  • First, I think UK will get off to a good start in football recruiting. I expect a few commitments this weekend. I expect a few new offers to go out. Another guy that will be in attendance is TN CB Jalen Ramsey. Kid is a heck of a talent and will be tough to reel in, but getting those types of guys have not been easy in the past. Ramsey has already blown up and he is still visiting, that says something to me. Again, I expect UK to get off to a good start. I expect Hyde to commit before the end of the month. I expect a surprise commitment before the end of the month.

Recruiting is a game of momentum. If you get off to a quick, good start and show that you are building a solid class then other guys will take notice. It is something that they consider. It is not a big factor, but it can be a factor. Then, UK HAS to get off to a good start this season. Drop any of the "expected wins" and we will be hurting. More gasoline does not need to be added to the "Is Joker staying or going?" fire. Again, handle your business on the field and the rest will work itself out.

As fans, it is our duty to stay behind the team. You may not like Joker, but it is not about Joker. It is about the players and the future of this program. I am a Browns fan. I do not know what it means to be a fairweather fan and as a UK fan, you obviously are not either. There have been rough patches, but you are still here. It is time to come together and do something special.

Now, I am hopping off my soapbox .

To the meat of it all, David Washington is a former UK signee. He plays defensive tackle and is currently at Hinds CC in Mississippi. He is eligible to be recruited this year, but it sounds like he is set. His coach told me this today, "As far as I am concerned, David is going to be a Kentucky Wildcat." So there you have it.

that would be a welcome surprise.

  • I would love to start the class off with confirmation that Washington will re-sign with UK.

Amen and getting Hyde and Washington would go a long way toward giving UK another solid DL class.

And Ross to go with those two, or is that not happening? Sorry been out of the loop for a bit last thing I saw on him was he plans to enroll next year or something to that effect.

As far as Washington goes I hated he had to go Juco he's a absolute beast, Love to see him come back, and I feel that he will.

I believe I have seen it mentioned Ross and the staff are hoping he can enroll in December, but I am not sure of the validity.

  • Washington, Hyde, and Ross in the same class would cover all three of our current DL positions in 3 technique tackle, nose, and SDE. Would be a great start to the class and with a couple of OT prospects, could be the foundation for the future.

I hate that the Vandy coach tweeted several times naming Hunter Biven specifically as the "best tackle prospect" in the nation; I know it's a recruiting violation to namedrop recruits but no stink appears to be made about it. I refuse to tweet prospects or recruits, but Card fans, Michigan fans and ND fans, to name a few, apparently have no qualms and have really been showing Biven and the Trinity kids a lot of love.

Anyone have a link to the NCAA compliance? Fwd those tweets.

Josh, great post buddy! I think this will be a great class so long as we take care of things on the field. I hear a lot of people talk about how much tougher the schedule is this year but I still see the potential for 8 wins. We may not win that many but it won't surprise me if we do.

  • Great report on Washington....hope that indicates his juco coach has principles, and intends the young man to stick with the school who signed him last year and will not be accomodating to any other school trying to get in with him

  • Look up Coach Hand on Twitter - you'll see the tweets there. He doesn't explicitly say "Hunter Bivin." He says he's a HUNTER and he's HUNTING big OL and a bunch of childish BS like that. Bivin was on the Vandy campus when he was making those tweets.

    DACats86

  • Even better, it was retweeted by Hunter, and specifically capitalizes "HUNTER" and "BIG'UNS" in reference to the kid's name. It may be a tempest in a teacup, given the NCAA's recent consideration of allowing coaches to name recruits publically, but I think it's a pretty blatant violation of the rules as they are now.

Frankly, I'm not impressed with Vandy's new staff and their tactics. Franklin demonstrated all season that he is a hothead, his offensive line in particular were involved in numerous dirty plays, the very least of which included pushing ball carriers for extra yards, and his public comments inferring that the de-commitments from Vandy lacked integrity and honor were hypocrisy at its finest, in the face of Vanderbilt's pursuit of players committed to other schools.

As I read other fan boards obsessively, Vandy fans have taken any slight against Franklin by opposing fans as a sign that said fans are "scared" of Vandy under Franklin. Franklin's 6-7 record this past season, despite several close losses, may be impressive for Vanderbilt historically, but doesn't strike fear into my heart. I think Vanderbilt benefited from the apathy the majority of SEC teams have towards that game (much like I believe UL benefited from UK's apathy after 4 straight wins and an upcoming game at home against Florida) and stuck around in many games longer than they had any right to due to a good defense staffed by upperclassmen.

I would be willing to bet that Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida have something in store for Vandy next season, and I imagine that the UK staff and players will circle the date as well. Ultimately, if Vanderbilt accomplishes the same feat this year, after Franklin's outbursts and tactics, I will be very impressed and willing to give him his due.

Until then, these tactics (demonstrated by the latest Twitter name-drop) haven't proved effective.

    JDHLaw11

  • The Vandy at UGA game will be interesting. Todd Grantham thought there was a lot of dirty play by the Vandy OL in that game and he and Franklin almost came to blows after the game.

That said, I think Franklin is a good coach, but he certainly has some questionable tactics.

  • Franklin is a hard nosed recruiter. But check Vandy w/Larry Smith under center vs. Vandy with Jordan Rodgers under center. 2 different teams. QB Play is the difference maker in SEC Play and Vandy was horrid without Rodgers under center, much like we struggled tremendously when Newton played bad.

    dailyminefield

  • If David Washington re-ups with UK, the DLine in 2013 will rival that of Peters, Jenkins, Pryor and Jarmon. The starting group might not be quite equal to that quartet but the depth should be better. Really excited about the potential of the '13 class, also.

  • Nice post Josh and agree on all aspects. I know I've been one of the biggest detractors concerning this staff but with all of the news coming out concerning the board of trustees and our bonding capacity, I do understand they are fighting an uphill battle. Hey, the entire program including our AD has their hands tied and It's now easy to see what they're up against.

I'll support these guys and roll into next season as optimistic as ever; I'll stand behind these guys as long as it looks like we're ready to play every second we're on the field. Hey, if we come out and punch UL in the mouth right from the start, good things could happen.

UK struggled under center all year long. The main difference was who lined up on the other side of the ball.
