IF IF IF...If my aunt had nuts, she'd be my uncle!

Every coaching hire has risk attached. Petrino's no different. That's what a clause ridden contract is for. That's why lawyers write contracts that mitigate exposure to potential litigation...You take non-FB staff related hiring out of his realm/pwr structure. You limit his influence in the ATH DEPT. You cover the universities assets...And you lock him into an iron-clad contract, much like ARK did!

I think UK is stupid to not take the chance, when he's right here in LOU and wants the job...Sure, He's a tainted product...& it's 100% due to his own ambitions, his ego & the mid-life crisis event that went public. Everyone knows it...it's been out there forever... Frankly, that's one of the only reasons UK even has a shot at getting a coach of his pedigree..

Furthermore, He's likely to only get 1 more chance at a BCS job... & if he screws it up, he'll end-up in DII / DIII / NAIA or out of ball all together...He knows that!!! So, I'd expect you'd see a humbled man. Same demanding prick on the field but humbled off it... One only asking for a chance to prove himself a changed, better man. One that would be on much better behavior, w/ Momma Petrino / kids / family friends being w/ him. And more thankful than ever for his opportunity to coach SEC FB.

He'd either succeed (and maybe leave) or get canned (for failing)...Pretty much no different than any other potential coaching candidate!

Let me ask you this: If you owned a bank and 2 people came in and applied for a tellers position and 1 person admitted to once taking 1 single grape and eating it from a major dept. store and the other person admitted to having robbed 3 banks, and remember both are technically thieves, so which would you hire? The point is BP has a history of lying and cheating both in his marriage and his professional life, where in the case of, say MacIntyre by all reports he has done things in an honest and professional manner although Im sure he has taken a grape once and didnt pay for it which can you say honestly is the better choice of the 2 for UKs next coach? The risk you were talking about, which of these 2 men poses the greatest risk to the program, players and fans?

  • Sleepy Dog,
I know why you were sleepy after the MacIntyre-Dykes game. I stayed up, too.
I like both their offenses. But, if either come, they can't bring their defensive coordinator.
We need that kind of offense. Mumme Ball was fun to watch even when they lost.
Bring back the Air Raid...and the siren!

One thing concerns me with both. They just didn't look dynamic on the sidelines.
    Not Caliparish at all.

You realize Calipari is like a once in a generation personality right? That's why he is who he is. Those guys don't grow on trees. I'm trying to think of football coaches who even come in the vicinity of Calipari and Spurrier is really the only one. Bobby Bowden in the old days. Who else? I can't really think of a lot of guys who should even be mentioned in that same sentence?

I was sleepy after that game finally ended but you have a point o a certain degree. SJSU is now averaging about 40 pts per game on offense and average giving up about 23 pts per game for the year that ended last night. Although I agree that his defensive scheme may have to be tweeked just a tad with his history of coaching in both the pros and college on the defensive side of the ball I dont have any doubt that will be an easy adjustment to make, and besides a 40 to 23 average on both sides of the ball doesnt seem to be such a bad thing. About him not being Caliparish, who is!!!!

This is why your opinions and views are flawed and uninformed.

Blanton Collier had a staff of some of the best football minds to coach the game, college or pro. Fans didn't like him, said he couldn't recruit, lost games and got fired.

That's just one example. There are many more.

It's false to say he "couldn't recruit". The truth is that the administration (primarily the president) refused to let him recruit OUTSIDE of the state of KY, a policy that was put in place during Bear Bryant's last 2 seasons and continued under Collier. There were actually 5 scholarships reserved for "out of state" boys, but those were thought to be only reserved for sons of former players who now lived out of state because of playing pro ball. Blanton Collier's success would have surpassed that of Bryant without that dumb rule!

  • Pathetic if true. This guy will not have a chance.... even if he is able to start winning 6 - 7 games a year, all fans will still be wondering "what could have been". This was our chance to make a splash, and we barely make a drop in a bucket... smh.

If you want to compare apples to apples, then Petrino would also have been a VP of a successful national bank going in for a job that is overqualified for, and MacIntyre would be a promising young loan officer that recently won the "Salesmen of the Year" award. BP is overqualified but could easily be disqualified because of his history, whereas MacIntyre looks squecky clean and promising without the baggage.

Make no mistake, I hope that we get MacIntyre. I think he is the best out there for UK that is also realistic.

If your a BP fan then I really dont know what to say but he never had a chance here and rightfully so, but a 6-7 win season after a couple of years I think would be quite the accomplishment provided what the new coach will have to go through to get us to that point. I think that can be done and then expectations for a winning SEC record may very well be realized in the 4th or 5th year. I know that may seem like a slow progression in terms of wins but just consider the # of wins over the last few years. Then dare I say when we have gotten to the point where we are actually winning in the SEC then we will be in a position to compete for a divisional title. THEN AFTER THAT WHO KNOWS.

  • That's what a lot of fans need to understand, we are going to be rebuilding. We have to understand the big picture, this could be faster than the Brooks era or it could take the same amount of time. Who knows if they name the coach this week or could be next week.

    Why so serious?

  • MacIntyre would be a solid hire. Defensive background, been in the SEC before (successfully recruited Patrick Willis to Ole Miss), coached in the NFL and under Parcells. Was 2009 FBS Assistant Coach of the Year Award by the American Football Coaches Association. Went to one of the worst programs in all of college football and in three years turned them into a top 25 team by the BCS.

Link is a little bio on Mac.

This link makes me want to hire MacIntyre even more. Teaches life lessons before film sessions, solid Christian leader, great football coach. What's not to like?? biggrin

At some point, someone had to take a chance on Paul "Bear" Bryant... and the rest is history. coffee
