I watched some of the Portland-UNLV game last night and Portland gave UNLV all they could handle but lost by 8. UNLV had 1 of their starters out but Portland has some very good 3 pt shooters but are kind of a small team. They run the pick and roll really well and I hope KY is prepared for that.

I have added a couple of new features to the cumulative scoring system.

If you look at the 3 tables below, you will find the one that I have always presented, a ranking based on the average finish, e.g. 1, 2, 3, ... , max number of game players. That table is sorted on # of games played, and average game finish.

The second table is sorted on number of games as well but instead of using the average finish, it uses the average game score. This may provide a better indication of the consistency of prediction accuracy than the average finish table because the number of players in a game can vary over such a wide range over the course of a season.

The third table is like the second, except all players who have participated in 1/2 or more of the games are treated in the same sort group.

I did start using these variations during the last 1/2 of this football season. I will include all three versions for the game prediction thread web pages for the rest of the basketball season.

Finally, I will have a separate cumulative scoring for SEC and Post season games only.

For PORTLAND, their field goal shooting from inside the arc was a weak 6-26 [23.1%] and from long range, PORTLAND hit 2-5 [40.0%].

The Cats committed 8 turnovers, one for every 4.9 possessions. The Cats forced 10 PORTLAND turnovers, one for every 3.8 possessions.

Analysis:

UK had 0.851ppp on its 74 first chance possessions and 1.100 ppp on its10 second chance possessions. With respect to the offensive rebounding, UK grabbed 26.3% of its misses as offensive rebounds while PORTLAND was able to convert 24.4% of its misses into bonus possessions with offensive rebounds.

UK hit poorly from the free throw line in this game, making 12-22 [54.5%]. PORTLAND made 10-16 [62.5%] for the game. Field goal shooting for UK was 29-59 overall [49.2%] and 4-13 from long range [30.8%].
