BROOKLYN - Kentucky lost a 15-point second half lead, fell behind by two and then held strong down the stretch to score a 72-69 victory over Maryland in a lively opener.

  • Polson is my hero. He no doubt is the MVP of this game and Cal now has to give thought to giving him a lot more minutes. He had 10 pts. no turnovers and hit 2 very important free throws but the play of the game for me is when he knocked the ball from the Terps players' hands and layed it in. Go J. Polson way to go.

  • Polson is our Miller this year. Wiltjer hit a huge three and looked good down the stretch I would have like to have seen him on the d end tho. But all in all they have to learn to block out and rebound the ball!!!! Goodwin had a bad shooting night, but I think he will be the man this year, Lambs shooting and Bledsoe's move this kid is gonna be great!!!!

  • Polson was terrific tonight and I hope it earned him some PT later when Harrow is full strength. I think this team has a LONG way to go, but the raw talent is there. Poythress basically didn't show up & we still pulled it out against a competitive Maryland squad.

  • Had to work, but that's unbelievable work by Polson.

  • I think Polson just earned himself a lot of playing time with his performance tonight. Rock solid.

  • Going up against guys like Brandon Knight, Marquis Teague and Ryan Harrow every day in practice has had to have made Polson exponentially better and more confident that he can play at a high level.

Chris, do you remember when Cameron Mills came in against Fla. several years ago, well thats how much Polson meant to KY tonight.

Yep. Mills put in 31 that game. But UK still lost.

  • Absolutely thrilled that polson shut up some of the naysayers tonight. I said a few days ago that he could be a great contribution to the team especially if something happened to harrow or goodwin, and people wanted to act like I was stupid. Now what do you say?

As I noted after the Blue/White game, Polson looks like he belongs. He certainly played that way last night. And make no mistake...that Maryland crowd was intense. I was at the game and they clearly made it feel like an away game.
