Ridge Wilson.....

Agreed. Either way, UK looks bad, and Ridge looks even worse.

I disagree....UK would look bad if we tried to sweep it under the rug, ala somebody like UT......

  • Read the article....it appears he was sitting in a car late Sat nt/early Sun morning in an "area known for drug trafficking"......police say he appeared nervous when they approached him. They asked to search his car and he obliged (first mistake on Ridge's part - they had no probable cause to suspect he was breaking the law......last time I checked it's not against the law to be sitting in your car, even if late at night in a neighborhood known for bad things).

They found a bag of Xanax pills and almost 2K in cash on hand. They did not catch him in the "act" of trafficking per se.....this will likely be dropped down to possession with intent to distribute, or dropped down to misdemeanor possession (if possible). Would love to know how many pills they found.......a small number would make a huge difference versus 20-50 pills, for instance.

Either way, as I mentioned above....not a good situation for him, or UK. Pretty bad situation no matter how you slice it.

I can see that too, but it's kind of negative publicity either way, isn't it?

Dupree is the better player/talent but it will hurt for sure depth wise. I don't know how anyone can argue that.

It does hurt depth but anyone and everyone could see that A).Dupree is more talented and B). Wilson was very inconsistent and IMHO will open the door for some of the talented young DE/OLB types we have on Roster.

We have a nice looking group that includes:

    Mike Douglas - 6'5 250
    Demarius Rancifer 6'3 220
    Travaughn Paschal 6'4 250
    Alvin Davis Jr. 6'4 250
    Farrington Huguenin 6'4 238
    Tim Patterson 6'4 228

Yes it hurts from a experience standpoint but we have enough talent at that position to do some damage.

Wilson had 47 tacles in 2011 and missed the final 3 games. He had 2 sacks and 3 tackles for loss. If we can't find that type of production from 6-7 players we're in big trouble.

Wilson finishes his career at UK with 78 tackles, 6 tackles for loss.

  • Well, that certainly stings. I'd say that his Rush End spot has probably a bigger glut of athletes than anywhere else on the team, so from a talent perspective we should be OK. Experience is a different story, but TBH Dupree flat outplayed him this year, so I think we'll be fine at that spot. Big black eye for the program more than anything.

Ridge always struck me as one of those kids who just doesn't "get it." You're getting a free ride to play a game, with the potential (and he certainly had plenty of untapped/unseen physical potential) to make a career out of it at the next level, and you can't stay on the straight-and-narrow? Crazy. headslap

You hate to rush to judgement on these things, but given the charges I think it's pretty safe to say this indefinite suspension is going to be permanent soon.

Edit - If what Chiuk says is true (Not sure where the article he references is) then it might leave the door open a little for a return. Still doesn't look promising though.

Definitely looking forward to seeing who puts up the numbers to replace Ridge. Dupree is a surefire STUD, but Rancifer, Douglas, Huguenin, Patterson and Paschal, could all contribute more combined. Should be fun to watch, as we have some damned good LB's just waiting for the chance.

It is to a point but Joker & UK can't control what players do. Like Hoss said it would look worse if UK tried to sweep it under the rug but we all know Joker won't do that.

Also Ridge was never redshirted although he should have been. This would have been his fourth year in the program.

Wasn't sure about that - thought that he may have sat out that year he first got in trouble. Just a dumb thing all the way around - really wish he was sitting in his apartment studying rather than sitting in a car on a street known for drug activity...

Agreed. I like Joker's philosophy when it comes to a lot of things, like when he suspended Hartline for the bowl game (which sucked, but was still the right thing to do)

  • One thing that we can say about our football coach is that he's a stand up guy. Hopefully that stand up guys can win enough games to keep his job next year if thats what it comes down to.

  • I guess he didn't feel like the NFL was going to be his career opportunity. Painful lesson...

  • Is it embarassing for UK-Yes
Does stuff like this happen at other programs-Yes
Will Joker do what needs to be done-Yes

Cut those that aren't onboard with the way this program will be run and move on. There are plenty of players that will enjoy taking his playing time and UK can use the extra scholarship for the next class.

He will. Joker will be back for another year unless we just flat out look awful. I don't see that being a issue.

The recruiting classes from 08-09 and part of the 2010 class where very weak. IMHO Mitch will give Joker enough time to coach up the talent that's on campus much like he did with Brooks after the 2003-05 classes.

    1. If UK wins 5 or more games? Joker returns.

    2. If UK wins 4 games but looks good and losses close games? Joker returns.

    3. If UK only wins 4 games or less and UK looks awful? Joker is gone.

    I'm going with option #1.

  • As they old saying goes...You can't fix stupid. Not one reason in the world to have pills in a baggie first off and also no reason to have 2K on you. Add in the fact that you are in a bad area and you give the officers reasonable suspicion to investigate why you are there. Then based on Ridge's actions (I don't know what they were) probable cause could have been instituted. Someone said something about this earlier. You also have to take into account the totality of circumstances if you are a cop. Simply stated there is no excuse. Next man up. Hopefully Farrington Douglas and Paschal are ready to roll.

I think all 3 of those guys will be more than ready.

  • If anything I'm just glad an influence like that is away from the rest of the team before it spread. He's already slipped up once and was given a second chance. Get him off and move on, he was a good talent but stuff like this greatly over shadows any talent. I'm happy with our younger prospects at that position and I see Bud being a sooner than later leader, especially now.

Typical sunshine-pumper post, namecalling rather than discussing facts. Distraction, distraction, distraction!

Do you really need me to detail all that has occured thus far this offseason to prove my post was in fact correct and accurate? Do you have any counter information that makes my assertion less accurate? A cornerback dropped out (Trimble), another kicked off (Hall) leaving us among the thinnest and least experienced at that position in all college football, presumed starting QB had his face smashed in (Smith), most prominent and important assistant coach leaves the staff (Tee), and now a starting D linemen arrested for felony drug charges.

You got any sunshine to pump over all that, sparky?

You gotta love the guy who writes a two paragraph post for nothing. Obviously not aware that Minter was mocking other posters for saying "LOD". Calling Minter a sunshine poster is hilarious.

  • If a player is selling drugs it only hurts the team if he is still on it. Can his ass and move on. His past history dictates it.

    Katonic

  • In all matters, especially in these types; it is a MUST to wait and get all the facts. The reason for the "felony" and "drug trafficking" was due to the amount of a prescription controlled substance without an appropriate prescription, plus the amount of drug present, and the amount of cash on hand. Xanax (alprazolam) is a C-IV controlled substance (a benzodiazepine) like Valium (diazepam). If it had been a C-II or C-III controlled substance it would have been much worse. That being said, it is still very bad judgment, whatever the circumstances. I hope the young man gets his life in order before worse happens. Prescription drug abuse and addiction are epidemic and greater than illicit drugs in our country.
