Replay officials rob Virginia tech

  • In ot on what appeared to be a td that should be confirmed the replay official reversed a touchdown. They then missed
    A field goal.

It's unbelievable how often the replay officials can reverse a play that was obviously called
    Correctly on the field.

The NCAA needs to go to the nfl system and leave the game in the on field officials hands because replay officials obviously smoke crack. So sad. Virginia tech was robbed.

  • That was a terrible call.

  • Should have been a false start on the game winning kick...right?

    WildcatGG24

  • Should have definitely been a false start on the Michigan kicker... and that was a completely missed reversal. Just pathetic.

    Keep Calm & Stoops On..

  • The ball looked like it touched the ground, BUT I was not sure if there was enough evidence to say it aided the catch.

At any rate, VaTech gets ranked in the Top 10 once again, never really beats much of anyone, and loses to a lower-rated team in a bowl game. Same as it ever was...

He had control and his elbow hit first. The ground didn't assist in the catch, therefore a catch. That was a bad call.

In order for the call to be overturned the evidence has to be indeputesible. At least that is what has always be said.

  • Awful call. VTech fans have a right to be angry.

I think a reasonable person can see both sides of it. That ball point was clearly touching the ground. But, like I said, I'm not sure if it aided the catch. That's a tough rule to enforce. I hate to take something away from a kid who made a great effort.

That's what I thought, David. Sure didn't look to be enough to reverse it.

i'm with you. he made an incredible catch. i'm not a VT fan but they got hosed.

  • I felt their was a big bias toward Michigan in the game. You guys think it"s just the punchline of a joke. After 6 SEC teams as National Champions. The BCS is going to manufacture a Northern School and put them on top. They are losing to many Big Ten fans. Look for Michigan and Michigan State to be preseason top 5 in 2012.

    Maximus62865

  • Maybe VaTech should score more than 1 TD in 5 redzone opportunities.

    dustarm20

  • VaTech, ran as bland and unimaginative of an offense as I have ever seen. Their o-line sucked all night..I was surprised they were in it at the end..Beamer should not have gone for it on 4th down late in the game...Terrible decision..That cost them big time...

The catch at the end should have been a TD..Agree there was not enough to overturn it.

    wildcatdon

  • Very much a Michigan fan here, but they lucked out big time last night. Beamer made an AWFUL decision to run the fake punt, and I thought their last drive was very conservative in regulation, should have tried to score a TD to win it in regulation.

Did anyone else think the 15 yd roughing the kicker call on the punt was BS as well? Can't they call it a 5 yarder instead?

    Tskware

  • I could see both sides of the call but since it was ruled a catch, I thought it should have been upheld. Broke my heart for that guy who caught it. Made a hell of a catch on it.

The ball did touch the ground but I also thought he had it secured. Didn't think the ground aided him in catching it. Thought it should have been upheld. Tough break for VT.

  • The way it's set up now is to leave the ambiguous calls with the on field officials' opinions. I guess that's the way it should be because if it weren't what would the on field officials be good for? biggrin

In all seriousness, I don't see a lot of great things coming from instant replay. It slows the games and doesn't often lead to game changing reversals. They might as well do away with it and get some better officials.

    BlueGhost

  • Tskware,I agree with you on the roughing the kicker call..That was baloney also..I do think the college replay is very good..no reason to change it at all..I dont know enough detail on rulings like last night to get mad at the refs..Like JD said I could see it both ways, but they probably shouldnt have overturned it.

    wildcatdon

  • I was halfway watching the game with no sound and was extremely confused. It was VT 26-20, then they somehow lose 23-20. Looked like a TD to me, and definitely enough like a TD to not overturn it. Crazy.

    BigTyrone

  • Drum the ball might have toutched the ground but IMO it was tucked and under control and I believe the rule states the ground must help to make the catch for it to be ruled an incomplete pass. There IMO was not enough evidence to reverse the call so IMO VT was robbed.

    C1180

  • Question, is the kicker allowed to move before the snap? That stutter step before the final kick for Michigan sure was awkward and was before the snap. If a kicker isn't allowed to kick, it should have been a false start.

I too thought the VT TD catch should have stood. Not enough evidence to overturn it. I thought there was more of a question initially if he landed in bounds but he got his elbow down first inbounds.

What can you do with refs? You can't shoot them or eat them because they taste too gamey like zebras!

I watched it 9-10 additional times today on super slo-mo HD. It's an extremely hard play to judge. The ball not only touches the ground, but appears to shift as he's falling OB on his shoulder.

But, like I said earlier, I don't think there was enough to overturn the call on the field. If they said catch on the field, I would have upheld it. If they said incomplete on the field, I would have upheld that. It was that close.

The ball did touch the ground but it didn't seem to move nor did the grip on the ball have to be adjusted by the receiver. He couldn't avoid the ball touching the ground but he maintained control and possession throughout.
