Good point :-) I wonder if the defenses are really that bad at all these places that run the Air Raid style or if it's just physically impossible to play good defense when you're trotting out there so often after quick scores. It's the opposite of going three-and-out and wearing out your defense but same affect.
Dykes runs the Leach version of the Air Raid. Just watch those old Texas Tech games and you can see that Leach always ran the ball more than Mumme. He did the same thing at Oklahoma when he was OC there. Neal Brown's version also runs the ball a bit more than Mumme's version.
Pros: He'll come cheap
Cons: Everything else.
There is no doubt that character should and in all likelyhood will be taken into consideration when the new coach is hired, that almost immiedietly takes a couple of options off the table of discussion. I haven't a clue who will end up taking the reigns, but whoever it is must have the right combination of character, football knowledge, passion, and ability to recruit high level talent consistently. Mitch will hire the right guy.
Two Cons. 1. He's not a proven head coach in the SECand would not be considered a home run hire. 2. His defense suxs. You can not win in the SEC with out a defense.
