Ridge Wilson.....

  • Thanks for the info, Doc. What effect on the body does Xanax have (i.e., what type of "high" does it cause?)

    DACats86

  • Xanax (alprazolam) is a "downer" or "tranquilizer" prescribed primarily for acute anxiety (legally and therapeutically). In drug abuse and/or addiction it is often combined with other drugs that are also "downers"; Soma (carisoprodol); and opioids like oxycodone or hydrocodone (Lortab, Lorcet, Vicodin).

  • Yay, sounds great. So it basically turns you into a sloth...

    DACats86

  • Personally, I repeat, personally....

I don't care about the details. Kid is a repeat offender and has given the university and program a black eye. I don't think he should be given another opportunity to do the same again.

  • Might explain that tackle I was amazed he missed against the gators

    Katonic

  • A wise man once told me "if you don't want to be (right or wrongly) accused of something then don't put yourself in a position to be accused". Words to live by.

You're sitting parked in Louisville with your headlights off, almost $2K on you and a bag of pills without a script for them in your car......you are ASKING for something bad to happen, cops or even worse. Getting arrested is easily the best "bad outcome" that could happen in that situation.

Even if there is perfectly legit reasons to explain all of that you almost deserve to lose your scholarship just for being stupid enough to put yourself in that situation.

  • Poor decision by Ridge and he should get kicked off the team. Hopefully he will land on his feet once this whole process works itself out but it will be a tough process. As a current college student, and friends at several different universities, I put $100 on 8 out of 10 universities have at least one football player selling marijuana and/or pills.

It doesn't really give you a buzz. It helps people relax who are super high strung, suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. As dkmd said, some people use it along with alcohol or other drugs to sedate them. We're not talking about crack or oxycontin here.

Did it say anywhere how much Xanax he had? "A bag" could be a month's prescription worth or a thousand pills. After reading the scant details this isn't as bad as it sounded when I heard it mentioned on the radio.

Also, was it 600 e Oak or 600 W Oak. I've known people who lived very close to both. 600 W Oak is really close to Central Park. There's a severely shady element, but also a lot of really expensive Victiorian era mansions. 600 E Oak is in a really bad neighborhood. It's right by Shelby Park and I would never want to be there at night.

As a guy 27 years removed from college, some things haven't changed all that much, i.e., I wouldn't want to fade that bet.

  • Based on his past behavior off the field and based on his performance on the field, on balance, I have to say my opinion leans heavily towards "more trouble than he is worth" side of the equation

    W. Oak and 6th - Old Louisville. I lived at 6th and W. Hill 20 years ago and would agree with your characterization....yeah, there's a shady element to be found in and round there, but I've seen much worse. Doesn't really look too good for a 21-22 year old scholarship athlete to be found with $1900+ cash and a bag of pills in the car during the wee hours of the morning regardless of whether it's a 2-star or 5-star neighborhood.

Per UK Wilson has been dismissed from the team.

Respiratory depression waiting to happen. I had a buddy in high school who took a similar cocktail and didn't wake up.

Benzo's are the devil. . . Make you do stupid shit, and are a HUGE OD risk especially when combined with other things, which they usually are. . . I've personally known 3 people who have died from ODing and all of them had benzo's involved in one way or another. . .

I wonder what the facts are - not that it matters. However, in KY, the transfer of just 1 (that's right, just one) pill that is considered a narcotic from one person to another is considered "felony drug traffiicking". There doesn't even need to be an exchange of cash for the pill.....

That said, I have no idea what the specifics of Wilson's case are, and could be much worse then the scenario I mentioned. But I'd like to know all of the facts here before rushing to judgment just yet.

And either way - from a PR perspective it makes him and the University look really bad......

THE EXCHANGE OF A PILL WITHOUT CASH IS NOT TRAFFICKING. MONEY MUST BE INVOLVED. IT IS STILL A FELONY TO POSSES A NARCOTIC WITHOUT A SCRIPT FOR IT. AND ALSO A CLASS (A) MISS FOR SCRIP NOT IN AN ORIG BOTTLE.

  • eh, I'm growing tired of having a team full of choir boys and expecting them to rise to the top of the SEC.

Perhaps we need some bad apples to get us over the hump. Sure seems to work for other programs in the SEC and down I64 even... [shrugs]

He will be missed from an experience and depth standpoint but as others have stated. Dupree is the better player already and it just forces him to step up quicker.
