring Cal in.

    Everything you just posted is categorically false. Travis ford was never considered and Mitch Barnhart did not Have to be sold on cal. As a matter of fact, mike Pratt and Mitch Barnhart both convinced lee Todd that cal was the guy.

    Mike Pratt told myself and several other fans exactly what happened in the search. Boosters had no roll in the search. Barnhart, Pratt and Todd interviewed cal in a hotel room in Chicago. Calipari is the only coach who interviewed. After the interview lee Todd signed off on the hire.

  • Look, imo we need to just drop it. He did amazing things here and gave years to this program and rebuilt it totally. We are forever in his debt for that. His more recent antics and the like are his alone. I just want to do 3 things.

    1. Put this season behind us, because this horse is just flat lame and they really do not seem to care. Cal has tried everything.

    2. Know that we are reloading and Cal will have learned a ton from this debacle season, he will not be in this situation again.

    3. I am going to get ready for football. Stoops has been climbing the rebuild mountain at a huge pace and I think the days of Kentucky being strictly a bball school are soon to be a thing of the past. Mark my words, this is going to get fun real damn fast.

    Don't worry BBN, much better days are ahead.

    You stick with your mythical booster stories. I'll stick with the guy who was in the room.

    Remember. "Boosters" were sure that Petrino was going to be the head
    Coach. He never even had a conversation with UK.

    Rick has said leaving Kentucky was a big mistake. If he has the pull some think he should of used it and got Tubbie removed so he could be the Kentucky coach instead of UL.
    He is a very good coach but not a very good man.

    Tubbys system is excellent. He is still a very highly respected x and o guy. Tubby had issues with hiring young, tireless assistants who can recruit at a UK level. If you give him talent he will win big.
    If you you are including his recruiting methods in the " system" then yeah, it is sucky.

  • Tubby is a great tourney coach. Specifically when he is under/slightly under the radar. His best teams actually struggled in tourney play at UK...

  • But one thing about old Rick, he has always publicly pulled for UK including his post game comments last year after we knocked him out of the tournament and didn't pull any punches doing it. So he may be alot of things but he is still for the school where he hung a banner when UL is not playing us.
